31: A historical Meal

He sat down across from Koru at the table.

Eagerly, he looked at the many dishes laid out before him.

"Dig in! Take whatever you want! The owner said we can have whatever we want."

Slowly, Kawao reached out his hand, contemplating where to start.

"So many things I've never seen or smelled before!" he said, swallowing hard.

Koru couldn't believe his ears.

"What?"

"I mean, I've never seen or tasted any of these delicious-looking dishes in my life."

"I can't believe that. Have you been living under a rock or something?"

He quickly pulled his hand back.

"What do you mean? I've lived my entire life on an island far from any civilization."

"WHAT?!? And now you're setting out to learn more about life beyond your horizon?" Koru exclaimed in disbelief.

,Where did he get that idea? Never mind. It's probably better than telling him I'm out for revenge.´

"Something like that," he replied.

Koru covered his face with his hand and took a deep breath.

"Wow. Just wow... Alright! Then I'll make it my mission to teach you about the impressive culinary history of Unas and its countries."

Kawao nodded hesitantly.

Koru then began to explain that, during the 3 Wars of the Lost, people and countries grew further apart.

It was only with the end of the last war and the ensuing peace agreement that the countries began to slowly but surely open up.

And with that, various dishes gradually reached the previously inaccessible countries of the continent.

For Koru and many others who grew up just before the end of the war, it was something like a "Culinary Revolution."

That’s why he was so excited to introduce Kawao to this world.

In the following hours, Kawao enjoyed many well-known dishes, such as braised flame pork in spicy BBQ sauce, whose meat is naturally almost fully cooked; the silvered lobster, under whose metallic shell a super juicy piece of meat waits to melt in your mouth with a béchamel sauce; the decade egg, which is only ready for preparation after at least 10 years and, when cooked, can keep you full for 3 days; or the infinite cream puff, said to contain a scent so sweet that it makes you cry.

For a moment, this experience reminded him of Git-How and his family.

Tears welled up in his eyes.
