Chapter 8&9: The Defiler

Chapter 8&9: The Defiler

Under the cold moonlight, Felix moved with a speed akin to a ghostly apparition, his blood boiling with the thrill of the kill.

The screams of his dying enemies sent an indescribable shiver through his soul. He calmly loaded his crossbow, his gaunt figure leaping through the shadows, his bolts piercing the throats of the adventurers with deadly precision.

Drawing his shortsword, Felix blocked a fierce strike from the leader of the adventurers. Using the force of the impact, he soared into the air, and in a mid-air flip, he aimed his crossbow at the terrified face of an adventurer and firmly pulled the trigger.

In just two minutes, six members of the Oath of the Shattered Blade lay dead by Felix's hand. His speed was beyond human, even elven rangers couldn't compare!

Dropping to one knee, Felix's lean figure coiled like a spring and then shot into the midst of the adventurers like a cannonball. His cold shortsword reflected a chilling light under the moon. A desperate adventurer raised his sword in a futile attempt to block Felix's vicious assault.

A crisp snap followed, and then he felt himself flying, seeing a broken sword, a hand holding it, a headless corpse!

Discarding his nearly ruined shortsword, Felix sneered and, with bare hands, lunged at the adventurers now terrified by his ghostly speed.

His effeminate face, pale skin, blood splattering on his features, then dripping down his cheeks – the joy of slaughter excited him beyond measure.

He felt as if a ferocious beast was bound within his chest. The blood of his enemies, their dying screams, awakened this beast completely. A nameless power began to gather in his blood, growing more tumultuous and wild.

An ominous ferocity began to show on his handsome face.

Felix's movements became faster, and somehow, his hands were now covered in a layer of frost. Facing the attacks of the low-level adventurers from the Oath of the Shattered Blade, he caught their swords barehanded.

"Crack!"

As Felix caught a sword with his bare hands, the face of the adventurer trying to ambush him filled with horror and despair. A layer of frost visibly formed and completely encased the sword in ice.

Raging elemental power! Terrifying strength!

Felix felt the power surging in his blood, almost becoming tangible, radiating wildly from his heart throughout his body. He caught the sword of another adventurer behind him between two fingers and easily snapped it into two pieces of scrap.

The ground under Felix began to freeze, a thick layer of frost spreading. The adventurers suddenly felt their blood as if turning to ice, even breathing became difficult.

With a sinister laugh, Felix grabbed the neck of the ambushing adventurer, and in his eyes filled with despair and fear, twisted it off.

"Crack! Crack!"

When the overwhelming frost energy burst from Felix, the adventurers from the Oath of the Shattered Blade became like lambs to the slaughter. The solidifying of their blood left them powerless, helplessly watching as Felix, with his pale, elongated hands, twisted their necks.

The only exception was the leader of the adventurers. The power from the abyss gave him the ability to resist the frost energy.

He jumped out of the range of the frost energy in terror, only to watch, as Felix, smiling viciously like a reaper from hell, harvested the lives of his companions.

"Frost Power!"

The frost energy bursting from Felix not only awakened the giant bear druid but also alarmed all the professionals in Snowdrift Hollow!

The bear druid, surprisingly agile for his size, leaped from the room. His massive body, with the nimbleness of a cheetah, soared onto the rooftops and rushed towards the site of the battle.

The first to arrive at the scene of the battle was the mysterious assassin known as Mosquito. He looked at Felix, now overwhelmed by negative emotions, and gasped in shock: "Frost Power!"

He was certain it was Frost Power. Only such a terribly corrosive force could instantaneously freeze the very earth into ice!

"Are you an undead?!" Mosquito, the assassin, drew his dagger, not aiming at the leader of the adventurers but at Felix, who was reaping the lives of the adventurers...

In the assassin's mind, only undead creatures could possess Frost Power. "A living body can't contain such elemental power that can even freeze blood. Only the impure undead can."

The tangible burst of Frost Power gradually subdued the bloodlust in Felix's heart.

After snapping the neck of the last adventurer, he turned around, fixing his murderous gaze on the now terrified leader of the adventurers.

Snow and wind swirled around Felix. A layer of crystal frost slowly covered his pale hands, and in just a moment, a shortsword made of ice materialized in his palm. Pointing at the terrified adventurer leader, he declared, "You must die!"

Fear can make one weak, but it can also be the catalyst for madness!

"Ha ha ha! Undead! Ha ha ha! Who would have thought there's something more defiled than me here!" Overwhelmed by extreme fear, the leader of the adventurers suddenly burst into a mad, raucous laughter. He tore off his clothes, revealing a hideously transformed body.

Skin obviously keratinized, a strange dark red hue, bone spurs protruding from the elbows, a pair of white bones jutting out from his back, and a blood-red eye slowly opening on his chest,

"The Defiler!"

They were no longer within the realm of humanity. The Defiler, after being transformed by demonic blood, truly possessed the ability to control negative energy! This power wasn't learned but was a gift from their merged bloodline. And the strongest among them had even slaughtered their former masters, powerful high demons with divine attributes!

