Many things changed for Adam since he managed to understand his problems and himself. Or maybe his godfather was just deceiving him. Nevertheless, the mental state of despair that Adam had at the moment ended up turning his godfather's lies into his new reality.
To overcome depression, Adam searched and searched for a topic of reading that would motivate his life. After a long search, the topic that currently interested the young redhead was religion. For nearly 4 years, he researched the subject through books on general culture.
According to the young man's studies, there were many religions in the library, and they were generally individualistic, pursuing quite specific objectives. Being individualistic, one had to discover for themselves which god they wanted to believe in, and there was no community to join after believing in that god. Hence, the religions in the library were more of a personal decision than the worship of a community towards a belief, and there was no shared heritage, although this could vary greatly from one religion to another, according to the book. An example of this was that on the wooden floors, there was no shared religion, and there was no predominant religious group.
However, the books on general culture made it quite clear that the way each religion portrayed a god was very different, and in some cases, it was too vague to be understood without belonging to the religion.
While it was not common to see a religious community, generally, librarians of the same belief could participate and conduct ceremonies together, but these were not frequent, and Adam was not aware of any groups of this type of people living on the middle floors.
There were many religions, and in general, the details of a religion were hidden and had to be discovered while practicing it. The little that was generally known was the name of the religion, the objective of the religion, and how to achieve said objectives. But one never knew the objects of worship of a religion or its gods, or, more importantly, its benefits, as there was no disinterested religion in this world.
For example, Adam's godfather believed in the religion of "The Builders", and as a missionary, he spent many years roaming the floors, trying to find the library's secret hexagons and fixing the library. He found quite a few of these secret hexagons and, after achieving his goal, decided to return to his birth hexagon to die and become part of the library.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
That was the life of his godfather and his reason for being a librarian, so "The Builders" religion was his life's path as a librarian.
There were three other people that Adam had already met throughout his life who also followed the path of religion:
One was the hermit who jumped into infinity, his religion was that of "The Ancient Librarians", and his life's goal was to live as one of them and achieve ascent to help the rest of the librarians on the floor where he was born.
The second was Abel: the old man without legs whom Adam had helped five years ago in the reverse world. His religion was "Me, Me, Me" and basically, he sought to find three books: a biography of his past self, a biography of his present self, and a biography of his future self.
The last was his former classmate, Franco and his father; they both believed in "The Inquisitors", and thus, they believed that there were books that only served to harm librarians, and their duty in life was to burn them to help the rest of the librarians never come across them. An example of the kind of books they sought to eliminate was the biography made with human skin by the Toy Maker that could kill Adam if he read it.
After researching for a few years, Adam was deciding which religion he believed in and would live by in this library for the rest of his life. At the moment, only three religions interested him:
* "The Heroes": Technically, this was the religion Adam had been following since birth, and basically, it consisted of advancing to the end of the positive karma route.
* "The Wizard": It involved obtaining as many magical abilities as possible through magical books and becoming a wizard. This was another religion that Adam had been unknowingly following.
* "The Lost Characters": It involved finding certain characters that could unify all the languages in the library and make all the books understandable. This was the religion that excited Adam the most because it followed the motivation of his revolutionary idea of mini words discovered in his childhood.
Therefore, religion was not only a belief, but also a very useful way to set a path to follow in the library and give meaning to an empty life in these cold aisles. And this was precisely what was happening to the young hero, who currently felt quite empty. Therefore, he was trying to find a religion that would fill his heart with something more than random books.
However, not everyone followed a religion; the most common thing in the library was to go on one's own with one's own objectives, although one could also work for a bookshelf and have a more comfortable life. The truth was that Adam was very close to obtaining the black robe, so the moment had finally come for the young man to ask himself: "What do I want to do in this life?"
