E1-82-Necesidad de lectura

The night passed fairly quickly, and currently, Adam was on his way to school. Today, he would perform the commemoration ceremony for reaching 100 pages in his language book.

For the young hero, reaching this milestone was quite important, and he had also enlisted the help of his teacher, Aquiles, in organizing the ceremony, so he couldn't afford to be late.

Unfortunately, the information Adam had analyzed yesterday, after seeking a lot of advice and life experiences from his godfather, turned out to be mostly useless.

Adam already had many clues indicating that he had been a bad person in his past life, and his father was the biggest clue in that regard. While the fact that he couldn't read had been mentioned to him several times beforehand, like when the bear and the bench mentioned it. Also, the reason for the red-haired boy's expulsion could be deduced using the two drawings deliberately left by Past Adam in his bank account: those drawings probably contained a clue that would have saved him from having to use the school records to verify this information, but Adam hadn't realized the importance of these two drawings and had not been able to interpret them correctly until now.

The most annoying part of the new information he gathered was that Adam had no idea how he managed to survive the chase from the guards on the 4th floor when he was just a child. The second thing that bothered him was why everyone was so sure he hadn't learned to read in his previous life. It was impossible for the only way to master a language to be by using the school bookshelf and its teachers. There must be other bookshelves that could help one master a language; even the eyeless old man mentioned that he should use them to learn the language of the black book, although, according to what Adam remembered, they were very, very far away.

Therefore, there had to be a hidden reason why one couldn't learn a single language if expelled from this school, but both Aquiles and the director avoided mentioning it. With this doubt in mind, Adam asked his godfather about it since the eyeless old man laughed in his face like a jerk when he asked about the matter.

According to Adam's godfather, the reason was not the expulsion but rather the history of the wooden floors and the fact that Adam was born on those floors. However, his godfather left him hanging and avoided talking about it further since, from his perspective, that history held little useful value for the young hero. Adding another great frustration to Adam's heart.

The true frustration, though, was learning that the school records hardly mentioned anything about his past life: the only interesting piece of information was that in his previous life, he had many more classmates, and on top of that, none of those classmates seemed to get along with him: just like in this life.

The gravest part of it all was that the only three who knew the truth about his past refused to talk to him: one was the eyeless old man, the other his father, who did not refuse to talk (but the boy refused to visit him without the black cloak). And lastly, the bear, whom Adam never saw again after it helped him get his mushrooms.

On his way to the ceremony, Adam continued to ponder the matter and tried to get used to wearing the glasses. Nonetheless, the young hero walked with more happiness than usual because, although his past remained a mystery, he had proven yesterday that the eyeless old man seemed to have slightly changed his attitude. Two days had passed, and the eyeless old man still didn't insist on him learning the language of the lower floors to turn him into a Toy Maker.

According to his godfather, this was the time to drive the nails into the wood with force, and in the following days, Adam would have to try to convince the eyeless old man that he could always wait for another hero to become a Toy Maker.

Finally, Adam arrived at the giant frame that served as the entrance to the school, and to his surprise, the director was waiting for him, sitting on a stool at the entrance. Cesar wore new red robes for the occasion, and he seemed quite excited.

Seeing him, Cesar said happily:

—It's been a while since I've seen a boy who wants to do this ceremony. So I'm quite excited: Let's go for it!

—Was it optional?— Adam asked with some doubt. Nonetheless, he wanted to do it, but he didn't understand why no one else wanted to perform the ceremony with their parents.

—Of course, usually regular boys are 20 years old when they do it— Cesar replied with some sadness —In the past, the ceremony was more significant because godparenting was done upon reaching 100 pages, not just 10. But things changed a long time ago. Also, parents aren't very keen on spending a whole day on their children's ceremony.

Adam already knew the reason for this; the librarians hated missing their reading time since they always ended up needing the books for one reason or another. This problem was also affecting the red-haired boy, so he understood it quite well. In his case, in particular, it was to avoid the purge by wearing the black robe.

Looking at the new robes and the early hour at which the director had awakened, Adam was quite impressed by his dedication to the students, so he said:

—It's always surprised me how you, the teachers, are willing to go through so much trouble for the students. I truly believe there aren't many librarians as considerate as you.

—Sure, kid: I love my students!— Cesar responded with a big smile —For an old dying man like me, the students are the children I never got to raise. So I dedicate as much time as I can to help them.

—You don't seem so moribund...— Adam said with a smile, trying to encourage the old man —Anyway, thank you, Cesar, you really made...

—Wait!!— Cesar shouted desperately, abruptly stopping the young man and dragging him inside the school as if his life depended on it —Say it inside, kid!

Adam didn't understand the reason, but if it helped to this old man, why not?:

—Anyway, thank you, Cesar, you really made this learning process much more comfortable. Thanks to your company, I always feel better at this school than at home.

To Adam's surprise, as he finished thanking his director, a giant head began to form on the wall.
