Chapter 6.1

Endermon was impressed. Both of them seemed to have gotten more skills since their visit to the cave, but she frowned when she realized outside of being able yo see in the dark, she didn't have extra things she could show off, or at the very least help out a little more. A cry of pain broke her out of her thoughts.

Rutus had sliced her hand open and was trying unsuccessfully to bandage it. Since the food was mostly ready, she went over to help Rutus with her hand. Endermon grabbed Rutus's hand to see how deep the cut went, and running her hand over the cut, was surprised to see the wound healing itself.

There was a surprised exclamation and Rutus was staring at her in shock. She asked how long she had been able to do that, and why were her eyes solid black? Endermon blinked and said that the healing was a new development.

Thankfully, Dresden was still talking to hear his own voice, and was oblivious to Endermon's new 'powers'. Rutus asked her what else she could do, and with all this happening she figured Rutus ought to know. She said she could talk to animals and influence plant life.

Rutus didn't believe her so Endermon had to concentrate a little, but got the grass to grow in a knife pattern. Rutus said okay, now for the animals. Endermon reached out and asked any snakes to go crawl up Dresden's pant legs. She murmured this so Rutus could see she wasn't lying. Not that she'd have a reason to, but you know how it goes.

A nearby snake seemed to nod at Endermon and slithered off. They watched and listened. Sure enough, Dresden came out shouting and dancing about. In all the commotion, the snake left Dresden, without him noticing. He was still trying to shake his pant legs out to get it away from himself. He only stopped when he noticed Endermon and Rutus laughing at him.

With Dresden sulking in the cabin, Rutus and Endermon resumed making dinner. They finished just as it was getting dark. Taking the food inside, they put it on one of the only tables the cabin had and put it on plates to distribute. They ate as Shiloh strolled into the cabin. She asked what she missed and Dresden and Rutus began trying to tell her about their day at the same time. Rubbing her temples as if to ward off a headache, Shiloh said she could barely hear herself think. But at the same time, she spoke into Rutus's mind and suggested she let Dresden go first.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

Rutus thought this was a good idea and let Dresden take the floor. He told a greatly exaggerated version where he heroically saved the day by flying them out of there. Shiloh raised her eyebrow in disbelief, but otherwise said nothing. Satisfied he told the best version, Dresden went back to eating.

Rutus then told her version and then feeling like she needed to do something with her hands went out to polish everyones armor. Shiloh looked to Endermon for her side of the story. Endermon took her out by the horses to elaborate. She said what she experienced up to healing Rutus with a touch and Shiloh whistled.

Endermon then told her about the off feeling she had then about blacking out in the cave. Shiloh said she'd be back and zipped off. Endermon assumed it was to check out the cave, but with what happened with the tavern, she was not expecting much.

Shiloh stepped back in not too much later and said the fruit stand was just that, a stand. No fruit, no rotting smell, just some wooden boards and some faded canvas. Endermon was confused. She asked about the cave and Shiloh said the rock was there, but when she climbed up, Shiloh only saw a view of the ocean. But as she made her way down, she saw an area that looked like someone had passed out and there was a slight glow. She said she stuck her hand in it and got an image of what happened.

Shiloh also said that after she did that, the roots on the rock all of a sudden let go, and the whole thing collapsed into the ocean. Feeling more confused than ever, Endermon asked if there was anything that proved they were there after the collapse, and Shiloh shook her head no.
