—Oh! How wonderful! —answered Cesar with an even bigger smile—Come, boy, come in, the corridors are not a place for a chat.
Adam walked into the principal's office: everything looked the same, except that the large stack of books on top of the principal's desk was slightly larger. The director threw all the books on the floor and sat on his desk, while he invited Adam to sit in one of the armchairs.
The boy, somewhat surprised by the scene, sat on the couch with some childhood memories of him. The chair that had seemed immense before, was now at the perfect height for his body.
The last time Adam had sat on this couch, he was just a lost boy who was looking to learn how to read to change his life. He now he was a few steps away from finishing his quest to obtain the black robe.
César saw that the boy sat down and said:
—Your reading pace is quite fast for your classmates. But very slow if we compare them with the special guys like you. I suppose you must have remembered a bit of your former life, too bad for Achilles.
—I don't know what you mean—Adam answered forcefully and with some fear.
—You grew up in this school, you're like a son to a baron, boy—Cesar replied, deducing the source of the problem perfectly—It's impossible for me to turn you into a book at this point.
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
Adam was silent, even if nothing happened he preferred not to bring it up at school, the trauma with what he went through with Sofia had never completely disappeared. The director noticed the silence and stopped to look for something in one of the drawers of his desk, while he said:
—The 100 pages are important, the vast majority of old books can be read with that amount of knowledge, the next 40 pages are an addition created by ancient librarians in order to convey the variation in language over time and give you a greater command of the language.
Adam listened, he had noticed that when he tried to read the book too, a lot of the words seemed to be more current. Cesar managed to find what he was looking for: it looked like a very old file, the director approached Adam and gave him the old file, saying:
—To commemorate reaching 100 pages, I have a special gift for you, Adam. This file contains your information as a student 500 years ago, I hope you can remember something more from your past and thus take advantage of your rebirth. If not, things can get complicated.
Adam understood what the director meant; already the guards doubted him too and mistook him for a creature looking to attack the middle floors. He didn't want the people in the market to start doubting too. It would be very annoying to be attacked every time he went to buy something silly, but Adam had no way to solve it, he could only trust that everything would be resolved when he confirmed his identity with his finger.
Adam took the file with trembling hands, long ago he had accepted that there was something strange with his past, but he never managed to remember anything and the most relevant of all is that his father hated him for this past.
If Adam could understand his past, he might be able to see how to get close to his father again. Since he left his house, the boy continues to yearn for the day when his father comes to the cave of the old man without eyes to look for him again on his behalf. But that never happened, maybe if he knew his past he would know the reason and could correct the mistakes of his previous life.
