Chapter 14 - Cursed Luck

Chapter 14 - Cursed Luck

Leica soon found himself deeply involved in the conflict with what remained, which made him wonder what happened to the others or whether there were far more of these elite aberrations in this area of the facility. They both exceeded these things by so many levels that the bonus experience allowed both of them to gain massive amounts of experience very quickly.

A rumble from the end of the hallway where his fireball seemed to hit something rewarded him shortly after with confirmation of a handful of kills via the system. Unfortunately, they were also rewarded with another rumble and the steps they followed. Whatever was there in the depths came quickly towards the two of them.

Magna: "Oh. My bloody luck! In one world as in the other. Always the same when the shit hits the fan. "

Without hesitation, he invested in reshaping the tunnel. Fortunately for him, none of the patterns were in the existing walls, otherwise he would have found that the stone of the walls would not have responded to his manipulations. Here, however, without these markings, he could quickly form a couple of makeshift walls between himself and the oncoming horde. It wouldn't buy them very much time, but at least it should be enough for them to deal with the thing right in front of their eyes. Slowly he had to work on dividing his mana a little, although he still had plenty of it, but you could never know.

Forming a gust of wind, he let himself fall back a few meters before hurling it against the thing's upper body. Leica was able to use the resulting gap to let itself fall behind. When he got to his position, he threw a few simple healings on her wounds. The thing scrambled back to its legs with visible anger, bleeding all over its body. With a flash of thought he began to draw the water out of the thing. Around it, his blood began to flow out of him faster and faster. With his heavy steps towards the two of them, the blood in his body continued to lose, until it got to the two of them only a dry shell remained, which immediately disintegrated to dust through a growl from Leica. In front of them the others broke like a steam train through an avalanche towards them. Rocks flew through the air.

With a thought in the direction of the Leica, he made her close her eyes. One of the lumens directly on the wall shines for a single moment as brightly as a magnesium torch. These beings were used to the dark, or at least the twilight. Immediately they grabbed screaming with their clawed hands in the face to cover their eyes, at the same time he formed a massive spear from the blood of the [Corrupted Crocodile Crusader]. He accelerated this as far as he could with his mana and let him impale the confused creatures. Of course, that didn't stop them yet, but they were already badly wounded. He didn't want himself or Leica to get any closer than absolutely necessary. Immediately he formed some of the napalm balls, which were also promptly recognized as a skill by the system.

He quickly confirmed the acceptance of the spell and from that moment on he was happy to be able to use the Greek fire on a completely new scale, whereby he could proceed with a lot more mana. Throwing the new spell at the enemy, he decided to slowly withdraw from this area of the dungeon with Leica step by step. At least he didn't have to be so economical with this spell anymore. His spells landed on the crocodilians again and again, who rewarded him with an angry scream. However, it hardly slowed them down, and their numbers did not seem to decrease despite some falling by. On the contrary, they seemed to be increasing. This area should turn out to be deeper than expected. Leica kept hurling iron spikes at the massive legs with the tip of its tail. It looked like an almost endless stream coming forward from behind. For each one that soon fell they were replaced by two more. This had to come to an end quickly, otherwise he would run out of mana before he got all done.

Arriving in the massive canteen on his retreat, he began to hollow out the ground underneath. The pitfall had some of the napalm balls inside. The ceiling of the floor would just barely support the two of them. He sealed the corridor in front of him, whereupon the two hurried back into the other and sealed it shortly afterwards as well. However, he left a hole in the second wall, which he used to throw dust particles into the canteen with the formation of the earth in a massive mana effort. Only when his mana came close to the limit, which he set as an emergency reserve, did he pause and also seal the hole. From now on they had to wait for the creatures to break through the first wall. You yourself sat at the former intersection. A look from him, which Leica made to understand she should pay attention to him. While this was neither the place of his choice nor the time, he needed mana and to channel it he would meditate. Leica would get him out if they got surprise guests.

Hardly a few minutes and moments later, the dungeon was filled with a massive explosion, which reminded him of the sentence from an internship, why smoking was prohibited in the carpenter's workshop, was "danger of dust explosion"! That was what these beings, as well as the dungeon, had experienced. The gigantic explosion reopened the neck of the bottle in the cavern, which began to pump out the river again and again and formed a lake in the main cavern. The walls around her were riddled with cracks everywhere.

As soon as the magical patterns on the walls were used up, they just lit up briefly and then went out forever! Many of the tunnels deeper in the dungeon collapsed, burying other creatures down there that were originally chased by the aberrations. Some of the still active hunting parties were crushed under the stones, which had escaped most of the actions and only became aware of an irregularity through the active end of the mind magic. It was actually lucky to be in these tunnels at the same time, because everywhere else in the dungeon everything was in active danger of collapse! The many death reports brought the two of them to level 70 and his quest to 99% within a short time. Basically, he didn't try to look, but knew he would have to.

