Chapter 10: The Brotherhood (Part Three)

Chapter 10: The Brotherhood (Part Three)

When Felix draped the Doom Robe over himself, he initially harbored doubts, but nothing untoward happened, turning his apprehension into a sense of playfulness.

Indeed, there was nothing out of the ordinary with the robe. On the contrary, the Doom Robe fit snugly and was very comfortable to wear.

Ah, and there was a pleasant fragrance too. Felix couldn't tell whether it emanated from the succubus sister or the enigmatic dark elf.

A legendary curse? Felix wasn't sure if it was real or exaggerated. However, once he donned the Doom Robe, he felt as if he had gained a new perspective.

Just a curse. Just a great demon's curse. The ultimate path for a spellcaster lies in the true eternity! In the laws and order, in becoming a being equal to the gods! If one fears a mere, possibly non-existent curse, how can one aspire to the path of the gods?

Yesterday's assassination attempt seemed to enlighten Felix. As he put on the Doom Robe, gritting his teeth, the words he whispered to himself were about life and death. Fear is natural, but timidity isn't the way of a real man!

This conviction led him to seek answers at the Saint Erde Cathedral from the middle-aged nun, rather than waiting for his wounds to fully heal before leaving Felendia.

After putting on the Doom Robe, Felix felt as if he had shattered a great fear, suddenly realizing it was nothing to worry about.

It was a strange feeling, but it helped him overcome his fear.

Saint Erde Cathedral, the prayer room, the secret chamber.

On his way to the Saint Erde Cathedral, Felix encountered no other dangers. However, while passing through a Gothic-style building area, he was stopped by a patrol of knights. After showing them the token given by Lady Elizabeth, he was courteously allowed to pass.

As the empire's chief financial advisor, supported by the military's emerging nobility, Lady Elizabeth was highly respected.

A woman who avenged her husband on the battlefield, known as the Thorny Rose for her iron-fisted methods, was enough to earn the respect and conqueror's desire of men.

Of course, to conquer the legendary Blood Rose, Lady Elizabeth, one must first get past the beautiful knight sister's two-handed sword!

Just thinking about that formidable woman, capable of crushing a Light Ranger's weapon single-handedly, Felix felt sorry for the noble knights harboring conquest fantasies, though he was unsure of the beautiful knight sister's strength. But at least, she must not be far from Lady Ireland's prowess.

Seeing Felix's stern face, the middle-aged nun showed surprise. Without asking him anything, she led him straight to a newly constructed secret chamber behind the prayer room of Saint Erde Cathedral.

The Dark Judgment Division's renovation plan was a massive undertaking. According to Felix's standards, it had to withstand an attack from three knight orders and a mage team for a full day!

So the middle-aged nun eagerly followed these standards, expanding the magic circle originally constructed by Lady Ireland by almost twice its size.

Felix placed two daggers, flickering with blue light and retrieved from mysterious assassins, on the table. Then, he took out a half of an Armor-Piercing Bolt that had been lodged in his body.

"I was ambushed by a mysterious assassin yesterday," Felix said calmly, as if the person assassinated wasn't him but someone nameless. He had a hunch that the middle-aged nun might provide a clue about the assassin's mention of 'God'.

The nun's face changed slightly upon hearing this. Her relationship with Felix had eased, partly due to his role in winning great prestige for the Notre Dame Cathedral by absorbing the plague among the refugees.

Without the previous hostility, Felix was now almost an ally to her, only half, because the young man before her belonged to Lady Ireland, a mad vampire.

She hated that woman, that madwoman. If it hadn't been for her orders, her niece, whom she loved like a daughter, wouldn't have died.

The nun picked up the daggers, smeared with a faint blue poison, and when her eyes fell on a symbol on the handle, her expression dramatically changed, exclaiming in surprise, "The Brotherhood!"

"The Brotherhood?" Felix was startled, following the nun's gaze to the dagger handle. There, a dark red glyph, barely noticeable, resembled a scorpion's tail. Had the nun not pointed it out, Felix would have assumed it was merely a grip pattern.

The nun, with a grave expression, set down the daggers and slowly recounted a story about an obscure organization – a group of devotees to the dark My Lord.

Originally just ordinary weavers, at some point, they felt the call of My Lord and formed a unique assassin organization, The Brotherhood.

"Acting upon My Lord's will, they eliminate those who disrupt the rules and balance."

This is the very essence of The Brotherhood's existence! This unique organization is unknown to the general public, with only a select few aware of their presence.

Although The Brotherhood venerates My Lord, they have no affiliation with the Holy See, as they more closely resemble an independent entity orchestrated by My Lord in the shadows.

The Brotherhood assassinates anyone disrupting the rules and balance as directed by My Lord, including nobles, knights, priests, dark magicians, and even the Pope!

According to the ancient covenants, gods cannot directly descend to the primary material plane, necessitating a proxy in the form of religion.

However, religions are not always reliable, leading to the need for a covert organization to oversee everything – and thus, The Brotherhood was born.

"Each target that appears in God's directive, The Brotherhood will attempt to assassinate a maximum of three times. If all three attempts fail, The Brotherhood will acknowledge them as a being compliant with the rules.

The assassination attempts will then cease!" The middle-aged nun slowly placed the dagger smeared with faint blue poison down, then spoke solemnly:

"The Brotherhood is a very special entity, beyond even the command of the Papal Chamber. With every failed assassination, The Brotherhood sends a more formidable assassin, continuing until either the three attempts are exhausted, or the target is deceased. You must be cautious!"
