67: New Day, New Mission

After barely two hours of sleep, Finn woke up again.

After all these years of never being able to sleep for long, this was nothing new to him.

After a few officers inspected his room (much more thoroughly than anyone else's), he made his way to the canteen.

There, he could feel the angry looks of the other soldiers.

But he didn't care.

Wordlessly, he ate his meal as far away from the others as possible.

The only ones who dared to approach him were those in his unit.

"When we're done, we'll head straight to the harbor! We need to be there at 10 o'clock sharp!"

The others nodded grimly.

Sometimes he wondered how much longer he could put up with all this crap.

After they finished, they made their way to the harbor without any major detours.

The residents of Kurani seemed relieved when he was around.

That made him happy.

Recently, he had ensured that the slums of Kaisan received a visual improvement, which led to more visitors going there to get a better picture of the city.

He hated the work he did for this.

But the results made it all worthwhile.

Shortly afterward, they reached the harbor.

Even a little before 10 o'clock.

That reassured him.

They could already see Paikon's ship.

It would probably only be a few more minutes before the ship docked and he could fulfill his duty of receiving the report from Commander Paikon.

His men looked visibly bored.

"Ah, Commander Fetu!" someone suddenly called out to him.

It was the harbormaster.

He kept track of every ship that approached or left Kurani and their activities here.

"Are you here to greet the commander?"

"Yes, indeed. That's why I'm here. And you, if I may ask?"

"I'm supposed to receive a report from him."

"Ah, I see."

The ship safely reached the harbor.

But something was wrong.

The stationed soldiers looked as if they wanted to leave the ship as quickly as possible.

"What's going on?" he shouted to them, but suddenly a loud bang shook the ship, and he and his men watched as the ship in front of them slowly sank.
