With caution, Adam turned the doorknob to see what was inside the room that could serve as an escape during the purge. But as he opened the door, Adam stood in astonishment, staring at the room.
The room had wooden floors and ceilings. Unlike the entire hexagon before the repair, this room was quite tidy and in excellent condition. Inside, one could find a lit fireplace illuminating the room, and to Adam's astonishment, a creature was sitting on a sofa in front of the fireplace.
The creature was quite tall and had no skin, revealing all the muscles of its body. The most striking feature was its face: with yellowish, sharp teeth in its mouth, completely yellow eyes, and the creature had no nose or ears.
The creature's body constantly released tiny drops of blood, so the room's floor around the sofa was covered in blood. However, the blood quickly evaporated, turning into red smoke, which enveloped the entire room up to Adam's knees.
Currently, the creature was casually sipping coffee and reading on the sofa, completely ignoring the fact that Adam had just opened the door to its room.
Adam cautiously took a few steps back and tried to close the door again, but the creature's voice stopped him:
—It's been a while since we last saw each other, Adam. Congratulations on obtaining the black robe.
Adam opened the door again and looked carefully at the creature, asking with suspicion:
—Are you also Adam?
—No, of course not. How could I be Adam when you already are Adam?—the creature sitting on the sofa replied while calmly sipping its coffee —I am your teacher. Don't you remember my voice?
From a distance, Adam cautiously looked at the strange creature. Unfortunately, he didn't remember Aquiles' voice; not only had he disappeared a long time ago, but the mole that covered his face spoke with an annoying nasal tone. In contrast, the creature in front of him spoke like an ordinary librarian.
—Did you regain control of your body?—Adam asked with fear from a distance.
The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.
—Aquiles lost control a long time ago, Adam,—the creature sitting on the sofa replied, looking at the fireplace, seemingly trying to ignore Adam's cautious gaze.
—So, you're the mole?—Adam asked with suspicion.
—Well, I used to be a mole...—the creature corrected calmly —But now, I'm almost completing my resurrection.
—Are you a Toy Maker?—Adam asked, gazing up at the gigantic creature.
It seemed that Professor Aquiles had the misfortune of confusing the biography of a Toy Maker with a magical book, which led to him losing control of his body.
—Indeed—the creature replied calmly —Although you don't remember, we had an agreement in the past: I would help you escape during the purge in exchange for you getting me a new body.
—And coincidentally, the body happened to be that of the teacher who wanted to harvest me at school...—murmured Adam, understanding that the reason his teacher Aquiles ended up reading that book instead of a magical one was not as simple as it seemed —Do you remember who gave your biography to Aquiles?
—I always assumed it was you, Adam, but it seems someone else helped...—the creature replied thoughtfully —I don't remember what happened after I proceeded to become a biography for rebirth; my consciousness returned when your teacher lost control of his body.
The creature stood up and proceeded to find a black robe in the room. Standing, it almost reached the ceiling, which scared Adam quite a bit. Furthermore, the creature's yellow, sharp teeth and its expressionless skinless face made the young boy quite nervous.
—We should hurry to the exit; the attack has already begun...—the Toy Maker commented as it put on an unusually long black robe that covered most of its body. However, its skinless head remained quite uncomfortable to look at.
—The attack has started already?!—Adam exclaimed fearfully.
—Don't worry, they'll first exterminate the people on the middle floors—the creature replied as it approached Adam at the door with a few steps —They wouldn't dare harm the citadel, so purging these floors is the most delicate part of their mission. Therefore, it will be the last thing they do.
—Can you still move even when I'm looking at you?—Adam asked, feeling dazed.
—Of course, I'm not playing games with you. Why would I do something so foolish?—the Toy Maker commented calmly as it left the door and headed towards the hexagon's exit.
Adam watched the Toy Maker's back as it moved down the hallway, leaving a trail of blood as it walked. Then, the blood started evaporating, filling the hallway floors with a thick red mist.
Somewhat dazed by the unexpected turn of events, Adam decided to follow the Toy Maker and trust that the creature would save him from the purge. Besides, Adam had a super-magical escape ability, so if the Toy Maker betrayed him, he could simply utter his magic words and escape easily.
