034-Impossible riddle.

The wooden head had no decoration, it looked like a model, except that it only had a mouth and everything else was empty, but inside the mouth it seemed to have an eye and no teeth or tongue.

—Aren't you very young, child?—asked the head, it seemed to have a very rhythmic and jubilant tone; listening to him speak conveyed a certain joy at how beautiful his voice was.

—I can't see, he will be my eyes, and then he will come back— said the old man dressed in rags and barefoot.

—Well, how old are you, old man?—the head asked, as he circled the old man around him, as if he were swimming in the woods. But always his head looked at the old man, inspecting the old man's entire body.

—I don't remember, but more than you, surely—answered the old man as he sat down on the wood.

Adam saw the old man sit down and followed his example; he was already a little tired from walking so much.

—I'm 1000 years old, old man—He replied with a certain pride, while he joyfully turned around the old man— And how many languages did you master?

—More than you too, but that question is irrelevant—the old man replied calmly.

—I know 13 languages, old man—answered the head with even more pride, while he turned with joy.

Adam looked at the two and did not quite understand what was happening.

—And how many characters do you know?—I asked, the head stopping his turn together in front of the man's unseeing eyes.

But the old man did not answer, he remained silent, waiting. His head turned happily again and he asked:

How many floors did you visit?

—More than you too, but not enough— the old man answered in a hurry.

Then the old man suddenly stopped and leaned to the opposite side of the void.

Adam only now understood it, the old man is not answering questions, this is a kind of riddle put by that head, but he did not understand how it is that the old man was answering it, there was no clue, or he was not understanding them and the old man had not asked either consequences or gains.

—I have no doubt about that, I never left this floor—He replied, turning his head happily.

—If you went out and walked the floors, but you don't remember it because you failed where I didn't fail— The old man answered by throwing himself to the ground suddenly, he didn't seem to care that his hands bled from scraping when he fell.

—We'll see—answered the head, but with a completely different voice, it was much duller than before and colder—Perhaps you think it's so easy to do it. Death was the best option! No librarian alive can jump into infinity!! In a few minutes you will be a slave like me.

—No, boy—answered the old man in a very cheerful voice, sitting down again—Heroes don't fail!

—Do you know how many have said that before you?—Said the head moving around the old man and his voice was getting colder and duller.

The old man jumped up, his hands raised in the air, and he shouted euphorically:

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

—I was a hero, I am a hero and I will be a hero!

Adam watched the scene, racking his brain to understand the trick. He understood the movement of the head and the change in tone of the voice, but there had to be something else that he didn't see.

—Well, it looks like you did—the head said resignedly and disappeared into the woods.

Adam was disappointed for not understanding the secret of the riddle, but he went to the old man to help him again, but the old man did not move a muscle, he seemed like a perfect statue.

—He's lying—Adam murmured, understanding that things were getting complicated, if he's lying it's because he doesn't follow the rules and if he doesn't follow them how do you get the bookshelf to obey you.

The old man was silent for a few minutes until the head reappeared, then the old man walked forward, as if he had never really needed Adam. Out of curiosity, Adam followed him, this could be part of the riddle that his heart wanted to discover.

The head kept asking the old man more and more strange questions as he got closer to hex 0 and the old man either ignored them, half-answered them or answered them apparently correctly. Adam understood at this point that the joints of the old man were not of a common librarian, his arms, hips, legs and each joint could move independently of the others, using that the old man went all the way doing the strangest poses that Adam saw in his life.

From getting so close to hexagon 0, Adam could notice something that he would never forget, the more he advanced, more and more floors were revealed above and below, it seemed that he never stopped appearing the floors; At this point, they had long since passed the lower, middle and upper levels, what Adam was seeing must be the peripheries to the central zone.

It was then that Adam noticed that someone had drawn a red circle on the peripheries of Hexagon 0 just 100 meters from the void. When they crossed it, the head with only a mouth grew two eyes and began to bombard the old man with questions, but this time the old man answered all of them as he walked, he seemed in no hurry as if this was really the part of the test he was looking for .

With only 10 meters to go sweat had begun to appear on Adam's forehead from what he was seeing, the amount of floors he was seeing at this height was hellish. It seemed that the floors would never stop appearing, it would seem... That the number of floors was infinite!

Someone had painted a black line before the last meter, it seemed that something strange was going to happen again and so it was: The head was completely formed showing the face of an ordinary person, in his mouth there were ordinary teeth and no eyes, everything seemed to be quite ordinary.

—The last question, if you succeed you can launch yourself while you are alive—said the head, looking the old man in the eyes for a long time.

Adam couldn't understand why solve so many riddles just to throw himself into the eternal void, but he listened carefully, he had already wondered about everything, but for some reason he didn't remember anything the old man answered or the questions themselves. But he did remember that the questions and answers were exciting in the interval before he forgot them.

The head began to turn around the old man and asked:

—What is the name of the boy who accompanied you all the time?

Adam then understood the problem and the difficulty of the question, this was an impossible question to answer, he never mentioned his name to the old man, it was impossible for him to know. The old man was doomed!

But the old man didn't speak, he just patted his shoulder and stared at him.

'Can't it be?!, Or if' Adam though as if it were crazy that this was resolved like this, but he became brave and understanding the old man's look, he said:

—My name is Adam.

—His name is Adam—the old man replied immediately after, with a grin from ear to ear on his withered face.

The head didn't say anything, it just sank into the wood, the old man didn't say anything either and walked to the edge, did a pirouette in the air and threw himself into the void, laughing like a madman. The old man fell and fell until he was lost in the infinite horizon. But before the speck in the distance could disappear from Adam's sight, a glimmer appeared on the horizon and the speck disappeared.

Adam didn't cry over the old man throwing himself into the void, partly because he didn't understand what would happen if you did. Elsewhere, because the old man seemed to want to do it, and because the puzzle had lasted a few hours, which was why Adam had taken it on long ago.

Adam returned to hexagon 3 in a daze, he had finally understood the riddle, it was the preparation, one had to prepare to get here, that is why the old man took it beforehand, probably to ensure an impossible answer, at the moment of the impossible question ...

The impossible riddle had been solved by that old man dressed in rags.
