With horror, his men watched as Commander Paikon's ship sank before them in the harbor of Kurani.
Finn reacted immediately.
Without a running start, he jumped onto the ship and quickly looked around.
All the soldiers on deck instantly broke into a panic.
He barely had time to come up with a plan.
He had to act now!
"LISTEN UP! YOU STILL HAVE TIME TO JUMP FROM THE SHIP TO THE DOCK! I'LL FIND OUT WHAT CAUSED THIS!" he shouted with all his might.
Shortly afterward, they did just that.
Some immediately sprinted and saved themselves on solid ground.
He, on the other hand, ran to the lower decks.
Before they flooded, he hoped to find the cause of the shipwreck.
With all his strength, he sprinted below deck.
But almost everything was already underwater.
Without thinking twice, he dived in.
After a short time, he found his way to the lowest decks.
There, he found a large hole in the hull.
Someone had caused it!
And where was Paikon?
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
All questions he would have time to address once he was back on land.
But as he tried to swim back, he noticed that some debris was blocking the stairs.
And he didn't have much air left.
He had no other choice.
Using his Nyd, he punched a hole in the ship's wall and shot out through it.
With one blast, he reached the docks again, where his and Paikon's men were waiting.
The ship had now completely sunk in the harbor.
Without hesitation, he turned to the surviving soldiers.
"I am Commander Fetu. What happened here? Tell me!"
----------------------------------------
After the soldiers told him their story, some things became clear to him.
Or so he thought.
Because in the end, he wasn't much wiser than before.
The only thing he knew was that two people, Kawao and Koru, had defeated Commander Paikon, destroyed the ship, and were now on the run somewhere in Kurani.
From the soldiers' descriptions, they were probably mercenaries.
But who had sent them?
And why?
He knew that his top priority now was to find and capture the two.
He turned to his unit.
"Men, listen up! Commander Paikon was murdered by two unknown mercenaries! It is our top duty to find them and take them into custody! Search the city! Look for anyone who seems out of place and arrest them! Dismissed!"
Immediately, they set off.
The good thing about his men being idiots was that they hardly cared how serious the situation was.
To them, this was just insignificant work anyway.
Even if it involved a commander dying.
But he had no time to think about that now.
He had to start his own search as well.
Before he left, he told the harbormaster to keep quiet about what had happened for the time being.
The harbormaster agreed and went on his way.
He took one last look at the city.
Now he had to start his search too.
----------------------------------------
He had been searching for about two hours and hadn't found a single suspicious person.
As a commander, he had to set an example for his unit.
Even if his unit was likely arresting random people who had nothing to do with the wanted individuals.
He sighed.
Once again, he wondered what he had done to deserve all this.
Suddenly, he noticed a tavern nearby.
It was called "The Boiling Cauldron."
Could they possibly be there?
A tavern would be the ideal place to hide from the army or go underground.
But he had to remain undercover.
It wouldn't be good for his reputation if word got out that he frequented such places.
And that even though his reputation, at least in the army, was already bad enough.
Without further thought, he pulled up a hood and entered the tavern.
