E1-43-Casualidades de la vida ...

With a pencil in hand, Adam explained the situation to his godfather and asked if he knew any little books. Luckily, with 40 pages read, the boy could now hold a normal conversation with his godfather.

Adam's godfather replied with a somewhat simple paragraph:

'I'm already dead, how am I supposed to introduce you to the little books I know? But don't trust the old blind man; I doubt he'll help you with this. The bookshelves love those little books more than they love the librarians: little books don't die with the passing of time, while we can barely last a blink of an eye for the bookshelves.'

Adam read carefully; after all this time, he knew his godfather was suspicious of everything, so his attitude didn't surprise him. Using the pencil in his hand, the boy wrote in the biography: 'But isn't there a way to see one?'

The question dissolved into the blank page, and a paragraph appeared in its place:

'Yes, there is... Go and wait on the staircase until you see a little book calling you. Don't be impatient; the war will last much longer than your life. You'll only participate in the initial stage, and that's the best stage. Remember: our goal is the bookshelves that have been waiting for this moment for 50,000 years on that floor. They are patient and will notice that you're more useful than any other librarian.'

Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.

Adam took a good time to read the lengthy paragraph, and his godfather wrote several paragraphs with similar words to try to convey the message as clearly as possible. After some time, Adam understood most of it and asked:

'Why am I more useful?'

Underneath the question, a response appeared in the biography:

'Because of the baron... The baron broke their rules by hurting a child, and you're that child. Now, you're untouchable by the librarians on that floor, and that helps more than you think. Follow the plans, and we'll come out with books that will change your destiny, Adam.'

Adam tried to understand the words, but unfortunately, he could only grasp a part of the message, enough to know that he would be safe, or at least that's what he understood. Unfortunately, it seemed like his godfather didn't want to talk more about the little books, and every time he asked something, the same message appeared: 'Wait on the stairs. Ask me on the stairs. Study on the stairs.'

Adam got tired of asking his godfather and decided to start studying. It was getting more challenging, and this time, according to Professor Aquiles, Adam should reach 60 pages to notice the change in the book, while his classmates would achieve it at 50 pages.

So, Adam had to study 20 pages, and his classmates 10. But according to the professor, the difficulty level was the same.

While Adam studied, the old blind man thought carefully about the words of Adam's godfather, but he didn't seem bothered by his godfather's suspicion. Both of them sought the same thing: magical books. And as this happened, the old blind man had no reason to be upset; Adam's godfather's plan didn't seem so bad from the bookshelf's perspective.

Although he might not get anything if no bookshelf dared to trust Adam. But wars were long for the librarians, and the boy would probably die before seeing the end of it, so opportunities wouldn't be lacking.
