"I can't wait that long," Felix said, looking at the woman before him and organizing his thoughts. "The barriers of this plane may be confined, but the onset of the planar war is still some time away. Once it starts, it's unlikely to end within ten years. I can't wait that long."
"So, my goal is the same as yours," Felix turned to look out the window, "I don't have much attachment to this place. Back where I come from, there are many things waiting for me to finish."
At this point, Felix couldn't help but think of Nayara, the woman with the gentle smile in the inn.
Shaking his head to clear the chaos in his mind, Felix looked intently at the woman in front of him and said sternly, "Tell me, how did you plan to leave this plane before?"
Marilyn glanced at Felix, a hint of hesitation on her charming face. After a moment, she spoke, "I thought that maybe, by combining our powers, we could break the planar barrier and leave this place."
Hearing this, Felix frowned, "You should know that the greater the resistance in breaking through a planar barrier, the greater the backlash we'll face."
Marilyn nodded slightly, looking somewhat embarrassed.
Felix shook his head and said with a wry smile, "Let's not even talk about whether we can break the planar barrier. How will you get through the elemental turbulence that follows? Are you sure we'll still have the strength to resist the chaos and find new planar coordinates?"
Marilyn hesitated, her initial idea being to rely on the formidable body of a dragon to withstand the elemental turbulence after breaking through the barrier. But Felix's words made her doubt her plan.
Between the planes, there lies a chaotic space from the First Era, the era of the Titans. After their fall, the space between the planes turned into a wild storm of elemental turbulence. Even gods can barely endure in it.
Just like the Earth's ozone layer in his previous life, the planar barrier is both a constraint and a protection for the planes. It's their continuous resistance to the elemental turbulence that allows weaker beings to survive within the planes.
According to the myths of the Second Era, only the bloodline of giants can survive in the chaos of elemental turbulence.
Even with the strength of dragons, they might endure for a while after breaking the barrier. But the problem is, how much strength will remain after? Once the barrier is broken, we must immediately find new coordinates, otherwise, we'll be overwhelmed by the elemental chaos in minutes.
"No, it's too risky. It's practically a suicide mission," Felix immediately rejected Marilyn's plan, having no confidence against the elemental turbulence.
"Then what do you suggest?" Marilyn asked, flipping her long hair.
Felix raised an eyebrow, took a pen from his desk, and drew several arcs on a piece of parchment, then quickly sketched a map.
"Here, here, and here," Felix pointed at several spots on the map. "You should recognize these places."
Marilyn examined the hastily drawn map and hesitated before asking, "Is this Devil’s Cliff?"
"Correct. It's one of the connection points to the Abyss," Felix said gravely. "Instead of hoping to break through the planar barrier, we could sink into the Abyss and open a passage to other worlds from there."
Marilyn looked at Felix, stunned. After a moment, she regained her composure and said hesitantly, "You mean we go directly to the Abyss and then leave?"
"Exactly," Felix confirmed resolutely.
"But," Marilyn still hesitated, "the Abyss is the most chaotic and evil place. It's not a good destination for any creature."
"It's the best option we have," Felix said, frowning. "There's a saying from my homeland: the most dangerous place is often the safest. Before the planar war erupts, we go to the Abyss first, then open a planar passage to find the coordinates of the Prime Material plane where I come from. It's risky, but as long as we don't encounter the lords of the Abyss, with our strength, we can make it out."
This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.
Seeing Marilyn gradually convinced, Felix continued, "The Prime Material plane I'm from is a plane with low constraints and high elemental tides. There, numerous passages connect to other planes. There were even large-scale racial migrations across planes in the past."
"Then let's set out now," Marilyn said, flipping her hair back, her tone serious.
"Now?" Felix raised an eyebrow, his expression turning playful as he looked at the woman before him. He couldn't help but feel somewhat helpless, sensing the dragoness's eagerness to leave this plane. Furrowing his brow, he asked, "How much of your full strength do you possess now? If I'm not mistaken, you can't even transform into your dragon form at this point, can you?"
"Yes," Marilyn admitted, realizing her slip. A slight blush tinged her charming face as she nodded and sighed, "Although hibernation has restored some of my strength, the restrictions on me are still in place. Currently, I only have about thirty percent of my peak power."
