Chapter 19 - Basebuilding

The sun was about to set. You couldn't really make out it that deep in the forest, because the canopy was almost growing over the river, which seemed to rob even this of the light. Together with Leica, he slowly began to move in the direction of the noise, whereupon they had one or the other minor fight on the way there.

But the creatures on the meeting were clearly no opponents for the shield monkey and should probably be described as smaller predators in the territory of the four-armed shield monkey.

It didn't take much longer for the noise to get louder and louder and more intense, becoming a permanent hiss. After a few more steps, they took the first steps out of the forest for a few days. The sun was about to set completely as a massive rock wall rose before them. Looking to the sides, a few kilometers seemed to stretch, at least she couldn't see the end of it. However, right before their eyes a waterfall fell from a great height into a small lake before their eyes, resulting in the river they had followed for the past few days.

There was actually something heavenly about this place, calm and relaxing. The rush of the waterfall had a calming effect on his mind, which enabled something inside him to switch off.

Magna: “What do you mean, little one? Will we stay here for a while? ”

In the small miniature lake, some fish, as well as other water creatures, gathered. At the edge of the forest he began to gather some wood, whereupon they would light a fire near the waterfall and the lake. The place was ideal for a base because it offered a clear view in the essential directions. Not many dangers could threaten from above. It didn't take long to light a beautiful fire with magic and it wouldn't really be noticed that deep in the forest. At least not very many, because the canopy of the jungle efficiently prevented any view into the distance. The trees themselves taller than sequoias would require a tremendous climb.

There was something to eat that Leica detected, but suspiciously resembled a snake, surprisingly the taste of the meat resembled chicken. If you forgot it was a snake, you could actually enjoy it.

That evening he was still sleeping with Leica in the open air, with a wonderful view of the starry sky above them. In his mind he decided to build his home here. The stone shaping would be enough to create something in the rock face that he would have been happy with.

This world actually had two moons, the effect of the moons on the tides certainly being interesting. He could certainly see something different about it compared to Earth. Perhaps the center of this solar system even had more than a single sun? If the suns were in a constellation, then from a distance he could see them as just one. His thoughts wandered from one possibility to another and also between them.

It didn't take much longer for sleep to overtake him. Ironically, he theoretically didn't need as much sleep as he used to, because perseverance and willpower could compensate for a lot. But they could not reproduce the feeling of a restful sleep, any more than the feeling that one experienced shortly after waking when one was in this physical warmth, but at the same time remained somewhere between dream and reality.

After waking up he still couldn't help scratching his imaginary stubble or skipping the morning scratch on his bum.

Leica was apparently already awake and had chased them a sumptuous breakfast that presented itself as a corpse. As expected, it was meat again. Maybe it wasn't a particularly brilliant idea to leave the nutritional issues to a wolf? A problem for later he whispered to himself and almost regretted not having tried to establish contact with people, because when it came to food, spices and amenities, his race had always been on the top.

As much as he enjoyed sleeping outdoors on a beautiful, soft lawn under an open sky, he was slowly in need of something like a bed or a home again. With some water from the pond that he boiled in a pot from the dungeon kitchen, he washed his face and the other areas of his body. Somehow he was missing soap or all the pretty shower variants. He always liked the lavender scents, like all the other stuff there was for women. There were often all sorts of different smells for showering on his shower shelf. Did he smell like a princess afterwards? Who cared? In the end, he had to smell it the most. Did Rituals have a branch somewhere in this forest? Unlikely. He was happy to have given the cooking utensils a priority alongside the resources from the chambers.

After some routine he could let the meat cook in peace. There was a lack of salt and broth, but the cooked meat should still be more palatable than simply roasting it over and over in the fire.

Magna sat right in front of the wall to look at her. Before he just started sculpting something, he first wanted to think about what he expected from his new home. Should it be simple stairs or a spiral staircase inside? Did he need a balcony? Did he want to make the entrance at ground level or raise it a little higher? Behind or next to the waterfall?

Probably the scratching on the side of his head didn't really help him think. But the rock wall had been like an unpainted canvas to him. Unfortunately, the wall did not have any natural protrusions.

He probably had no other choice, which is why he began to pull as much rock as possible down next to the waterfall in order to create protrusions that reached down to the ground. In addition, he created a rock fall into the depths that stood at an angle to the ledge. He could use this to create a winding path onto the ledge. He had given the wall a slight angle towards the top. In fact, he had moved such crowds that if he wanted to continue, he had to meditate first. It was immensely dangerous when he ran out of mana in the middle of forming and what had been formed collapsed.

