CHAPTER 280 WHO WAS PRETTIER
Rocky knew he had a problem in his hands when he saw the group of spirit manipulators gathered
around him. He turned to Sheridan and said, "I think I need to excuse myself for the day!" He made a
quick leap into the air after he spoke and landed nimbly at the rear of the group. He then moved quickly
across the beast farm and disappeared.
The spirit manipulators present stared at each other in disbelief after Rocky's escape. But they were
not the types who gave up easily. They nodded at each other knowing completely what to do. Then
they rushed towards Rocky's last direction en masse.
"Ha-ha-ha! Hey boy, have a good time!" Sheridan smiled as he watched the group of spirit
manipulators chased after Rocky. He felt a tinge of guilty pleasure seeing Rocky's discomfort.
Rocky never expected that the spirit manipulators would run after him. He suddenly felt an odd sense
of urgency and he ran even faster that left a small cloud of dust across the military camp grounds.
The spirit manipulators who chased Rocky drew closer every minute. Rocky was unable to shake them
off. A few of Rocky's pursuers were smart enough to cut his escape. Thus, they blocked the camp gate.
They accurately deduced that Rocky would likely try to escape the military camp. And it would be Content held by .
impossible to catch up to him once he was outside the military camp.
'Holy crap!' Rocky exclaimed to himself. He suddenly dreaded the possibility of getting caught. That
meant that he would be bored for the rest of the day. He scanned the area for a means of losing his
pursuers and he saw the flags that flew in the air. The Commander's quarters! A crazy idea formed in
his mind and he grabbed it without hesitation. He decided to break into the Commander's quarters.
Rocky passed by unnoticed. The guards looked at each other, puzzled, as the sensation of a passing
wind brushed past them.
Rocky made great progress in the past few weeks for he was able to improve by two to three grades
compared to where he was three months ago.
Rocky's pursuers stopped as they approached the Commander's quarters. They dared not enter. They
knew that any uninvited entry into the Commander's quarters was tantamount to trespassing with a
punishment that was just as severe. They found it hard to believe that Rocky entered the Commander's
quarters just to evade them. Although they worried about the consequences of Rocky's reckless
decision, they did not want to get in trouble themselves and immediately left the vicinity of the
Commander's quarters.
Rocky observed every move that his pursuers made as soon as he was safe inside the Commander's
quarters. He felt relieved when he saw his pursuers dispersed. At almost the same time, Rocky
suddenly became aware of a pair of eyes that quietly and intently stared at his back. He turned slowly
and his eyes were immediately lost in the beautiful pair of eyes that stared back at him unwaveringly.
The eyes of Marin. A faint smile crossed her lips as she continued to stare at Rocky with arms crossed.
Rocky felt his heart skipped a beat as he felt himself unable to break his stare. Marin's beauty always
captivated him whatever the situation.
"I sincerely apologize for the unannounced visit. I can't believe I lost my mind. I missed a turn and went
into the wrong camp!" Rocky never considered Marin as anything but a friend. He explained with the
first words that came to mind for it was true that he wouldn't come here uninvited unless it was a dire
emergency. Rocky knew that his pursuers were no longer waiting for him outside so he started to move
towards the door of the Commander's quarters. But before he could reach the door, he was held back
by Marin's words. "It is good that you are here. It saved me from having to send someone to go and
bring you here. I did not expect you to arrive at just the right time. Have a seat! We need to talk. Or
more accurately, I need to ask you something!"
Rocky stared at Marin's beautiful face and wondered to himself why he never developed any feelings
for her. He swallowed hard as Marin's words brought images in his mind that made him feel uneasy. He
cleared his throat and then spoke, "What do you want to talk about, Marin? If you want to talk about
Verdamin, can we have that conversation some other time because I'm busy today?" He quickly
believed that the only reason Marin wanted a conversation with him was about Verdamin.
"No, it is about something else. It is not about Verdamin," Marin replied as she gently shook her head
and her face turned grim.
"If it is about the thing happened that night, I promise I will keep that a secret. You don't have to worry!"
Rocky was caught off guard at the sight of Marin's grim countenance. He started to think of all the
different possible topics that Marin would want to talk to him about at that point.
"No. Wrong again." She blushed a little from the slight shock when Rocky mentioned what happened
that night. But she quickly recovered and calmed herself down.