"There's still some time before the outbreak of the planar war, at least the aura of the Abyss hasn't seeped through the connection points yet," Felix noted, pausing before continuing, "Our immediate priority is to regain our full strength."
"You must regain your dragon form, and I need to complete several judgment rituals to strengthen the Sacred Flame bestowed upon me by Saint Elouan."
Saying this, Felix opened his palm, and a crimson flame emerged, gently flickering.
"You must have an idea to lift the planar restrictions on yourself," Felix probed. Marilyn had previously mentioned combining their strengths to break the planar barrier, suggesting she had a plan to regain her powers.
"Yes," Marilyn nodded, "In fact, the planar restrictions imposed by the laws weaken gradually the longer I stay in this plane. Without external help, it would take about thirty years of hibernation to fully restore my strength."
"Too long," Felix shook his head without hesitation, "By that time, the planar war might have already erupted. Once the Abyss begins its full-scale invasion, we won't be able to leave."
"Another way is to go to the dragons' Place of Rest. I need the power of the Dragon God to lift the planar bindings on me," Marilyn said, glancing at Felix.
Relying on the power of the Dragon God, she wasn't deceiving him. She really was a silver dragon princess since the Dragon God wouldn't heed the call of a dragon of lowly lineage.
Unlike other deities, the dragon race is scarce. Since the First Era, there has only been one god for the dragons - the Dragon God, often referred to as the Ancestral Dragon by scholars. According to legends from the Second Era, it was one of the first dragons born in this world and the only one who survived the era when the Titans fell from the sky.
The power of dragons comes from their bloodline and time.
Felix appraised Marilyn, wondering about her age. She was clever but not cunning, likely a young adult dragon. The older dragons, living nearly ten thousand years, were cunning as foxes.
If she's indeed a young adult, being able to travel through planes with just her adult strength indicates an extraordinary lineage, perhaps related to some of the ancient dragons famous in the Second Era.
"How long will it take you to regain your full strength?" Felix asked. His own power was now solidly in the early stages of the Golden Realm. By Delrano world's standards, he was barely a newly advanced Sword Saint. His current strength was even less than when the Shadow Queen Christie first descended upon him. To rapidly increase his power, he had no choice but to follow the path of Saint Elouan and seek out and judge evil.
"Three years. If the Dragon God responds to my call in time," Marilyn said, a hint of embarrassment on her face. For a dragon, a short nap spans several years. Her only hope was that the Dragon God wasn't in a period of deep slumber; otherwise, things would get complicated.
"Three years," Felix contemplated for a moment before nodding, "Three years is enough for me to enter the Legendary Realm. Then we'll split up and meet at Devil’s Cliff in three years."
Advancing from the early stages of the Golden Realm to the Legendary Realm in three years was virtually impossible for anyone else.
Felix also thought it unlikely, had Lady Ireland not infused some information into his memory.
The power of Saint Elouan came from judgment and unwavering faith. As beings that could rival gods in power without needing divinity, Saint Elouan, though powerful, had a clear limitation: their power came entirely from My Lord.
But Felix was an anomaly.
He possessed a fragment of the Goddess of Pestilence's divinity, and according to Lady Ireland, hidden within the divinity was an embryonic realm of the gods.
Sensing the fragment of divinity in Felix, Lady Ireland had envisioned an unprecedented path for him.
A Saint Elouan with a divinity, capable of absorbing the power of faith.
What did that mean?
Neither Lady Ireland nor Felix knew.
The power of Saint Elouan came from judgment, and the power of gods from faith.
How to perfectly merge these two?
The answer was a judge walking in the sunlight.
Whether Felix liked it or not, he had to become the hero spoken of by the people. He had to judge evil time and again in the public eye, spreading the faith of the holy light. He had to proclaim justice until people saw him as the embodiment of righteousness.
He wanted all intelligent beings in the Delrano world to know his name, to call upon it. He wanted the wicked to tremble and fear at the mention of his name.
And when his fame began to spread to other planes,
When his deeds became the voice of My Lord on earth,
That would be the moment for him to ascend the throne, ignite the divine fire, and merge the divinity of the Goddess of Pestilence with himself.
And he would become the first Saint Elouan in history to possess a divinity.
