CHAPTER 968 LEAVING SPIRITUAL PASTURE VALLEY
"Did the altar just self-destruct? Or maybe it finally collapsed because of the ancient spiritual beast that
had been here for all these years." The female voice behind the curtain hesitated for a moment after
Alyssa spoke, and she sounded a little surprised. She asked hesitantly, "Where is the ancient spiritual
beast now?"
"It fell into the abyss together with the altar," Alyssa replied and cast a quick glance at Rocky at the
same time.
"Did it?" She sounded even more puzzled. The altar had been there for a long time, and yet nothing
happened to it. So what prompted its self-destruction so abruptly? It was a question that she could not
figure out.
Seeing her confusion, Alyssa nodded her head solemnly. Although she felt sorry for lying to her
grandma, she had no choice in the matter. She didn't want to get Rocky involved, so it was worth the
risk.
"Then, I will report to the patriarch what I heard from you." The confusion in her voice was gone to
Alyssa's relief. It seemed that she trusted Alyssa enough to believe whatever she said. Alyssa was
both pleased and wracked with guilt.
"Grandma, do you have any advice for me? What should I do?" Alyssa asked, blinking her beautiful
eyes innocently.
"Young man, can you wait outside for a moment?" The voice behind the curtain said to Rocky this time.
Rocky shrugged his shoulders casually, but he threw a questioning glance at Alyssa. When she
inclined her head in a subtle nod, he turned around and walked out.
"My dear, I have checked all the secret manuals of the spiritual race, but I haven't found any other way
to remove the curse. I'm afraid that it is the only way..." The voice from behind the curtain trailed off and
released a sorrowful sigh.
"Is that the only way?" Alyssa's eyes darkened. If that was the only way, she would have to make a
decision soon.
"My dear, please do what your heart tells you to do. Don't push yourself too hard. It might not be a good
thing for you to become a member of the spiritual race. No one can promise you anything!" The voice
spoke in a soft and comforting tone as if it was a mother pacifying her child.
"Are you saying that I should just live my life as a normal human woman? I don't think so. You know I
can't do that!" Alyssa replied with a bitter smile.
"It's hard to say, my dear. Some time ago, you believed that no one in this world can remove the curse
on you, didn't you? But do you see what faith had planned for you? You finally found him. What's more,
I can see that you care about him very much." The voice behind the curtain seemed to see through
whatever was happening between Alyssa and Rocky, but of course, Alyssa was deep in denial.
She snorted and stamped her foot heavily in protest, thankful that the light was dim enough to hide her
flushed cheeks. "Please, grandma! Who cares about him? Not me!"
"Whether you care about him or not, you are the one who knows it best. Do not deny your heart, my
dear. If he is really the one in your destiny, maybe you can give up everything that you care about now,
all for a beautiful future with him... Who knows! Remember my words. Follow your own heart! But now,
it is time for you to go back." The voice behind the curtain sounded distant, as it hinted Alyssa to leave.
It was as if she had turned her attention elsewhere now.
"Okay. I'm leaving, grandma. I'll come back to see you again when I can." Without saying anything
more, Alyssa bowed before the curtain respectfully and left.
After walking out of the tree house, Alyssa was met with the sight of Rocky, who was standing outside
with his hands behind his back and looking into the distance. It seemed that he was lost in his thoughts.
"It's time to go back. Let's go," Alyssa called out distractedly. The conversation between her and her
grandma still lingered at the back of her mind. At that moment, her mind was filled with a hailstorm of
thoughts. She looked down on the ground and took a deep breath.
"It seems that your grandma didn't bring you any good news," Rocky remarked when he turned around
and saw the bitterness on Alyssa's face.
She didn't bother answering. She just looked at him balefully, still hearing her grandma's voice in her
head, and called out her spiritual beast. She jumped on its back as soon as it was close enough, while
Rocky jumped behind her, shaking his head. At that moment, he was puzzled by her foul mood, as he
thought about how difficult it was to read her moods. He really didn't know how to get along with this
woman. She could be smiling one moment and frowning at the next. He could not help but wonder
what her grandma said to put her into such a tizzy.
