E1-119-El Mago

Adam pondered for a moment and devised a plan just in case. Then, the young man called the old man without eyes and said:

—Could you help me if something comes out of the book to attack me?

—In some cases, yes...—The old man without eyes replied with concern—But if you enter the book, there's no way I can help you.

—Enter the book? Was that what happened to me a little while ago?—Adam said, recalling the strange scene where the book slid over his hand as if it were an illusion.

The old man without eyes looked at Adam with concern and commented:

—No, I also saw you turning into a book and something trying to come out of it. Entering a book is much more complicated than that.

—Did I turn into a book? What would it mean to enter a book?—Adam asked anxiously and nervously; from the expression on the old man without eyes, it seemed like things could get too complicated for him if that happened.

—I cannot discuss the matter, but at this rate, you'll understand soon...—The old man without eyes said as he brought the next book and placed it on the desk—Here is the lake to heal you, so don't be too afraid. As long as you don't go inside the book, you should come out alive.

Adam approached the desk with distrust. The old man without eyes, noticing the boy's hesitation, shouted to encourage him:

—You have nothing to fear, young man! Heroes always come out alive!

The young hero didn't respond; he simply took the book on the desk and headed towards the lake. His strategy would be to read it while in the water. Adam didn't know what would happen when he read it, but being surrounded by healing water, it should be very difficult to die.

Adam looked with some fear at his next magical book. He remembered the advice the monk had given him a few years ago: 'A bad appearance, bad reading,' and the appearance of this book was not bad: it was horrendous!

The book called "Yellow Crabs" was quite thick, and its cover was made of two pieces of rotting meat tied together with threads for sewing. The pages inside the book couldn't be seen because they were hidden within the meat. The book's title inscription was placed on a rusted metal plate, which was nailed with nails onto one of the pieces of meat that served as covers.

Below the title, on the rusted metal plate, someone had engraved a happy face next to a written phrase, which said in the language of the middle floor:

> 'Enjoy your new life, wretched slave.'

>

> Unauthorized use of content: if you find this story on Amazon, report the violation.

The phrase was written in a very messy way, and it was somewhat complicated for Adam to understand what it said, as it seemed that the person who wrote the phrase didn't quite understand the language of the wooden floors.

Adam inspected the phrase more carefully, as it could be a clue left by a librarian. However, due to the sloppiness of the engraving and the message itself, the redhead assumed that it had been written with hatred, rather than with the intention of helping solve the riddle of this magical book.

When he opened the book, the young hero noticed that there were only two pages stapled to the meat inside the book, so the book consisted of just two pages. Despite being incredibly unexciting, these two pages would be his fifth magical book!

The redhead began reading the two pages, but he stopped immediately and observed the pages carefully: the characters on the pages were moving as if they had a life of their own throughout the book. Adam tried to follow the characters to read the pages, but soon a jumble of characters appeared in the book, making him dizzy and unable to read.

The young man watched attentively as the characters went back and forth on the book until they all moved towards the center, forming several circles, each smaller than the previous one. Then, slowly, the circles began to rotate in different directions, making Adam even more dizzy.

It was impossible for the young hero to read anything at the moment, so he just observed the changes in the book, trying to understand their meaning. After watching the circles spin for a few minutes, Adam noticed a difference: the largest circle of characters had disappeared. Like a domino effect, all the circles vanished from the largest to the smallest, until only a single character remained in the center.

Adam recognized it; that individual character meant "I" in the language of the middle floors. Noticing that the character didn't move for a few minutes and only stayed in the middle of the two pages, the young man tried reading it out loud:

> —I

The character disappeared, and two others appeared in its place: a circle and a square. Adam understood that the book was trying to form a sentence, so he read aloud their meaning.

> —I discovered...

The two characters vanished, and four appeared in their place. Adam immediately read:

> —I discovered a great...

Upon reading it, eight more characters appeared, but Adam hesitated to read them aloud; he feared that something bad would happen if he did. In the end, the young man gathered his courage and said with doubts:

> —I discovered a great secret, but I cannot reveal it...

This time, the characters dissolved slowly across the two pages, and writings in blood began to appear, totaling 32 characters. Adam first read them silently and continued reading aloud with trepidation:

> —The more magical books I read, the more magical my life will be, and the more magical my life, the more magical my adventures will be, and the more magical my adventures, the more tragic my death will be...

After reading the message aloud, blood started gushing out of the book until both pages were completely covered in blood. Then, the blood was sucked back into the book, and a message appeared on the two pages. Adam read the message in his mind and felt more at ease: this was an excellent message! With more confidence, he read aloud what was written in the book:

> —Through your great deeds and kindness to other slaves, let me tell you that in your sixth book, you will embark on your first great adventure. In the first adventure, you must only observe without speaking to survive. Congratulations on taking your first step on the path of the wizard, Adam!
