The three kids looked somewhat bewildered at their teacher and nodded in agreement. Aquiles continued to explain to them how to feed the little books and hoped they had understood the most important lesson.
Adam, filled with joy, started feeding the little books. It was truly delightful to see how the stickers took on three-dimensional shapes and fed on the dust on the floor. After some time feeding the cute creatures, the class ended and all students were able to return to their homes.
Today's class had been shorter, so Adam took advantage of the remaining day to follow the instructions of his godfather and the old blind man. Whether by fortune or misfortune, both of them wanted him to participate in the war.
Though Adam wasn't entirely sure what "participate" meant in this context. His task was to stand near the staircase and wait for something to happen, but so far, nothing had. Nonetheless, his godfather had been asking him to do this every morning since the first day he told him about the ascension.
Adam waited for quite some time, but like every other day, after an hour of watching people come and go, not much happened. So, he decided to return to the cave. He wanted to ask the old blind man if he knew any little books he could play with.
With steady steps, Adam reached the cave, and as usual, the old blind man let him in. But before he could ask anything, the old blind man spoke first:
This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it
—Any news, lad? You have to get those magical books so this adorable old man can be happy.
—No, nothing's happening...— Adam replied, unsure about the method —I don't understand why I have to wait near the staircase to get a magical book.
—You must listen to your godfather, young hero— the old blind man said seriously —Those magical books are rare and essential for your future. If you wait near the staircase, one day a bookshelf will ask you for a favor, and that's how you'll get your magical book.
—But it's dangerous to spend too much time on the 4th floor— Adam said with concern.
—Heroes aren't afraid of danger— the old blind man responded without hesitation —Your godfather will help you when you have to do the favor. He wouldn't ask you to wait if it were too dangerous.
—Well, I'll keep waiting...— Adam replied with annoyance. Waiting an hour every day was becoming super boring for him —Do you know any little books , old man?
—A few trustworthy ones...— the old man said with hesitation.
Then, eyes appeared on the wooden face of the bookshelf, and they looked at the boy suspiciously as he asked with many doubts:
—Who sent you to ask me that, Adam?
—I just want to play; the little books are cute— Adam replied, intending to ask his godfather how to find a little book.
The old blind man stared at Adam for a few minutes. He knew very well who Adam was, and his childish appearance didn't deceive him. But when he noticed that the boy was detecting something unusual in his gaze, he quickly said, hiding his eyes:
—If you bring me another magical book, I'll introduce you to some little books . I've known them for many years, and they're super cute; they look like a family of teddy bears.
Adam nodded happily and prepared to talk to his godfather.