This is what the Defiler was: a creature between human and monster.

Lower-level Defilers fused monsters from the abyss into their bodies. These abyssal monsters, under the power of a pact, would merge with the human body of the Defiler, becoming a new creature, neither human nor monster.

Higher-level Defilers underwent complete demonization. Some even devoured demons, transforming from human to high-level demonic beings!

In this continent, the history of abyssal demon invasions was long, and the Defilers had been around for a very long time.

They were the first group of human sorcerers to side with the abyssal demons. The Defilers of that era were extraordinarily powerful, even stronger than some demons, because they were powerful spellcasters themselves.

The emergence of the Defilers greatly increased the pressure on the alliances of various races, tipping the balance of the battlefield in favor of the abyssal demons.

Everything changed after the arrival of My Lord. The power of the Holy Light severely suppressed the negative energy of the demons, and the Light of Purification was particularly lethal to the Defilers! As a result, the number of Defilers drastically decreased.

The first group of sorcerers who had merged with high demons disappeared into the dust of history.

Now, the Defilers were more like rats hiding in the sewers, staying away from the human world illuminated by the Holy Light. They could only occasionally be seen in the fringes and chaotic areas, their evil presence lurking.

Felix watched coldly as the adventurer leader transformed. Keratinized skin, bone spurs - Felix felt he had seen something similar before, but much, much larger!

When the blood-red eyes on the chest of the adventurer leader fully opened, his human features almost completely disappeared. His muscles flowed like mercury, gathering around his waist. His spine bent completely, and several bone spurs with a cold gleam protruded from his back. The skin on his face slowly keratinized and thickened.

His hands grew larger, with sharp claws and fangs. When the transformation ended, the adventurer leader had become a round, fleshy orb with human limbs, and several bone spurs on his back wriggling as he screeched.

Then, two bony wings unfolded from his body, about three meters wide, covered with a sticky flesh membrane, looking extremely fierce and repulsive!

The assassin's hostile gaze towards Felix immediately shifted to the demonized Defiler. Felix only had the power of frost, but this monster radiated the true negative energy of the abyss!

In the world of Delrano, abyssal species were like the undead of the Prime Material Plane, the foremost enemy of all living beings!

In the Prime Material Plane, undead creatures almost led to the world's destruction. If it weren't for the church conducting several divine descents, the Prime Material Plane would have had no living beings left. In the world of Delrano, the abyssal demons almost truly conquered this plane!

Undead did appear in Delrano as well, but this remote and sparsely populated plane hadn't yet caught the attention of the liches. The few undead creatures, though shunned by the natives of this world, hadn't led to war.

The Tree of Life was a sanctuary for souls. The success rate of necromancers summoning spirits in this plane was greatly reduced.

Souls at rest cannot be summoned by the power of death.

The demonized leader of the adventurers slowly opened his murky eyes, looking at Felix while making a strange "gurgle" sound. His massive bony wings unfolded gradually. The spherical demon glanced at Felix fearfully before fixing its greedy, bloodthirsty gaze on the assassin.

Felix's surging power of frost instilled fear in it, and following its monstrous instincts, it chose a prey it believed it could handle.

"The Abyss?" Felix, gripping his ice-crafted sword with pale hands, showed a hint of confusion on his face. Looking at the demonized leader, he murmured thoughtfully, "A familiar aura. From hell?"

Felix felt as if he was on the verge of remembering something, yet the fog in his memory persisted. The aura of the transformed creature felt familiar, as though he had once created a similar being.

When Felix snapped out of his thoughts, the battle had shifted.

The giant bear druid was already engaged in combat with the demonized leader, and the assassin known as Mosquito from Snowdrift Hollow had also joined the fray.

Two against one, yet they were utterly overpowered!

The demon, wielding the power of the Abyss, held its own against both adversaries. Its weapons were its sharp teeth, claws, and keratinized body. The unfolded bony wings allowed it to fly swiftly within a ten-meter range. Its seemingly cumbersome body was incredibly agile.

Except for the assassin, who managed to inflict some damage, the giant bear druid couldn't keep up with its combat rhythm.

"Bang!"

After another head-on collision, the giant bear druid was sent flying backward, while the demonized defiler staggered from the impact. The creature's strength was immense, matching the terrifying might of the bear druid.

As the bear druid clashed with it, the hidden assassin made his move.

His lean figure dashed through the air, leaving a trail of afterimages. The assassin's dagger, glinting coldly, became a blur as he dodged the defiler's claws and plunged the dagger deep into its abdomen.

"Ao! Ao!"

A piercing howl echoed as dark red fluid gushed from the defiler's wound, filling the air with a foul stench.

After being ambushed in the abdomen, the defiler's murky eyes flashed with anger and hatred. Its round body writhed, and then, opening its mouth wide, it unexpectedly spewed a pale green flame!

"Flame Breath!"

Unexpectedly, the demon merged with the defiler had some dragon lineage, capable of using a dragon's breath ability!

Just as the pale green flames surged towards the giant bear druid and the mysterious assassin, Felix fully awakened from his contemplation.
