Chapter 12: Project Abyssal Species

Chapter 12: Project Abyssal Species

This was Felix's sudden inspiration.

Since it was impossible to be on guard against assassins from the Brotherhood at all times, he decided to lure them into an environment that was advantageous for him, like the lake beneath Felendia.

With ample preparation, Felix believed that even if he faced a top-tier assassin from the Golden Domain, capable of stealth, he would still have a fighting chance, at least holding his ground for about ten minutes. And ten minutes was more than enough for Felix to make several escapes within Felendia!

At this point, the assassin from the Brotherhood would surely be in a dilemma!

Not pursue? Watching Felix escape without doing anything would be unbearable for any assassin.

Pursue?

The magical restrictions in Felendia were strong enough to counter a lower deity! Even the outer magical defense systems could withstand a knight from the highest order of the Titans Empire! Moreover, once the assassin entered Felendia’s territory, the succubus sisters could intervene!

A high-blooded succubus had strength comparable to a legendary warrior!

It was a risky yet highly feasible plan, testing the patience and resolve of the adversary. Once the assassin couldn't bear Felix escaping, they would fall right into the deadly trap Felix had set. Essentially, they would be lambs to the slaughter.

Felix was quite confident in his acting skills. As long as he convincingly appeared overpowered and sustained some non-fatal injuries, he couldn't believe that the top-tier assassin from the Brotherhood would easily give up on their nearly captured target!

In the following days, Felix started to set up his detailed fishing plan around the Lake of Clarity.

Such an obvious baiting plan, Felix believed, could not be hidden from those cunning assassins. But this was an open strategy. Take the bait or not, he was going to lure them in!

Felix was sure that those proud assassins couldn't resist his bait, and it was only a matter of time before they took it.

To ensure his own safety, Felix even set up several magical traps near the Lake of Clarity. These traps, like stasis and binding spells, were not very lethal but extremely effective in momentarily hindering enemy movement.

Afterwards, having completed his preparations, Felix began the training of his ogre combat servants.

The assassinations from the Brotherhood heightened Felix's sense of crisis, so he was now eager to transform all resources into more powerful forces.

According to his original plan, he intended to first modify this batch of ogre combat servants and then start the next phase of dark species modification when the next batch of live experimental materials arrived.

However, the Brotherhood's assassination accelerated Felix's Project Abyssal Species Modification.

Because, although the ogre combat servants were strong and explosive, they had obvious weaknesses. Their attacks were broad and sweeping, fine against others but of little use against professions like assassins, known for their high agility.

So, Felix decided to start the Project Abyssal Species Modification ahead of schedule!

The modification, inspired by the notes of the mysterious Gamma Mage, was akin to forcing a species to undergo an evolutionary process that would normally take hundreds, if not thousands, of years, by applying energy pressure.

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

The death rate of the dark species modification project was high, as the Gamma Mage's notes had few successful cases. The materials used for modification were mostly beastly creatures, and there were no records of ogres being used as materials.

Felix’s idea stemmed from the strong vitality shown by the first ogre combat servant. As one of the most vital humanoid creatures, the chances of successful modification for ogres might not be lower than those for magical beasts.

The three ogres were all imprisoned in the second layer of Felendia, each in a sturdy iron cage, watched over by two golden golems. Any unusual activity would immediately trigger the magical alarm system to alert Felix.

The Project Abyssal Species Modification was as rigorous as a modern scientific experiment. The caster needed to calculate a vast amount of data, monitor the experimental subject's changes around the clock, and devise corresponding contingency plans.

Felix, clad in a dark grey robe and wearing sealed gloves, was carefully mixing a dark red liquid in a crystal test tube, occasionally producing and bursting a few bubbles.

A blade ogre warrior and two warhammer ogres were imprisoned in sturdy cages. They had already been anesthetized by Felix with drugs, and even their consciousness was somewhat blurred due to Felix's mental assault.

Felix's first step was to inject a negative element liquid into these ogres. If they survived the initial fusion phase, it would be a half success.

The base material Felix chose was temporarily set as the blood of a mutated wolf-dog obtained from Deathbell Town. Since the blood of high demons was extremely precious, Felix decided to consider using it only after Project Abyssal Species Modification showed some progressive results.

The substance in his test tube was the blood of that half-undead, mutated wolf-dog, already diluted by Felix and stripped of its deadly plague elements.

The initial injection of a small amount of negative element was to observe how the ogres' bodies would react—whether their magical resistance would neutralize it or if a fusion-like devouring change would occur.

If these ogres survived this fusion test, Felix planned to increase the injection of negative elements and attempt to aid their assimilation process with magic and alchemical drugs. This was the first step in his blueprint for Project Abyssal Species Modification.

In species modification, the repulsion of elemental energy is a fundamental cause of failure. According to Felix’s hypothesis, if he could harness the Power of Pestilence from the dark grey crystal shards in the short term, the success rate of Project Abyssal Species Modification might increase by several percentage points.

The devouring nature of the Power of Pestilence was the strongest Felix had encountered, surpassing even the ice power of a death knight.

After preparing the blood in the test tube, Felix took out a syringe and began injecting it into the veins of the two warhammer ogres. He decided to temporarily hold off on experimenting with the blade ogre warrior, as that material was more precious and better used once the experiment showed progress.

After completing the blood dilution, Felix took out his magical notebook and began to record the entire process of this species modification experiment.

According to his plan, one ogre was injected with blood diluted four times, and the other with blood diluted twice. He then observed whether their bodies would reject or assimilate the negative energy.

Ten minutes passed.

As time went by, the ogres' bodies began to tremble noticeably. The intensity of their trembling increased, and they started to foam at the mouth, emitting unconscious cries of pain.

In this first phase of testing, Felix didn't intend to use magic to help the ogres combat the erosion of the negative elements. If they couldn't even assimilate diluted dark blood, these ogres were essentially sentenced to death.

In Felix’s plan, the ultimate fusion material was the corrupt blood of higher demons, richer and more corrosive in negative elements. What Felix was doing now was increasing the ogres' resistance to negative elements, gradually acclimatizing their bodies to the erosion, and then evolving a system to assimilate it.

Twenty minutes later, the ogre injected with blood diluted four times began to stabilize. Its robust constitution finally came into play, its high-strength, resilient cells, and active energy neutralizing the diluted dark blood.

Thirty minutes later, the ogre injected with blood diluted twice also began to stabilize, successfully enduring the test.

After recording the duration and bodily changes of the two ogres, Felix left the lab, changed clothes, and headed to the Lake of Clarity for fishing.

This testing process would continue for a week. During this time, Felix planned to gradually increase the ogres' resistance to negative elements until they could withstand undiluted dark blood.

Yes, Felix was actually fishing, holding a fishing rod, waiting for those "fish" willing to take the bait.
