Chapter 11&12: Leave

Chapter 11&12: Leave

It was the Fiendish Monster that had merged with the adventurer leader!

"Defiler is dead, and yet it’s still alive?" Felix felt a sense of eeriness. In his perception, the defiler indeed had no signs of life. Yet, for some unknown reason, this Fiendish Monster had come back to life and even separated from the defiler's body.

There was no time to waste!

The one-eyed Fiendish Monster had already pounced towards Nayara, who was screaming in terror. It moved incredibly fast. Even Felix, with his agility, couldn't protect Nayara, now paralyzed by fear.

Even influenced by the Frost Power, Felix felt a surge of anger. He quickly turned towards Nayara's location and, as if guided by an unseen force or a spontaneous thought, he uttered a few notes.

"Shield of ice."

The language was unknown to all, as it was the ancient tongue of the undead, originating from the Lich King. A six-sided shield of ice appeared in front of Nayara, these shimmering shields completely surrounding her, forming a protective circle infused with Frost Power.

Without time to ponder why he had spoken these unfamiliar notes never before present in his memory, Felix's lean figure leaped into the air. He reached out like a fleeting shadow and grabbed the Fiendish Monster trying to escape.

The dark red, fleshy Fiendish Monster struggled in Felix's grip, but no matter how hard it tried, it couldn't budge him. His strength was no less than that of the bear druid, though he didn't know the source of this power.

"Gurgle, gurgle,"

The Fiendish Monster in Felix's palm began to convulse, making a strange sound from its belly. Then, a dark red beam of light shot out from its single eye, aiming for Felix's forehead.

"Be careful!"

The voice belonged to Lydiana Anya. She was shielding her daughter behind her and looked up to see the abnormality in the Fiendish Monster held by Felix. She had already noticed the oddities here. As a non-combatant Goddess of Life priestess, she had wisely chosen to observe.

Not every spellcaster is skilled in combat. Unlike the combat priests sent by the church, who were trained in how to fight and confront different enemies, regular priests might only know a few healing spells.

Without special training and strong mental fortitude, the tension of life-and-death situations could kill them a thousand times!

Felix sensed the elemental reaction inside the Fiendish Monster but didn’t consider it a threat. As the Fiendish Monster's round body writhed, he summoned the Frost Power flowing in his blood, ready to completely freeze it with this strangely familiar force.

Suddenly, this power awoke from within his blood, a sense of kinship, though he was still unclear if this was the Frost Power mentioned by the assassin.

As the dark red beam aimed at Felix’s forehead, something unexpected happened.

A deep gray energy, a mysterious and enigmatic elemental force, appeared beside Felix, blocking the attack for him. No one could recognize the nature of this energy.

Deep gray light emerged from Felix's body, swirling around his gaunt form and then slowly penetrated the flesh and blood of the Fiendish Monster in his hand.

Howls of agony.

The Fiendish Monster, made of dark red flesh, began to tremble, eventually evolving into violent convulsions.

As the deep gray energy infiltrated, the Fiendish Monster's body visibly withered, drying up like a plant, its flesh losing its vitality.

In just a few seconds, the Fiendish Monster’s body turned into a grotesque, dried-up corpse.

The deep gray energy slowly emanated from the withered body of the Fiendish Monster, mixed with sparkling green lights within the deep gray energy, and together they flowed into Felix's body.

Felix, somewhat puzzled, dropped the dried-up corpse. He turned back to see expressions that saddened him.

Upon witnessing the Fiendish Monster being drained into a dried corpse, an uncontrollable expression emerged in everyone's eyes — that was… fear.

Felix looked towards Lydiana Anya. In the eyes of this elven priestess, he saw wariness. Then his gaze fell on the little girl. In the young Nayara's eyes, he saw fear.

Felix slowly approached the mother and daughter who had once saved him. Lydiana Anya protected Nayara, who was so frightened by the corpses around her that she couldn't speak. Magical energy flowed around her.

"Is she guarding against me?"

A sense of sorrow welled up in Felix's heart. He looked at Nayara, whose gaze was timid and evasive. She was afraid of him, Felix could feel it. He wanted to say something to the little girl shielded by Lydiana Anya, but in the end, he just shook his head and sighed. If this young girl hadn't found him, he might have ended up in the belly of some beast by now.

