Capitulo 5: Las 100 paginas
Time passed slowly, too slowly, but it passed. Adam was 17 years old, and today he had finished reading the first 100 pages of his language book, while his classmates had only reached 90. These last pages were extremely challenging for everyone, and it was normal for a student to earn their black robe between the ages of 25-30, so Adam's pace was abnormally fast.
But it wasn't surprising that he reached the 100 pages so quickly. After all, Adam did nothing but study the language, and his sole objective was to obtain the black robe at this moment.
In these two years and change, Adam hadn't experienced another adventure, and the sheep hadn't appeared yet. However, according to the blind old man, it would take several years for the sheep to verify the suitcase's contents, so there was still a long way to go to fulfill the favor.
As Adam suspected, the bomb didn't exist, and his godfather had lied to him. Nevertheless, Adam wasn't upset about it; in these two years, he had learned that his godfather only wanted him to survive everything, and others didn't matter.
But surviving wasn't the same as living well, and Adam knew that better than anyone. These two years of studying like a maniac had cost him his entire youth. But his godfather had been clear: from the age of 20, any day after that date, he would have to leave with or without the black robe if the purge happened.

That was Adam's 16th birthday gift from his godfather: finding out that the inhabitants of the upper, middle, and lower floors would be displaced from their homes by other librarians.
Thus, a war was looming to avoid being displaced. Studying now was much easier than during a war, so Adam had to seize this opportunity, even if it meant sacrificing his youth.
Once he had the black robe, Adam would seek out his father, and they would leave together for safer floors. The young hero prayed that seeing him wearing the black robe would have a positive enough effect on his father to restore some of his sanity. According to his godfather, a war between librarians was much more violent and chaotic than the war between bookshelves, making it a very bad idea to get caught in the middle.
Right now, Adam was celebrating his 100 pages; he hadn't gone to school for the official ceremony yet, and he had decided to skip class today. His godfather had told him that he had to talk to a specific bookshelf on this day, and it could only be done today.
Apparently, the bookshelf's conditions were to reach 100 pages with this language on the middle floor. With such specific conditions, the reward should be significant, especially considering one had to sacrifice more than 7 years of their life to learn a language to this level.
Adam was quite excited; it was the first time in so many years that his godfather had shared a secret with him, so he was eagerly anticipating what he would receive in return for solving this bookshelf's riddle.
