Chapter 62: The Choice

Chapter 62: The Choice

"I once met a traveler named Lisa at Heaven’s Gate. As for what a traveler is, you'd better not ask too much.

"It's quite a complex issue. She was an ordinary person from a distant plane who crossed through the planar barrier due to some special natural phenomenon and arrived at this parallel plane. When I met her, she had already died. Her soul seemed fragmented by some force, holding partial memories but lacking a complete consciousness.

"She often wandered near Heaven’s Gate, muttering some odd and unusual things. What kind of odd things? The kind that I'm talking about.

"Her curiosity piqued mine, and I accessed some of her memories, learning many interesting pieces of knowledge. Unfortunately, her mind was maintained by an extraordinarily strong force, and I couldn't glimpse into the deeper memories of her soul."

"As time went by, I felt her soul weakening, unsupported by elemental forces. If she continued to wander, she would dissipate completely, reverting to a most basic state of unconsciousness.

"During a surge of elemental tides, I cast her soul into Heaven’s Gate. As compensation for reading her memories, I chose her next life to be that of a royal princess. Given the operational standards of Heaven’s Gate, the chance of deviation is very slim.

"Souls reborn during an elemental surge tend to have exceptional magical talents in their next life. If I'm not wrong, she should have already reached legendary status in this life. To recognize her when we meet again, I left a serpentine mark on her backside. This mark will become her birthmark, impossible to erase."

With that, the angelic sister patted Felix on the head with a sly smile, sweetly saying, "My dear little fellow, why don't you sneak a peek tonight and see if that woman has a serpentine birthmark on her behind, okay?"

Felix was still processing the information Angela had spilled when he heard this suggestion. He jumped back as if startled, avoiding it like a frightened rabbit!

Let's not even mention the possibility that the middle-aged man with a deadly aura could be the rumored emperor's attendant knight, The Silver Hand.

Just considering the woman, who might be the legendary "Daughter of the Sea," Princess Helen, her strength was not something Felix could match. Peering into her mental waves was like being lost at sea—endless and overwhelming, with the danger of sinking at any moment.

Felix thought he hadn't lived enough to entertain such a death-seeking suggestion. He didn't want to try it at all.

Another traveler? A wandering soul after death? A strong spiritual force deep within the soul? Is it like the power deep within himself?

If he died and his unconscious soul was reborn, would he become a true native of this world?

Felix's conclusion was affirmative. Forgetting past memories, embracing the knowledge of this new world, everything would be different.

Princess Helen, the traveler's reincarnation—Felix was sure there was some connection. The only thing missing was proof. Intuition told Felix that the angelic sister beside him was hiding something, something she didn't want him to know.

Chapter 62: Choices

Felix took out a parchment scroll and, with a quill pen, listed several sets of data that seemed as cryptic as ancient scripts.

The number of travelers couldn't be many because this world has maintained its original order, and a powerful traveler could cause significant disruption to it.

There's little in this world that features modern Earth characteristics, which means the travelers who do appear are likely eliminated by the force that maintains order under the laws before they can make a change.

This continent strictly adheres to medieval-like laws, even for the Sacred Coffin Knight and legendary spellcasters, who all follow the system under these laws strictly. New inventions are tightly controlled, even to the point of suppression, like the magi-tech engine, which is the birth of steam magic, facing severe repression. This topic has become almost a fringe subject in magical studies.

Another dead traveler gave Felix a lot of information and food for thought.

The power bestowed deep within the traveler's soul gave Felix some wild ideas, but he soon discarded them.

"I think the most crucial thing now is not whether she is a princess or the wandering soul you've encountered before, the so-called traveler," Felix put down the quill, looked up at the angelic sister beside him, still unsure how to regard this mostly irrational and frenzied woman.

He set the parchment on fire and threw it into the brazier, then spoke lightly, "What's important now is whether you decide to return to Heaven or fight them."

Intuition told Felix that the woman's words were no joke. If a choice was not made overnight, she really might exile the angelic sister beside him at all costs! Exile...

"What if I said I don't want to return to Heaven?" the angelic sister squinted, her beautiful pale blue eyes fixed on Felix, her demeanor becoming rare in its seriousness. She pinched Felix's cheek, her eyes sparkling with a special gleam, "If it really comes to a fight, will you help me?"

Felix removed the playful hand from his face, holding it in his, and after a moment of silence, he responded, "I will."

"But if the opponent is unbeatable, I will run." Felix pulled out Mammon’s Redemption from the Blue Crystal, then spread a handful of blood agate powder over his left hand, saying gravely, "If you really decide to take action, we should choose two in the morning, when people's spirits are most relaxed."

"We only have one chance to ambush! Both the woman and that middle-aged knight are very strong."

Felix met Angela's gaze without fear, torn between the angelic sister with whom he shared a soul contract and ambiguous relations, and the unfamiliar woman whose intentions—hostile or friendly—were unclear. Felix knew which choice he had to make.

"Fighting and killing, I hate that the most!" the angelic sister hugged Felix again, pressing her full chest against his, seemingly touched by something he said.

Angela caressed Felix's face with uncharacteristic gentleness, then said, "Considering all the advantages I've given you, at least you have some conscience."

Felix stayed silent, unsure of what to say.

"Thinking of exiling me?" the angelic sister squinted her eyes, her lips curling into a slight smile, her petite body laughing charmingly. "It won't be that easy!"

Felix lifted his eyes then dropped them again. He realized he never truly understood this woman...

"Your words just now pleased me; this is your reward." The angelic sister smiled seductively, grabbed Felix's hand, and slid it under the collar of her snowy white nun's habit, pressing it against her full and soft chest...

An angel?

No! She was a devil!
