Chapter 638 In the Dark

CHAPTER 638 IN THE DARK

Alyssa did not realize that Rocky and his troops outsmarted them. She thought they were just slow,

when truth was that the vanguard troops led by Isis were merely buying time. The Crimson Dragon

Army had studied their movements and knew that most forces of the Timber Deity Empire would gather

on the right wing to launch an attack. Hence, they took their time until Rocky entered the Misty Plain

and it was too late for the Timber Deity Empire to mobilize forces by then.

In other words, the Crimson Dragon Army was purposely led into the Dragon Tiger Road. The

vanguard troops who started the attack were merely a bait to lure them in.

Day two into the Misty Plain, Rocky and his troops received information from a member of the Elite

Regiment. It revealed their enemy's patrol route.

"If we take this road, we might meet the patrol of the Timber Deity Empire." Louis looked up from the

map and into the ominous path ahead of them. His eyebrows furrowed.

Rocky and Allen exchanged glances.

"What do you suggest?" Rocky asked Louis. They needed to think of ways to be sneakier. They

couldn't risk being seen by the patrol.

"The Misty Plain is too open. We may not be able to hide from the patrol forever," Louis said. "I can

think of only one way but it might be too risky."

"Tell us," pleaded Rocky.

"The Timber Deity Empire only has one patrol roaming the area with thick mist. We can pass through

the thick mist to avoid it. We need to be careful. It would be a big trouble for us if we are to be spotted,"

reminded Louis.

"Allen, what do you think?" Rocky asked looking at Allen.

"We don't have much choice but to try it. Otherwise, we have to abandon our whole plan," Allen

answered.

"Commander Marin," Rocky called out. "Tell the whole army that we will be changing directions." Rocky

gestured towards the direction of the troops.

Marin accepted and promptly left to deliver the message.

Soon, Rocky and his troops found themselves advancing towards the area with thick mist.

As soon as the sun set, the darkness became almost unbearable. The whole of Misty Plain was

covered with mist so dark and thick that a flame could only light up a meter or two around it. Eventually,

the troop reached the area covered by thick mist. Everyone felt like they lost their ability to see. They

could barely recognize each other even if they stood face to face.

To properly navigate the space, Rocky asked his troops to walk in a straight long line with a few torches

lit up.

"Commander in Chief, there's something ahead of us," a spirit manipulator informed Rocky.

"Put out all the torches and stand where you are," Rocky ordered at once.

The troops quickly put their light out and quietly moved through the dark mist.

A few steps into it, Rocky saw more than ten torches walking towards them.

"That might be the patrol," Allen guessed.

"Should we go ahead and kill them?" Marin asked Rocky.

"No, we can't do that. They are expected to go back to their camp and report in time. If they don't

return, people would get suspicious," Rocky said in a low whisper.

"What should we do then?" Marin asked, frowning.

"We have to distract them," Rocky answered.

"If we are going to do that, then we better be sure they won't be able to tell that we are spirit

manipulators," Allen said with a worried look on his face.

"Isn't it a bit too dark to try to go through the mist to distract them? We might lose our troops who would

attempt to approach them," Louis added.

"I have a plan. Allen, please lead the troops. I'll distract the patrol. I'll see you at our destination.

Nothing will change," Rocky ordered.

"Do you plan to approach them? Why not let me do it?" Allen figured it shouldn't be the job of the

Commander in Chief to distract a patrol. Besides, it would put him in a vulnerable position. They could

not risk losing Rocky.

"No one is more suitable than me. Don't worry." Rocky assured Allan with a soft smile.

"If you insist." Allen felt comforted by Rocky's confidence.

As Rocky was leaving, someone grabbed his arm. It was Marin and she looked worried.

"Be careful," Marin said with a crack in her voice. "Well," she added quickly as she let go of Rocky's

arm. "Isis wanted you to know that."

Rocky smiled curtly and then walked away. As he walked towards the torches, he realized he was

making a bit noise. He quickly detoured and took a different direction.

"Did you hear that? Let's check it out," someone standing near the flickering fire said. Then, all the

shadows moved quickly then disappeared into the distance.

"March forward," Allen ordered the troops as soon as he realized that Rocky had successfully

distracted the patrol.

They spent the entire night marching at full speed through the Misty Plain. owns this text.

Rocky continued running a few meters until he realized the patrol was still away from him behind. He

then opened his Magic Spiritual Space and summoned a wild spirit-manipulated beast. He broke one of

its legs and threw it on the ground. Afterwards, he summoned Rainbow Glow Unicorn and disappeared

by means of it.

The patrol quickly reached Rocky's previous spot, but they only saw an injured wild spirit-manipulated

beast and quickly returned to their camp, seemingly with no suspicion.

Overhead, Rocky was silently following the patrol.

Upon sunrise, Allen and the troops finally arrived at their destination. It was a space large enough to

hide three thousand soldiers, but safe enough from the camp of the enemy. It was the end of the Misty

Plain two miles away from the Timber Deity Empire's camp.

Fortunately, the mist was a lot thinner where they were. They could clearly see the scene from a

distance.

Oddly enough, Rocky still hadn't shown up.

"Why hasn't he come yet? Did anything happen to him?" Marin said anxiously.

"Let's wait," Allen said. He was trying to be calm so as not to cause panic.

Around noon time, a figure appeared from the distance.

"What took you so long?" Marin ran towards the figure and let out a huge sigh of relief.

Finally, Rocky was safe.
