Chapter 9.2

It was pretty simple, but since the animal would not be able to be grabbed once trapped, she grabbed the bow and arrows and went a distance away. The other three set up the trap and made themselves scarce. It wasn't long before the trap snapped shut. An arrow came sailing in through one of the holes and all the noise stopped.

Endermon showed up a few seconds later to see what was in the trap. It was some kind of bird and was not going anywhere. Shiloh volunteered to clean it and Endermon knew what that meant.

A few minutes later Shiloh reappeared and looked like she had just applied some lipstick. Endermon caught her eyes and subtly motioned to her lips. Shiloh turned away and discreetly wiped her lips. Rutus grabbed the bird and cut the bird into portions.

Dresden took an arrow or two and speared the meat and propped it up over the firepit. As the meat cooked they discussed what happened in the building since they had gotten there. They all agreed it was rather strange. What with the tests, the random helpful things and the fact that no one did things entirely on their own.

Once the meat was cooked, everyone took an arrow, with the exception of Shiloh, and started eating. Even without herbs or spices, it was really good. Soon enough there was a pile of bones with a little bit of meat left on them beside Rutus and Endermon. Dresden motioned to is and asked if they were going to finish it. They said no, and he grabbed it and happily crunched away.

Trying and failing to hide their shudders, Endermon and Rutus had to wait til he was done. But with a warning look from Shiloh, he was at least not as obnoxious with it. But soon he was done, as it wasn't a very big bird to start with.

Having had lunch they went back to the chest, the money. And the 5 scrolls. In addition to the first sentence, another had Bern added. It said they must complete all tasks according to his or her station. There was also a cage, a target, some fallen pillars, and the outline of an animal.

There were still some parts that were blurred out. But about half of the scroll was filled in. But that meant there was half left, not to mention getting out of the building. Not having looked at their individual scrolls, Endermon suggested looking at them to see if they could get a clue about what to do next.

They looked and each one simply said four truths. Knowing she should probably come clean to the whole group, Endermon stood up and said her name was Endermon Dracu and she was the crown princess of the fairy kingdom. She said she could speak to animals, communicate with plant life, and after the two most recent encounters with the places the treasure was supposed to be, could enhance her eyesight, and could heal by touch.

As Dresden sat there with his mouth hanging open, Shiloh stood up and cleared her throat. She said her name was Shiloh Archeron and she was a vampire. She could have limited control over people's actions, was super fast, and once she visited the two places, she could feel other's emotions, and could walk around in daylight.

Dresden said so that's why he never saw her eat anything. He then paused and asked if she had ever mind controlled him. Shiloh paused and delicately said she had 'pursuaded' him a couple times. He just shook his head.

Then Rutus stood up to her full height and said her name was Rutus Skarmout, and was a half dwarf. She felt she wasn't as impressive as a fairy princess and a vampire, but all her life, she was fascinated by blacksmithing and metalwork. Dresden snorted and said, No, really? Ignoring the sarcasm, Rutus continued, she said she could never do it at home, because it was a make dominated field, and she although good at piecing things together was not thought of as good at metalwork.

She paused and said that since she had been on the journey, her metalwork had increased, and she could now complete projects in record time, and she could literally melt metal with her bare hands.

Dresden finally stood up and said he came from a village of shapeshifters, and he was kind of not well liked there. He had either worn out his welcome in mist places or had too much bad blood between him and a bunch of his fellow villagers.
