CHAPTER 296 A STUBBORN MAN

"Is that another compliment, Deputy Commander in Chief?" Rocky said with a sly smile. He now

believed that Isis somehow thought highly of him.

purpose and then stared at the two women.

forward towards Rocky in anticipation of Rocky's revelation.

"I'm the future emperor of the Holy Dragon Empire," Rocky answered with a snobbish look.

"If you are the future emperor, then I am the future empress! Now stop talking crazy," Isis replied. She

took Rocky's answer as another one of his jokes. She suddenly blushed as she realized that if she was

to be the future empress then it was like she was saying that she would be Rocky's future wife.

"Ha-ha-ha! I am not sure if you truly want to be my future empress. But since Deputy Commander in

Chief brought it up, I will definitely consider it seriously," Rocky laughed loudly.

"Why you!" Isis replied in anger. Her lips trembled in anger, but more because it was her who got

herself into this predicament than because of Rocky's witty retort.

"Calm down Isis! He is just being absurd again. Are you really taking what he said seriously?" Marin

said softly to calm Isis down.

"Well, you are right! That was just another one of his jokes." Isis blushed as her anger evaporated into

thin air. The stoic Isis that Rocky was used to seeing was not the same Isis who was before him right

now.

"You do not believe me?" What Rocky said was closer to the truth than the ladies realized. Sooner or

later, he would have to return to the Palace City, ascend to the throne and take back everything. Rocky

told them the truth because the truth about him was crazier than the fiction that they expected to hear.

"Right! Who would be stupid enough to actually believe that? If you truly would become our emperor,

the whole country would be in flames. Give us some credit, will you? We are not that stupid. Make up

another story that is more convincing, little liar," Isis replied with indifference. She looked at Rocky as if

he was just another cocky man. But she could not see through Rocky's veil of mystery. This made her

crazy curious about him.

"I told you the truth and yet you do not believe it. That is no longer my fault," Rocky replied with one

eyebrow raised in jest.

Isis and Marin stared at each other. They were convinced that it was impossible to get a straight

answer from Rocky so they decided to leave it at that. However, they had another reason for bringing

Rocky here.

"Rocky, listen to me very closely. The situation you are in right now is a little sticky. My father admires

your talents so much that he wants to promote you. But you refused him last time. My father is a

stubborn man. He never gives up easily once he sets his eyes on something. What makes it worse is

that the details about your identity is highly confidential at the headquarters and this makes him want to

know even more about who you really are. Expect that my father will not spare any resource to get

what he wants. That means you will find it hard to get away from him. And to tell you the truth, my

father organized this contest for you," Isis explained as her words caught Rocky off guard.

"For me?" Rocky replied back in complete shock. He never expected that Lance would go so far as to

hold a tournament just for him.

"Yes. That's right. He wants to see the true extent of your skills and potential," Isis answered with a

serious tone.

"Whoa! I didn't realize how determined Commander in Chief can be," Rocky replied with a helpless

smile. He felt flattered and intimidated at the same time.

"In the first round of the contest, you already revealed the true extent of your fighting skills against

Evan. If you pretended to lose to Evan, then maybe father would change his mind. But now the die is

cast. Your fate is carved in stone. Father will do anything so he can promote you to be his subordinate

working at the headquarters," Isis said seriously.

"So all this was planned! I should have fought like a weakling!" Rocky replied.

"If you knew my father's plan beforehand, would you really fight like a weakling? Can you really bring

yourself to lose?" Isis asked suddenly.

Rocky froze at Isis' words. She struck a note that echoed Rocky's weakness. Rocky was not the type of

person who would just let things pass. As soon as he found out that Evan was to be his opponent, he

lost his marbles and decided to teach Evan a lesson and avenge himself. He could not possibly let

such an opportunity to pass him by.

"Have you even wondered why your first opponent was Evan?" Isis asked.

"Is it because..." Rocky started to say something but stopped in mid-sentence. He suddenly realized

something that he failed to see before.

"Yes, my father arranged everything. He knows what Evan did to you. And he assumed that you would

fight at your full strength if Evan was to be your opponent. And my father was right," Isis explained.

"Commander in Chief is so clever!" Rocky realized that he had underestimated Lance completely.

Before he even suspected anything, he was already deep in Lance's trap.

"Now that you know what kind of person my father is, you know that he will never give up until he gets

what he wants," Isis said while staring straight into Rocky with her mesmerizing eyes.

"Why are you telling me this? You are his daughter. Shouldn't you be on his side? Aren't you worried

that I will quit the competition now that I know of your father's plan?" Rocky asked with caution as he

tried to figure out the reason behind Isis' revelation.

"Do you really think that it still matters now whether you know the truth or not? Now that you know the

lengths that my father would go to get what he wants, it would be in your best interest to stop resisting

against what he wants. I know you are not the type of person who'd simply agree to what other people

want. That is why I told you about my father's plan. Because you cannot win against my father. And if

you were not my cousin's favorite subordinate, I would not bother telling you this. It's none of my

business," Isis taunted.

"Who said that he is my favorite? He is not my favorite at all!" Marin said, trying to contradict what Isis

said about her.

"Rocky, save yourself the trouble and just agree to the promotion. You can't change the mind of

Commander in Chief at this point. It will be totally worth your while anyway. You know you cannot

withstand the consequences of going against Commander in Chief." Marin tried to convince Rocky. Isis'

words brought a different realization for her, and she began worrying for Rocky.

She also knew her uncle very well. If Rocky managed to get Lance mad, the resulting backlash would

not be something that anyone could survive.
