CHAPTER 926 MEETING LANEY AGAIN
"She is the owner of this house now. It would surprise her to see you here," Woods said playfully.
"Wait! I thought you wanted me to keep a low profile. The fewer people who know who I am, the better,
isn't it?" Rocky asked, confused at Woods' sudden suggestion.
"You're right, of course. At present, not only is the Qi Clan keeping an eye on you, but several princes holds © this.
are also inquiring about you everywhere they go. To prevent them from learning your true identity, I
suppose it's necessary for her to know who you really are," Woods explained his reasoning.
"Then, what is your plan?" Rocky asked with a quirked brow.
"Haven't you noticed there's a difference between this place and other whorehouses?" Woods
recounted with a smile.
Rocky scowled, understanding why Woods had brought him here.
"Stop looking at me like that! Yes, this is not just a whorehouse for dignitaries and distinguished people
to have fun. It is an important stronghold Alyssa set up to collect information, similar to what we had in
Evian City. The difference is that the clients here are our own people," Woods lowered his voice while
looking around.
"Therefore, it's necessary for her to know what's going on. Then she will pay extra attention when
people talk about you. We can learn who is interested in you and who is investigating you," Woods
elaborated.
His words sounded reasonable. Rocky had attracted a tremendous amount of attention in the Timber
Deity Empire. People tended to regard him as one of the Cao Clan after he helped them defeat the Qi
Clan and hold on to the seat of first clan in the Timber Deity Empire. In many people's eyes, Rocky was
too important to the clan. If anyone were looking for trouble or planned on defeating the clan, they had
to know more about Rocky first.
In other words, Rocky's situation was more precarious than he had initially thought. Especially after the
Timber Deity Empire's emperor announced that he would be choosing one of the princes to be his
successor. Although the Cao Clan had yet to plead their support to a particular prince, the princes
would inevitably seek them out to win them over.
"I see. But I don't think it's a good idea for her to see me now." Rocky shook his head with a bitter
smile. If Woods learned that his relationship with that woman was much closer than that he was aware
of, he would reconsider.
A sudden uproar sounded from downstairs, followed by heavy footsteps. Both of them turned around
and saw a tall, fat arrogant looking figure rampantly appear at the stairway at the top of the stairs on
the second floor. Behind him stood several Heavenly Stage masters.
"What a coincidence. He has come here too. Is it possible that he is looking for you?" Woods
whispered in Rocky's ear, his brows furrowed in surprise.
It was none other than his oldest brother, Algy.
Algy didn't fail to take notice of Woods either. His eyes darkened as they met his brother's. He had
already learned that the mysterious beast master from the Cao Clan had defeated his Ghost Lion. Not
only that, that beast master was also close to his younger brother Woods. Though, in all fairness, he
hadn't come here for his brother. He hadn't even known Woods was here.
Unfortunately, one couldn't really avoid his enemy. Sooner or later they'd run into each other.
"Glad to see you here, Woods." Algy tried to appear pleasantly surprised, but the twitching muscles on
his face betrayed his true feelings.
"Nice to see you too, brother. I'm glad to see you here. What a coincidence!" Woods said as he stood
up and walked to Algy, the smile on his face not genuine either.
"Indeed. It seems that we must catch up. A moment ago, your friend, the mysterious beast master from
the Cao Clan, killed my Ghost Lion in the beast arena. I believe that you witnessed it yourself. I
expected him to pull his punches. After all, he's your friend and you're my brother. You should have
reminded him that when in Rome, one must do as the Romans do!" Algy studied Rocky, who remained
seated.
Rocky didn't even bat an eyelid under his gaze, irking Algy's ire. It was even worse to be ignored. He
felt absolutely humiliated.
"Oh, please! It was nothing but a spirit-manipulated beast. I believe you of all people could afford to
lose one or two of them anyway, Algy," Woods teased him, refusing to give up the chance to push
Algy's buttons.
"You're right. I've always wanted to replace that useless beast. It was good for it to die like that," Algy
snorted, salvaging a little of his pride. The fact was, the death of the Ghost Lion would cost him a lot of
money. The more he thought about it, the more his face turned grim.
"It's good to hear you say that. Otherwise, I really wouldn't have known how to show my regret. Are you
here for the music then?" Woods grinned as he smoothly changed the topic.
"No. Music was never my cup of tea. I'm here to have a few drinks with Laney. Did someone tell her I'm
here?" Algy yelled loudly, deliberately letting everyone in this building hear him.
The melodious sound coming from behind the curtain abruptly stopped. The curtain was gently lifted
and a delicate figure walked out, elegant and graceful. The air in her wake was heavy with the aroma of
a special fragrance.
It was the woman Rocky and Woods had talked about a moment ago. The one Alyssa had sent to
Evian City to collect information, only to return like a drowned mouse after Rocky had revealed her true
identity.
After both the Timber Deity Empire and the Holy Dragon Empire had called a truce, Laney had returned
to the capital with Alyssa. Under the princess's instruction, she had opened this place to collect
information for the princess in secret. That was why she was here to begin with.
"Oh, Your Royal Highness! Laney Pavilion welcomes every client who comes here to have fun. Please
don't make things hard for me. How about you take a seat and listen to the music first?" Laney's sweet
words reached their ears before she appeared. After a quick glance at Woods, she schooled her
expression to one of pathetic adoration as she faced Algy.
From the looks of it, the ploy worked well on Algy. His eyes lit up, and he flashed a lascivious smile.
"Oh, please excuse my rudeness. I shall pay more attention to my words the next time. I wouldn't want
to offend you. But you must promise to have dinner with me tonight and after that, we can enjoy each
other's company."
Laney mentally rolled her eyes. Even though she didn't want to, it was her job. Besides, she was very
familiar with the oldest prince's temper. If she refused, it would inevitably cause trouble. Therefore, she
stole a glance at Woods before responding to Algy. "Laney, I want to introduce you to a friend of mine,"
Woods cut in.
"Really? And who would that be?" Laney asked softly.
Woods immediately stepped aside and turned to look at Rocky, who was still sitting on the chair.
Laney felt her heart miss a beat when she caught the familiar face. Not only did she have a hard time
forgetting it, she dreamed of this face every night when she went to sleep. Now he was here, under the
same roof, smiling at her.
"Oh!" She exclaimed, unable to find the proper words to say, fixing her wide-opened eyes on that man.
"Laney, I'm afraid you're busy now. It would be rude for you to neglect your client like that!" Algy
interrupted, too impatient to have this beauty upon in his arms.
Laney, on the other hand, acted as if she hadn't heard him. She headed towards Rocky and stopped
right in front of his table, running her eyes over him from head to toes. To everyone's surprise, she bent
over and reached out a hand to touch his face, as if she wanted to make sure whether he was real.
