Chapter 4.7

Getting up for the day, Dresden was dismayed that they had to leave their campsite. But with a no nonsense tone from Endermon, he gathered up only what couldn't be left behind and started down the road.

He was surprised, however, when they stopped a little ways away and saw the strange man leaning against a black carriage with two monster stallions hitched up to it. He watched as Endermon said a few words to the man, and then they were off again.

There was teasing between them all, but a comment from Rutus made Dresden feel he needed to prove himself. He said he could catch their lunch in a matter of minutes. Rutus just said, yeah right. And a challenge was laid down.

They looked to Endermon for permission, and when she gave it, they took off towards the river. Not looking where he was going, he tripped over a root that was sticking up above the soil. Landing in about a foot of water, he tried to make it look like he dove in after a fish, but was mad to see Rutus down the river a bit with two fish on a bit of string. Sulking, they went back to where Endermon was sitting. They then went off the main path where Endermon made a small fire.

They ate the fish and in that time, Dresden got relatively dry. They set off and hoping to get a reaction, took off his shirt, complaining of dampness. After a brief recoil, Endermon and Rutus largely ignored him. Upset, Dresden put his shirt back on. As they continued down the road, Dresden began to complain that he was bored.

So he quickly stripped and continued on as a dog. He got great delight watching the ladies have to pick up after him. So he did this multiple times. After being scolded by Noth Rutus and Endermon, he stopped. He didn't stop making comments until they got to what Endermon deemed their new campsite.

Dropping everything, he and Rutus ran around trying to get the best sleeping spot. Noticing that Rutus had her eye on prime riverbank realty, he rudely called out that it was his spot, as he had seen it first. He pumped his fist in victory when Endermon said he deserved the spot. He watched smugly as Rutus went across the clearing to another spot.

After rearranging the foliage to make a bed, he wandered into the clearing. The black haired woman said she would be patrolling the area. Dresden wondered when she got there, but with dinner being made, he found he didn't actually care. Once they were all eating, the woman poked her head in and said something about a tree falling on their old campsite.

He and Rutus exchanged glances and asked how she knew that was going to happen. Endermon said something about being a fairy and more in tune with nature, blah blah blah. Endermon then said she had stomach issues and disappeared to her sleeping area.

A little while later she came back and started cleaning up after dinner like nothing had happened. He watched her go and followed her silently to get answers one way or another. When she turned to him to order him to help, he was momentarily startled. How did she know he was there? He grabbed a rag and began half heartedly drying the dishes. Hoping for gossip or a weakness from the black haired woman, he asked about Shiloh.

He then tried to bribe Endermon into sleeping with him, but got a towel snap to the groin. She left and told him to put the dishes away. He did, but he licked them first. The next morning, after breakfast they went for supplies.

Dresden was pestering everyone until Endermon sent him off. Blowing off steam, he stripped and turned into a wolf, then immediately got caught in a trap. And no matter how he struggled, he couldn't get free.

The other two arrived, freed him, and he set about being the most unhelpful he could be. After being threatened, they settled in for the night. The next day they went back to the camp. No one was in a bad mood and they talked freely. With his injuries and a little rest, he went and laid down. He healed faster than others and would be mostly better in the morning. He went to sleep and slept soundly.