"What do you want to talk about then? About life? Dreams? Ambitions? In that case, I apologize
because I do not think there is anything in my life that is worth talking about. Everything is ordinary and
boring. So, I really do not have anything to say when it comes to that topic. When it comes to dreams, I
really don't have dreams so nothing to talk about that too. When it comes to ambitions, all I really want
is to be a humble beast breeder. I just want a simple life. So if there is nothing else, I would like to
excuse myself. I really am busy!" Rocky suddenly hesitated for a second. He was convinced that there
was nothing else that Marin would want to talk about. But at the same time, he sensed something
different in Marin today. She seemed more calculating than usual. He decided that the best approach
was to throw all of his ideas at her in the hope that she would end the conversation quickly and let him
leave.
"As the Commander, do I need to check your schedule beforehand if I want to talk to you?" Marin said
in a serious yet playful tone. She concluded that Rocky was uneasy and did not want to stay.
Rocky realized that Marin was truly serious. He never wanted to anger her in any way. For it would put
their friendship in jeopardy plus that would mean that he would be in trouble on a daily basis. He
slightly nodded his head as he sighed gently. He shrugged his shoulders as he walked towards the
chair opposite Marin and sat down. "Now, please be kind and tell me what it is that you wanted to talk
about."
"I heard from Sheridan that you disappeared for another two days. Where were you during those two
days?" Marin never took her eyes off of Rocky as she stood from her chair and walked towards the
front edge of her table right in front of Rocky.
"Let me think..." Rocky was immediately defensive after he heard Marin's question. He was in the area
under the jurisdiction of the northern sky military camp to capture a Dark Heaven Insect during that
time. He captured a live Dark Heaven Insect Queen. He also assisted in the defense of the northern
sky military camp against a surprise attack from the Timber Deity Empire. What worried him was for
Marin to find out what he was up to. He never expected Marin to be suspicious of anything. He
suddenly remembered an old saying that states, "When it rains, it pours."
"Oh, right, I think I went to Evian City. Sheridan mentioned a new girl in the geisha house who was
really beautiful. I went to see just how beautiful she was," Rocky replied with a sly smile. He pretended
to be a guy who often chased after girls. But, this was only a trick to get Marin off the trail of what he
really did. Because it would be a lot worse if Marin found out that he had been to the northern sky
military camp. He thought that if he played his hidden trump card in case all else failed, it would surely
keep Marin off of his trail.
"Really?" Marin asked in a pretentious tone. She sounded as if she knew exactly what Rocky's reply
would be. "Do you know the name of this new girl?" she asked with a mocking smile.
"Her name is... Oh-umm. Y-Y-Yoyo. Yes, right, Yoyo! She is really as beautiful as a Yo-Yo. Do you know
that feeling? As she walked past you, you feel like you're slowly floating... You can't help but be
captivated by her smile. It felt like..." Rocky tried hard to continue his story. His eyes sparkled as he
pictured a beautiful girl in front of him.
"Does she have a beautiful body?" Marin asked. Her question pressed Rocky further.
"Yes. Of course. It was gorgeous! Why, Commander? Are you also interested in women?" Rocky
replied. At the same time, Rocky wondered what went on in Marin's mind. Why was she asking these
strange questions?
"Do I have a more gorgeous body than her?" Marin asked without blinking. Her question had a tone
that demanded an answer that was both blunt and sincere. It took Rocky completely off guard. He had
never heard Marin talk that way before. 'What the hell is going on?' Rocky asked himself nervously.
"Err. Um. That is..." Rocky did not know what to say. He didn't want to compare Marin with someone
who did not exist. Rocky knew that if he said that Yoyo's body was more gorgeous, Marin would take
that statement as Rocky's way of saying that her body was not gorgeous at all. But Marin's body was
truly beautiful. She had a curvy figure that was always hidden under her military uniform. On the other
hand, if Rocky said that Marin's body was more gorgeous, it would mean to Marin that Rocky still had
the image of what happened that night vividly in his mind. He realized that he was completely trapped
with Marin's questions. There was no way for him to get out!
"Okay, stop making up stories. You went to the northern sky military camp. Do you think you can fool us
that easily?" Marin giggled when she saw that Rocky was in a complete state of shock and horror.
