Burning Revenge
16: Bigger equals better?

16: Bigger equals better?

They looked deeply into each other’s eyes.

"Your ability is enlargement, isn't it?" Kawao began.

"And if it were?"

"What then?"

"Then you would be right! I can enlarge and enhance objects I touch many times over!"

He picked up a small stone and tossed it aside. Shortly after, it grew rapidly to the size of a large boulder, breaking a tree upon landing.

"But my Nyd doesn't stop at objects. I can also enlarge smaller living creatures!"

He searched for something on the ground. When he found it, he touched it, and soon he was standing on a giant ant.

"Now I can control it too!" he said, pointing in Kawao's direction.

The ant attacked him. Kawao took a deep breath and gathered energy once again.

To destroy the rock earlier, he had to expend all the energy he had gathered. With considerable effort, he dodged the ant's attacks.

Once he had enough energy, he jumped up and aimed for his actual opponent. But the man threw another stone at him, which immediately became a boulder.

This time, however, Kawao didn’t smash it. He twisted in the air and pushed off with his feet. The energy he had gathered was enough to propel him back toward his attacker.

But the man released his Nyd from the ant, which instantly became smaller and thus brought him to safety.

At least, that's what he thought.

After pushing off the boulder, Kawao twisted in the air again and continued to gather energy. He landed precisely on a tree, which he used to launch himself again, this time with such force that the trunk broke.

As the ant shrank and his opponent correspondingly descended with it, Kawao rushed at him with breathtaking speed.

When his opponent noticed him, it was already too late.

With a punch that created a shockwave, he sent him flying against a tree. This time, however, he didn't just hit it; he went right through it.

After crashing through three trees, he landed on the ground, unconscious.

Gasping for breath, Kawao slowly shuffled over to him. When he reached him, he checked his pulse. He was still alive.

"You're lucky this time!"

He let himself fall against a nearby tree.

,What the hell is going on here?´ he wondered.

,First that nightmare church, then this attack... What's next?´

Out of the corner of his eye, something glinted. He looked in that direction. Something bright was reflecting light.

He slowly stood up again and limped forward.

After pushing through some underbrush, he found his answer: ruins.

Before him stretched an extensive ruin, almost completely reclaimed by nature.

,What have I discovered now?´