A mysterious energy. Felix felt as if he was about to remember something, but he couldn't connect the fragmented memories in his mind. He felt agitated.

"What are you?" Lydiana Anya watched Felix walking towards his house and called out. Her eyebrows were furrowed, her voice a mix of questioning and fear. She didn't ask who Felix was or what he had remembered. She asked what Felix was.

Lydiana Anya had never seen such magic. It could instantly devour the life force of other beings and turn them into a dried corpse in an instant. This was a power even demons didn't possess! More importantly, when this power emerged, even she, a priestess blessed by the Goddess of Life, felt a fear of death.

Her soul was protected by the Goddess of Life; death for Lydiana Anya was merely a return. Even high demons from the abyss couldn't instill fear in a Goddess of Life priestess!

Felix paused but didn’t turn around. He looked at his unusually pale hands in the moonlight and said in a low voice, "I don’t know."

"Perhaps, I am an existence forgotten by time." Felix slowly clenched his pale hands, and a surge of Frost Power erupted from his body. Ice spread from his feet, instantly turning the entire backyard into a world of ice and snow.

"This!" Lydiana Anya's beautiful face showed uncontrollable shock. Ice had frozen the entire backyard's ground in a single breath, yet eerily avoided where they stood. There were no spells, no hand signs, just a simple clenching of a fist, and this terrifying Frost Power burst forth in an instant!

Lydiana Anya had never seen such a powerful force, not even in the eldest sages of the wood elves. Such a formidable power should belong to a legendary figure recorded in history!

Yet, in her memory, there was no mention of Felix among the legendary beings capable of traversing planes. Indeed, Felix had been recorded in the annals of history, but not in this world.

Felix entered his room, took off his clothes, and draped a cloak made of unique leather, marked by a sword wound over his heart, around his shoulders. He gently grasped the handle of the seemingly ordinary vine wood staff, feeling for the first time the elemental fluctuations on it. It was a powerful force!

Holding his belongings, Felix slowly stepped out of the room. He glanced at the elf mother and daughter still in shock, the giant bear druid, and the mysterious assassin. Without a word, he raised the vine wood staff.

A tremendous magical power flowed from the unassuming staff, and the ice in the backyard began to melt rapidly, disappearing as if everything before had been an illusion.

Grasping the staff that felt unusually familiar and dear, Felix walked slowly towards the exit of the courtyard. His steps were steady, each one almost identical in length.

"Why did you kill them?" Lydiana Anya suddenly asked as Felix reached the courtyard gate.

Without stopping, Felix continued with his unchanging pace, leaving the place until his figure disappeared into the vast night. A faint voice reached everyone's ears.

"They deserved to die."

Nayara watched Felix's receding figure, her affection for him seemingly overcoming the inexplicable fear in her heart. She opened her mouth to say something but was stopped by her mother.

"He is not from our world," Lydiana Anya said softly, shaking her head with a sigh.

As a mother, she was selfish. She didn't want her daughter living with someone so dangerously powerful. Felix, with his immense strength, still got hurt.

That fatal wound had once made her wonder how Felix had survived! Yes, someone with power beyond her reach, so strong yet so grievously injured to the point of losing his memory!

"Who could have hurt him in the past?"

The issues entangled with Felix's past were too vast and terrifying for Lydiana Anya. She was just a selfish mother, wanting only to see her daughter grow up safe and happy.

That's why she didn’t try to stop Felix from leaving, even preventing her daughter from doing so.

As she said, the Felix of now was too far from their simple lives. A person with such immense power could not lead a calm, ordinary life. His presence would eventually disrupt their current lives, even bringing disasters they couldn't change.

Like the one who had hurt him and caused his amnesia?

As a mother, Lydiana Anya had to protect her daughter rationally.

The night deepened.

Felix left Snowdrift Hollow, his steps unhesitating. He didn’t explain why he had killed those adventurers because it was unnecessary. When that terrifying power awakened within him, everything was predetermined. Like their fear...

He didn’t want to explain, for it would change nothing. With his nature, he wouldn’t bother to explain.

Because he now felt so close to his past self.

He decided to search for his lost memories, feeling everything was now within reach.

Of course, there was something he had to do before that.