To do this, however, he took a few moments, whereupon he threw most of the points into his intelligence and vitality in order to strengthen them further. It would also help him with his regeneration. But he still kept a few points undistributed in his hindquarters in order to make adjustments if necessary.

He wouldn't miss his magical memory very much, but before he could waste his thoughts on it, noises came from the last tunnel. The last two remaining bodyguards were standing there. Something like cold, bloodthirsty anger was in their mines. They must have noticed the death of their contaminated conspecifics. Almost reluctantly, Magna got back on his feet ready to take out the last remnants of the enemies in this dungeon. He's already regained a small fraction of his mana. The meditation was not very long, but the much higher mana concentration, his equipment and now increased stats made the recovery much easier. Now he was ready to put an end to it all once and for all. He was just fed up with this dungeon. This thing seemed to be holding something in his hand, which shortly thereafter pulled past his cheek, leaving a deep cut on her. The damn thing had thrown a spear at him. Leica immediately felt his injury and threw herself on the two bodyguards, whereupon he threw a little healing on himself and joined her.

The fight was more resource draining than the previous one, especially after realizing the unstable state of the cave system. A short break after the fight should help them to regenerate all of their strength. Getting involved in a fight like the one in the quarters was not one of his concerns. Better to go into a new fight with a full arsenal, at least whenever possible.

However, the last two still didn't yield the last percent. Instead, he initially gave it to the collapsed area to open up the quarters, but went deeper with Leica into the last remaining tunnel, from which the two bodyguards came. To his surprise, the sight didn’t match the other two areas in any way. The patterns became more frequent, the cracks in the walls less frequent, and the whole area looked much more civilized! Everything indicated that the stranger had spent most of the time here. In one room there seemed to be things like games for occupation, even if they were self-made and very rudimentary in their structure. The room was previously devastated by the crocodilians, presumably they served the scientist as pawns? It would at least explain the hatred of this place, he thought. Not wasting another glance, he followed Leica into another room, which appeared to be a kitchen. The warehouse at the other end of the room was still filled with meat that showed no corruption, yet he told her not to touch anything or even eat anything there. Carelessness was one of the few traits that seldom stood out in him. Another room on another side appeared to be something like a storage room. It contained tons of these mana crystals, scales and many other valuable resources. In fact, his own efforts above ground pale against it. How many skins had he laboriously gathered? At times, this was not the only room that was filled with resources.

Whoever this stranger was had had a real penchant for hoarding. At the end of the corridor was a massive iron door that was still ajar. After not being able to find any obvious traps after a few concentrated looks, he decided to open them up completely. In it awaited him something that was reminiscent of a library. The room was clearly the largest so far and appeared to be shaped like a chapel with a vaulted dome on the ceiling. As if shaped in a cross, there was a room directly in front of him through a door, which looked like a work room.

There must have been some very important books on the table because they seemed to be missing. Normally you couldn't see something like that, but the place from which they were lifted was clearly visible. The other room on the left housed the first comfortable bed, or at least its scaffolding. The mattress clearly seemed to be missing here, but a few pressed-in springs indicated that there was a lag there. At least he could understand the stranger here. A mattress that was good had already been hard to find in the modern day. Back in the main room on the shelves outside the room, which took up the whole roundness of the room, one or the other volume seemed to be missing. Apparently the stranger, whatever he was using for storage, preferred knowledge to resources, but it was always still some books on the shelves. While some apparently revolved around mathematics, there were others among them that he could not decipher the scriptures. A couple of whole rows of books on some of the shelves seemed to be missing. What was striking was the lack of some books, which were provided with nameplates below their rows. These included research into dungeon creatures I - X, breeding experiments, experiments X - XVII, the system and its functions IV - XX, the teaching of the smallest known organism I - XV, body fluids I - V, necromancy and its uses II - VIII and some other pertinent works that are clearly related to what is happening in this dungeon.

On the right side was a separate room connected by a short corridor. Some writings were bound in leather that reminded very strongly of human skin. In this room there was also something like a small open wall safe, in which apparently samples were in a liquid. When almost entering the room, something in him writhed in deep disgust for this room.

Following an inner feeling, he created another massive ball of his napalm, which he quickly released into the room itself. The room itself seemed so separated that a spreading fire would be enclosed within it. His next shock came from the unnatural reaction of this room, because on some books suddenly pained faces appeared, which pressed against the covers as if they could escape the flames in this way. Instead of retreating, he continued to heat the flames and finally just locked the room for safety. Exhaling once, he first had to calm down.

Magna: "Damn this room could have been cut straight out of Lovecraft's sick mind."

Whatever was in the corrupted books was lost and probably better that way! No curiosity would ever have made him pick up a single one of them.

The final surprise came in the form of a message from the system.

Magna: “Huh finally. I thought I'd have to play hide and seek down here with all the horrors, but it's comforting that at least everything related to the infection seems to be wiped out, apart from the mad stranger who fled. Now at my promised price that was waiting for me behind door number 3. "