After a little more than an hour, he felt ready again. Slowly he walked towards the lintel where he began to create winding flat steps up to the ledge. The stairs were caught next to the steps by a simple stone railing and at the top again by a small arch on square pillars, which turned into a gable at the top. From inside the rock he continued to pull stone outside, forming the walls on the ledge, apart from the outer wall.

He left a small courtyard between the upper arch and the building on the ledge itself, which could later serve various purposes, such as the storage of firewood, which probably remained dry under the angle he had created in the rock. Directly to the right of the stairs, the waterfall pelted down into the miniature lake!

The corners of the house, like the outer wall, were created with stone pillars to let in as much of the natural light as possible. On the wall itself there was something like a stone beam with a slight overhang. He shaped the protrusion steeply down to the ground, because he wanted to make it appear as natural as possible. He drew the next stone from the corner to form a sloping roof that merged with the wall itself.

This open space was a nice start for him. He kept the angle between the sloping roof and the wall as low as possible. After this anteroom was finished, he began to shape the main room connected to it, from which he already took some rocks. The corners were again provided with columns and plinths. The ceiling inside got a slight curve and the middle of the room a large open fireplace whose shaft ran up through the stone to come out somewhere on the wall a little away from the house with a slight incline.

A narrow corridor led from the main room to a planned staircase deeper inside the rock wall, where he was already planning the spiral staircase to connect the various floors. All rooms would have the rock wall as the outer wall, which is why the spiral staircase was still close to the main room. At a distance of just under 3 meters, he already created the entrance to the second floor, which the rooms would next follow.

But first it was down. So he let the spiral staircase go a little deeper where the storage rooms were to be built later.

Connected to the main room, a kitchen was created that had its own fireplace and the associated shaft to the other, which would be connected to the ceiling between the first and second floors. There the smoke should flow in a slight incline through a small labyrinth to function as floor heating.

He slowly began to sweat. In the opposite direction to the fireplace for cooking, a pantry, smokehouse and small warehouse were created. The walls got shelves made of stone, which he quickly began to fill one after the other with the cooking utensils. With which he could remove something from his storage. The middle of the room was given an elongated stone table with simple stone stools.

On the second floor he began to shape his bedroom, where he only needed one, because Leica would always sleep with him. So far everything was made of stone, which made it look rather clumsy, but that should change very soon.

He remembered his metal molding, from which he could create some tools for woodworking, although he doubted the strength of the tools. Finally, the second floor got the largest adjoining room, which was very similar to the room in the dungeon itself and yet was much smaller. He didn't own that many of the madman's books. After the shelves were finished, he shoveled the books in rows from his storage outside next to the shelves, because the sorting was to take place later. The middle of the room would have a table, like a chair, with which he could study the readings at a later point in time.

Finally he let the spiral staircase go to just below the edge of the rock face. With a room on the side that led just below the waterfall, he created an opening through the stone on the side of the river above, which was connected with a very narrow stone grille. This should let water through, but nothing more than this. More stone grids followed at intervals until the water led into a massive adjoining room that was to serve as a water tank. Various lines led down from there. For one thing, a couple of lines led to the kitchen, but much more essential, the others led to the makeshift bathroom on the second floor! A real shower, which had to be opened again and again with the stone molding, but was still a shower, a bathtub and a toilet adorned the room.

It was getting late in the evening and his work was still not finished. The spiral staircase had to grow deeper, where the warehouse, laboratory and experiment room would be. Not only did he slowly run out of strength, but also his concentration. However, not only had it made enormous gains from its shaping, but it also acquired one or the other new skill. At first, almost indiscriminately, all the collected resources were thrown into the camps. Here, too, the sorting should only start at the end.

Completely exhausted from that day, but terribly proud, he closed the lower entrance and almost fell on the second floor in the bedroom of Leica, who had made herself comfortable on the slight stone elevation that was supposed to be a bed. He could at least call that a day.

As he fell asleep, he thought that everything about his new home seemed terribly unfinished. He had once thought of a magician tower, but these towers were so clichéd and more reminiscent of phallic symbolism. He hadn't compensated anything in his last life, nor would he start doing it in this new one. Those towers were just the shame of old men! Just thinking about it gave him a strange aura of goosebumps.

He would make it to a home, dont matter how far away it looks like. A real home. His own.
