81: The Escape

81: The Escape

An almost impenetrable cloud of dust enveloped the remains of the marketplace.

Kawao lay trembling on the ground.

He was conscious again.

All he felt was pain.

Even moving his eyes made them water.

But he knew just as well as his broken body that he couldn’t just lie there.

He slowly began to gather energy.

It hurt.

But he ignored the pain.

After what felt like an eternity, he managed to stand up.

He coughed and almost collapsed again.

This time, he had really pushed himself to the limit.

But who had taken over his body?

The voice sounded familiar.

It wasn’t the first time he had heard it.

A loud growl interrupted his fleeting thoughts.

Through the dusty veil, he saw a figure.

It was Fetu.

Despite the massive clash, he had only sustained minor injuries.

Yet he still looked extremely tense and angry.

“RAAAAARGH! HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE??? ME!!! INJURED??? I couldn’t have imagined this in a hundred years! GRRRR! You’ll pay for this! KAWAOOOO!!!” he roared with a bestial voice that sent a chill down Kawao’s spine.

For the first time in his life, he was one hundred percent sure he was going to die.

But that thought faded as he saw Fetu collapse to the ground, writhing wildly.

Was he trying to regain control over his body?

Whatever it was, this was his chance to escape!

He heard approaching footsteps from all directions.

They didn’t sound like normal citizens… Soldiers!

He had less time than he thought!

Suddenly, he gathered all his energy in his legs and sprinted as fast as he could.

Away from Fetu.

Away from this battlefield.

Away from those who wanted him dead.

He quickly reached the edge of the small crater they had caused.

A few shocked and terrified citizens stood there, unable to grasp what had happened.

He ignored them.

With one last burst of strength, he dashed through the streets ahead.

Suddenly, he felt dizzy and his vision began to fade.

He lost consciousness again.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw an unassuming building with a red cross over the door.

‘A hospital?’ he thought.

He had no time to ponder.

With one final effort, he leaped through the door into the building.

Then everything went black…

Slowly, Finn wrestled back control of his body.

Since his body had been taken over by Hino, his Nyd, he had been searching for a way to reclaim it.

He didn’t want him to start another massacre.

One time had been enough for him.

And he couldn’t hope for Pinoir to appear and help him again.

But suddenly, as if by shock, he regained control.

In front of him stood the tiredly smiling Pinoir.

“Are you alright, my friend?” he asked, completely out of breath.

“How did you…” Finn began, and then lost consciousness.

This battle between Kawao and Finn would later be known as the “Second Tragedy of Kurani.”
