Chapter 52: The Descend Ritual

Chapter 52: The Descend Ritual

Summoning, one of the three major branches of magic akin to the Arcane's side branch of Divination, is unique. The difference lies in that all forms of Divination are rooted in The Great Prophecy Tome and The Minor Prophecy Scroll. Summoning, on the other hand, evolved from another, more peculiar branch, an ancient magic known as Covenant Magic!

Those who specialize in Summoning as a casting profession are divided into two main streams: one is the Elemental Summoner, and the other is the Warlock.

The reason I bring this up is that Felix, after perusing the archives of Felendia, decided to pursue a specialization that could translate immediately into practical power. His exceptional mental strength is crucial in the practice of Covenant Summoning Magic, determining the success of the summoning.

There are two main types of Summoning. The first involves reconstituting natural elements from the outside world into elementals with little intelligence. The second, more potent yet complex and perilous type is Contract Summoning, which draws from the intelligent beings of Hell and the Abyss. Without sufficient power to suppress these summoned beings, being devoured by them is quite common.

Of course, Felix wouldn't dare summon dark species, as he lacks the negative energy and the power to construct magic circles.

His aim lies higher, with the Valiant Spirits from Heaven!

Naturally, the church wouldn't refer to such an act with a term as pejorative as Summoning; they have a more refined term—Descend!

No, Felix isn't mad.

He intends to make an angel Descend!

His innate talent for holy light and his affinity for it are astoundingly profound. This is vital because it means he can form an equal pact with the Valiant Spirits of Heaven.

Angels are classified into three tiers: Valiant Spirits, Holy Sons, and Sanctity.

With their status more noble than dragons, the power of angels is indisputable. Even the lowest tier, the Valiant Spirits, possesses strength surpassing that of the Golden Dominion, bordering on the legendary. It is necessary to mention the apex of angelic beings known to people—the Seraphim, conceived by God himself in ancient times—a Sanctity life without divinity but with the immense power of deities!

The Holy Sons are the most infamous among angels as they are not created by the Lord nor born from holy light but resurrected by Saints, worshipped by the church yet cursed by darkness—the god of light, Iyeta, from the fervent believers who died in battle!

Felix aims for the Valiant Spirits, Sacred Coffin Knights who, through devout faith, cross planes to be resurrected in Heaven, becoming new beings who fight for the holy light!

Each angel who becomes a Valiant Spirit is a warrior worthy of respect, for their belief system has evolved into the legendary "Eight Virtues"—Justice and Fairness.

They guard the holy light and battle for Justice!

Slowly fading from the annals of history and the legends of poetry is a profession respected by all and even esteemed by dark beings—the Paladin!

"I swear to be kind to the weak,

I swear to bravely confront the strong,

I swear to fight against all that is wrong,

I swear to battle for those who can't bear arms,

I swear to help any who seek my aid,

I swear to harm no woman,

I swear to assist my fellow knights,

I swear to treat my friends with sincerity,

I swear to be unswervingly loyal to my love until death…"

In ancient history, amidst decay and fall, knights who believed in Justice maintained Fairness among humanity.

They were Paladins, warriors who truly upheld the knightly vows!

Knights now choose to follow a single belief in Heroism and Honor will not understand, nor will Felix. Hence, they have become legends…

While Felix does not agree with the so-called Justice, it does not prevent him from respecting knights who believe in Justice and Fairness.

They are a group worthy of respect!

Time moves back to a day ago, precisely yesterday afternoon at three-ten magic hour.

Felix, preparing to head to the magic tower, received some news that was far from good; the Notre Dame had arranged a formidable and dangerous task for him, the new adjudicator.

At The Burial Ground of Bones, where The Sword in the Stone lies, a rumor has it that another treasure is buried there, unknown to the world, known among those who know of it as — The Left Hand of God! The Notre Dame wishes to possess it; they need to ascertain if The Left Hand of God truly exists there.

This task should have been assigned to Lady Ireland, for she is the Notre Dame's Wings of Judgment. Her status in Notre Dame is comparable to that of a 'saint,' where obligation and power are always in balance; Lady Ireland must serve when Notre Dame faces trouble.

The middle-aged nun who assigned the task to Felix told him gently that if he wishes, he could decline this mission, but then the governance of Saint Erde Cathedral must be returned to the Notre Dame. Aside from Lady Ireland's personal nun,

Felix could not take anyone else; they would appoint a new priest to take over Saint Erde Cathedral, and all other rights except for the adjudicator’s status would be revoked by Notre Dame.

Felix cursed internally with an 'f*ck' and could only nod in helpless agreement.

He did not want to give up Saint Erde Cathedral, nor did he want to be away from the sanctuary of holy light. So no matter how perilous the mission, he couldn't refuse it.

Six were to carry out this task: three knighted women trained by the Notre Dame, two holy priests, and Felix himself. The three knighted women were above the Silver Domain in strength, the two holy priests were high-ranking white-robed clerics, and Felix could only discern that one had reached the Golden Dominion, the depth of the other, Felix could not fathom.

The departure is set for the day after tomorrow, meaning Felix has only one day to perform the Descend ritual!

The Burial Ground of Bones, the land of wailing undead, Felix needs the power to ensure he can come out alive.

He doesn't like fighting unsure battles and, after secretly requesting the aid of the "Ranger of Light," Aurelia, he decides to risk Descending an angel to be his guardian.

To live, everything is possible.

He, has always been cautious…
