CHAPTER 283 A BREAKTHROUGH
The oceans and seas welcomed countless rivers to attain greatness. And in this vast universe, Rocky
felt so small and insignificant. But at the same time, he also felt relaxed, happy and enlightened. With
this feeling, he felt unfettered like an eagle flying in the sky. He enjoyed the feeling of freedom that
flying through the air made him feel.
Even Verdanim was ecstatic to be back in the sky. Its injury chained it to the ground for a long time. It
felt its spirit was free once more as it stretched itself to embrace as much of the sky as it could while it
sped through the clouds. Its wound was healed but it still needed to be careful to complete its recovery.
Verdanim truly appreciated that Rocky saved it and nursed it back to health. It flew with Rocky without
a care in what was happening in the world below. They flew like they were one with the clouds and the
air above. After some time, they flew back in the vicinity of the northeast military camp. Like a glider
they circled the air above and descended slowly.
An army of several thousand soldiers approached the northeast military camp. Rocky and Verdanim
made one pass overhead at the approaching army and landed on the battlefield in front of the military
camp.
"Verdanim? It's you!" Marin jumped down from her horse and rushed towards Verdanim. Verdanim
could barely stand the last time Marin saw it. Three months later, Verdanim flew once more. No one,
but the owner of Verdanim, could imagine how truly happy Marin was!
As Marin approached Verdanim, she was surprised when she saw a man climbed off Verdanim's back.
Marin took a close look and was taken completely by surprise.
The man was none other than Rocky! content rights.
Rocky did not expect Marin to be back so soon. He never expected that Marin would see him get down
from Verdanim either. Now he needed to explain how he ended up riding Verdanim.
Not only Marin was surprised by the event that unfolded before her, but also the soldiers who watched
Rocky get down from the back of Verdanim. Everyone watched with disbelief, and all of a sudden, they
fell into silence.
It was known to all that Verdanim was not an ordinary spirit-manipulated beast. Only a royal spirit
manipulator with dragon spiritual power could ride it. But above it all, Verdanim was a war dragon
owned by Marin. Even another royal spirit manipulator would not be able to ride it. Even less likely was
an ordinary spirit manipulator.
One look at Rocky and everyone who saw him concluded that he and Verdanim flew together for some
time before landing. They wondered how Rocky managed to fly Verdanim. Had he discovered a secret
method to control Verdanim? How did he do it? How was it even possible?
"Well..." Rocky stuttered. He did not know how to begin to explain the situation to Marin. Rocky and
Marin stared at each other and stood still in silence as the other soldiers watched.
Marin wore her usual expression, passed by Rocky and approached Verdanim. Verdanim was
overjoyed at the sight of Marin. It raised its head and roared loudly. It then lowered its head and
brushed it gently on Marin's cheek as Marin caressed Verdanim's head all the way down to its neck.
"At long last you are ok!" Marin felt relieved and happy as a sweet smile crossed her lovely face.
"Verdanim was able to land on the ground safely. I suppose its injured leg has recovered enough. Two
days more and it will be back to full health," Rocky said. Rocky was surprised that Marin did not ask
him how he could fly Verdanim.
"Thank you!" Marin said with a sincerely grateful expression on her face.
"I now hand it over to you. My mission is finally over." Rocky smiled upon seeing Marin so happy.
Although he felt glad that his nanny days were over and he would now have more time for his work in
the lab, he couldn't help but feel that he would miss the time that he spent with Verdanim.
The large group of beasts that lingered outside the beast stables saw Rocky approach the military
camp. They all got up and met Rocky at the battlefield. The beasts all seemed very happy to see Rocky
as if he had been gone for months when it was a mere few minutes ago when he was with them.
Everyone was surprised to see the beasts, bandages wrapped on various parts of their bodies where
they were injured. But they were full of life and looked very happy. They were all supposed to be
abandoned a long time ago because of their serious or critical injuries.
"Isn't that my beast? It was badly injured and I didn't think that it would recover..."
"That is my beast, isn't it? Ohh! Its feet were broken. It can't run nor walk when I last saw it. But look at
it now, it can move around as normal. That is just amazing!"
"Oh my god, my beast is here, too..."
The spirit manipulators screamed with joy as they dashed towards their beasts.
The spirit-manipulated beasts turned towards their owners and were reunited with them. The spirit
manipulators hugged their beasts. They were their closest friend and companion in battle and they
shared life or death everywhere. It was an emotional reunion between masters and beasts!
"Did you save all of them?" Marin was so surprised, amazed and happy all at the same time that she
just had to ask Rocky.
"I didn't really intend to save them. But I was too bored and decided to help them to kill the time. If I
was too busy, I would not have the time to do all this," Rocky said without emotion. He then nodded at
Marin and started to walk into the camp.
"Just kill the time. Is that really true? Or, you are actually a man who is nice to all spirit-manipulated
beasts..." Marin said as she watched the figure who slowly disappeared into the military camp. Marin
smiled to herself as she found it interesting that Rocky decided to hide his true intentions and
downplayed the magnitude of what he had done.
Rocky walked straight to the lab.
"I did not expect for Marin to be back so soon. It was lucky that she did not ask too many questions. Or
I wouldn't know how to answer them all!" Rocky grumbled to himself. But he was afraid that Marin
wouldn't simply let the thing pass easily. He was convinced that she would soon find the right time to
question him about it. The issue with the northern sky military camp was settled when Rocky made a
deal with Marin that he would do one request from her. But Marin had not requested anything yet. He
felt uneasy because he did not know if Marin would get back at him or make him dance wearing only
an apron. He would never do such a thing!
He felt that seeing Marin was problematic. She was the Commander while he was nothing more than a
beast breeder. If she became unhappy with him, he would have an extremely bad day. He tried to avoid
Marin, but always met her accidentally. And every time they met, Rocky always did something that
surprised her.
'"Forget it. I will think of this later. I need to focus on my research," Rocky sighed.
Since the war started three months ago, Rocky became extremely busy between the lab and the
military camp. Some of his researches were on track while two of them were in the critical stage.
One of the topics that he was researching was how to have two spirit-manipulated beasts at the same
time. Rubygon was no longer a young beast as before. One month ago, Rubygon reached adulthood
and became more ferocious. For a beast above three stars, if it didn't consider you as its master, it was
hard to ride it.
Fortunately, before Rubygon matured, Rocky had already spent a lot of time with it, and tamed it.
Rubygon had accepted Rocky as a master before becoming fully grown.
Rubygon grew up with Rocky as a master. He had gotten used to receiving orders from Rocky and was
pleased to be his mount.
Rocky's research on how to ride a spirit-manipulated beast that you didn't own had had a breakthrough.
