Chapter 37: The Shackles of Realms

Chapter 37: The Shackles of Realms

“Fire elementals,” Felix looked at the masked woman with incredulity, her answer surpassing the limits of his imagination. Elemental beings ruling the land, and they were intelligent life forms.

The corners of the masked woman’s mouth lifted slightly as she said softly, “Unbelievable, isn’t it? If life can continue through birth, why can’t it be inherited through division?”

“Do fire elementals come from the Elemental Realm you mentioned?” Felix felt this was all beyond his knowledge, needing more information to understand this unfamiliar world.

“Elemental Realm,” the woman chuckled coldly, “This is now the Material Realm, but before the ancient orcs arrived on this continent, would you still consider it a Material Realm?”

“Before the ancient orcs arrived, you mean…” Felix’s body shook violently, his face showing shock as he stared at the woman.

“Why does the Abyss invade the Delrano world? For faith? The Abyss has no less intelligent life to offer faith than the Material Realm,” she gently lifted her veil, revealing a breathtakingly beautiful face to Felix.

Her face was exquisitely beautiful, but it shimmered with a metallic luster, turning silver as she removed her veil. Her arms, neck, and all exposed skin began to transform into a dazzling silver light.

“What the Abyss sought to do was what the elves initially aimed for,” her silver skin reflected a dazzling light in the firelight, mesmerizing Felix. The mysterious woman smiled gently, “In fact, before the ancient orcs came to this realm, this ancient world was always a peripheral realm floating between Elemental Realms. The ancient orcs rooted themselves on this scorched land, bringing the power of totems, introducing other natural elements to this land filled with flames.

Then came the high elves.

They brought the seeds of the Tree of Life, a force capable of changing the world.

The four elemental forces spread to the core of the world along with the roots of the Tree of Life. Nature revived, and new life gradually emerged on this land.

With the birth of the Goddess of Life and the completion of the pantheon, a new balance emerged.

The law forces centered around the Tree of Life infused this ancient continent with vitality, and the alternating cycle of the four natural elements gradually shifted this world away from the trajectory of the Elemental Realm.

When the first Elemental Tide emerged, this ancient continent officially transformed from an Elemental Realm into a Material Realm.

It was then that the Abyss first set its sights on this land.”

Felix fell silent, deeply silent.

After a long while, he finally spoke, “Are you saying that when the Elemental Tide emerged, the demons of the Abyss invaded this world to transform this realm from a Material Realm into one of the Abyss?”

“Yes. In fact, in our current era, there exist countless realms, large and small, changing their forms over tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of years. The so-called gods are merely participants in this game of power. Divinity is just a tool to transform realms, of course, it must be the divinity of the supreme god of this realm.

From what I deciphered from the Tree of Life, the Abyss quickly fell during the first Elemental Tide as this realm had very scarce negative energy.

However, during the second Elemental Tide, the Abyssal invasion inflicted a heavy toll on this realm. Even the legendary gods from the first Elemental Tide era nearly lost half of their number. The reason is simple: the great demons who died in the first Elemental Tide dispersed into this world.

Their death released negative energy into this world. Before the Abyssal invasion, this world had neither demon sorcerers nor defilers. The dispersed negative energy and the text left by demons gave birth to a new professional system.

A new balance system was born. Of course, the fact that this realm could withstand the onslaught of the Abyss and Hell for so long was undoubtedly due to another factor—holy light.

You carry the power of the undead, but you have the aura of holy light, although I don’t like that scent.”

The mysterious woman, as if tearing off a mask that had always covered her, smiled elegantly at Felix with a calm gaze.

"Holy light," Felix looked at his pale hands in confusion, truly perplexed. All of this seemed beyond his understanding.

The mysterious woman tossed the purple crystal skull into Felix's palm and said coldly, "This crystal skull is the remains of a god, one that fell during the second Elemental Tide."

"The Abyss excavated the battlefields of the Elemental Tide, you must have seen those things. When I first met you, there was a residual aura of a defiler on you, their scent is easy to distinguish." The mysterious woman stared deeply into Felix’s eyes, speaking in a solemn tone.

"Then, who are you?" Felix asked after a long silence.

The masked woman spread her hands, revealing strange symbols between her silver-white fingers, more like veins than writing, some kind of runic pattern.

"I am a traveler of realms, Marilyn. You can call me Princess Silver Dragon." The woman smiled seductively, her skin turning to a normal human complexion in the firelight, fair and translucent like cream.

"So you really are a dragon," Felix frowned slightly. The woman had given him many answers, but they brought even more questions. He hated this feeling, needing to regain his lost memories, as his current limited knowledge couldn't parse the truth of her words.

"Dragons aren’t that rare. There are no fewer than twenty pure-blooded dragons in this realm, but few have the ability to travel between realms," Marilyn smiled nonchalantly, continuing, "Among dragons, I am an anomaly. They prefer to nest in their lairs for thousands of years, while I prefer the human world with its delicious food, beautiful scenery, and of course, handsome young men."

The woman with the stunning face put her veil back on, glancing at Felix with a captivating smile.

"Why tell me all this?" Felix felt a slight pain in his head, the kind that arose whenever he delved into his deep memories.

"I'm just a visitor to this realm," Marilyn hesitated, then continued, "When I first came to this realm, I received some gifts from the Tree of Life, so I agreed to do something for it."

"In fact, the third Elemental Tide is coming soon. My purpose for being here is to check if the seals on the battlefield remains have loosened." Marilyn pulled out a green leaf, vibrant and fresh like the one Felix had eaten earlier, and continued, "The Tree of Life foresaw some future fragments, the main battlefield of the third Abyssal invasion is in the human world. The source of victory is the holy light."

"Originally, my plan was to follow these humans to the Fort of Saint Borondo, seeking the source of the holy light," Marilyn glanced at Felix and added, "But now I've changed my mind."

Felix didn’t respond, just closed his eyes in thought.

"What a boring little guy," Marilyn muttered softly, reluctantly saying, "Now I've decided to follow you until you regain your memory."

"Why?" Felix asked, looking up.

"As I said, I'm just a visitor to this realm. In the myriad realms of this era, such struggles are endless, and I'm always just a passerby," Marilyn smiled faintly, as if the centuries-old invasion from the Abyss was just a game to her.

"Why follow me?" Felix continued, staring at the woman beside him.

"Because you're interesting," Marilyn shrugged, a playful smile on her lips.

Felix frowned slightly, then turned and walked towards his carriage.

"Fine, fine. Because I suspect you might be like me, a being of a similar kind," Marilyn bit her rose-colored lips, hesitating before speaking, "This realm is special, seemingly due to its recent transition to a Material Realm, coinciding with invasions from the Abyss and Hell. Its laws seem to enclose the elements, cutting off contact with the outside. Even gods cannot easily cross the barriers between realms."

As if to add credibility, the woman beside Felix muttered, "If I weren't stuck here, I wouldn't bother staying in a realm about to go to war."

Finally satisfied, Felix extended his pale hand, saying lightly, "Thank you for your answers today. If I truly am a traveler of realms like you, I will repay you equally for what I've gained today."

Marilyn smiled faintly, taking Felix's pale fingers in her hand, "Pleased to collaborate."

"Pleased to collaborate," Felix said, then turned and walked towards his resting carriage, leaving the woman standing there, slightly dazed.
