34: The Church of Madness

34: The Church of Madness

Kawao and Koru were on their way back to the inn.

They took a small detour to take another look at the harbor.

It was a nice little place.

The people were friendly, and it seemed like there were no bigger worries in the world than pirates.

That made him wonder even more why, when he first entered the place, everything seemed so gloomy and sickly.

"What's wrong?" Koru asked him.

"You seem deep in thought."

"I'm just thinking about how the harbor was when I first arrived."

"Was anything different?"

"Yeah, pretty much everything. There was thick fog everywhere, and there were hardly any people on the streets. Those who were out seemed sick and deformed. They avoided me when they saw me, as if I were some kind of monster. And then there was that nun... and the church."

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

"Church? Nun? What are you talking about?"

"Hm?"

"There is no church in this harbor."

"What?"

"Where was it supposed to be?"

"Come, I'll show you!"

They hurried off.

When they finally stopped, Kawao was surprised.

Where the old rundown church was supposed to be, there were now some abandoned houses.

"I don't understand! It was right here!"

"I thought about what you told me on our way here. You might have had an encounter with the 'Church of Madness'!"

"Who or what is that?"

"It's a group of religious fanatics. For a long time, they were thought to be just crazy, but recently, strange things have been happening around them!"

"What kind of things?"

"People start seeing things or hearing creepy voices. No one is really sure what they're up to or what exactly they do!"

"... Have you ever dealt with them?"

Koru hesitated for a moment.

"Yes... I have."

"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to."

"Thanks. I don't want to unless it's necessary... This cult is not normal. I hope you stay away from them in the future... Nothing good comes from being involved with them!"

They looked at the empty houses for a moment.

Then, feeling uneasy, they went back to the inn, unaware that someone in one of the houses was watching them.