Silent as a grave, the two of them left the Spiritual Pasture Valley riding the spiritual beast.
Half a day later, they arrived at the Cao Mansion. Alyssa dropped Rocky at the gate and left without
speaking a word to him.
He watched as she disappeared from his sight with a confused frown, for he was still in the dark on
why she was acting so weird. He shook his head when she disappeared from his sight, shaking away
the thought of her that lingered in his head. After all, he should not think of it as a big deal. Women
were sentimental.
Rocky walked inside to find Lucilla first, and he immediately found her dealing with the clan's affairs in
the Magnificent Hall. A brilliant smile lit up her face as soon as she spotted Rocky. With a bit of
impatience, she nodded at the clerk who was discussing with her, hurriedly dismissing him.
"You are back! Did everything go well?" Lucilla asked softly when they were alone. She had risen from
the chair, and Rocky could not help but watch, as she sashayed toward him. After that night, she had
figured out how to get along with Rocky. She decided that from that night forward, she would be
treating Rocky as normally as she could. Thus, she received him naturally when they met again at this
moment, and she acted as if she was nothing but a young lady of a big noble family.
"Everything went well. I guess nothing has happened since I left, right?" Rocky asked, nodding slightly.
"Yes. It's very strange. After that day, the Qi Clan suddenly became quiet, and I haven't heard any
movements from them. It was weird." Lucilla shook her head with a confused expression. She had
thought that the Qi Clan wouldn't give up easily after being humiliated on her birthday, and they would
surely take revenge. However, they didn't cause any trouble at all in the past few days that Rocky was
away. She was afraid that they were just lulling them into a sense of peace, so she could not relax
completely.
"I'm afraid that it's just the silence before the storm. I think Geoffrey and the Qi Clan may be plotting
something big in secret. So, please take more care, Chief Lucilla. Keep a close eye on them, and don't
let them take advantage of loopholes again," Rocky reminded carefully. The truth was that he was
getting tired of cleaning the Cao Clan's mess. Every time he gave them a hand, it would cause a lot of
trouble for him. There was also the risk of his secret identity being exposed because of them.
"I will, thank you. But I'm more worried about you, Mr. Rookie. As far as I know, Tate will try everything
he can to exact his revenge on you. You need to be careful too," Lucilla said worriedly.
Rocky snorted dismissively. He didn't see that guy as a threat to him at all. "I'm waiting for him. Let's
see what he can do!"
Seeing this confused Lucilla though, for she did not understand where his confidence was coming from.
She thought that he was still weaker than Tate. If Tate wanted to kill him, he would undoubtedly plan it
well, so shouldn't he be anxious? Of course, she had no idea that Rocky had become a master of the
Supernal Stage in the three days that he was away. He was far stronger than Tate now.
"I think I should send a few masters of our clan to protect you, Mr. Rookie. They can guard you against
any attacks," Lucilla suggested after thinking for a while.
"No, thanks. I don't need any protection, but if you, the Chief of the Cao Clan, want to protect me in
person, then I can think about it!" Rocky refused at once, but he also deliberately chose to tease her.
He knew that Lucilla couldn't protect him since she was way too busy.
"Please stop teasing me! You know I'm too occupied with the clan affairs, but I do want to protect you This content belongs to NĂ´/velDra/ma.Org .
personally! How about that? I'll ask my younger sister to stay around you. Then she can learn the
Beast Curing Skill from you, and protect you at the same time," Lucilla suggested this time. She
grumbled a bit at the start because she felt that he was not taking her seriously, but her eyes showed
that she was eager and sincere.
"Your younger sister? There is no need for that, I assure you. I can't afford it! In fact, I think I will be
safer if she's not around!" Rocky hurriedly shook his head with a bitter smile.
