Chapter 466

The monsters hissed, and the one with the spear cocked back its arm and threw. As it flew, the spear lengthened, turning into an actual lightning bolt. The air around it ignited.

Sam curled his lip, and swung his hammer like a baseball bat, impacting the tip of the lightning bolt. The stream of electricity poured into the weapon, causing Sam to grunt as it was channeled into his body. For a brief moment, the amount of energy was such that it split around the weapon’s head, and impacted his body. Then he exerted his will, and commanded the lightning bolt to fall under his command.

The energy sparked around his hammer, causing it to shake. Sam brought it under control slowly, keeping his mind focused on his weapon. Eventually, the energy was captured, and his body stopped smoking. The two monsters gazed at him, curiosity in their eyes. Then they both thrust their arms to the sky, causing the rampant lightning above to condense. Their bodies turned to energy, and the clouds descended to meet them. Sam watched as the elementals turned to bolts of lightning, merging with the clouds above.

Thunder boomed as the clouds swirled, and lightning gathered above Sam. He raised his hammer, and released his control over the captured elemental energy. A surge of lightning rose up to meet the incoming elementals, the energy playing across the sky. Sam grimaced as he felt a sudden weight press down upon himself. The elementals were more attuned to the power of lightning than he was, and they quickly overcame his barrage. A moment later, two lightning bolts struck on either side of him, reforming into the shapes of the two leonids. Both swung at the same time, their fists turning into blades of light.

Sam slammed his hammer against the ground, marshaling his will. His Dao sought out the Dao in the world around him, and his enhanced mind worked at a feverish pace. He subconsciously cataloged the Dao energy contained within the elementals’ blades, and then applied an equal but opposite force to them.

The blades shuddered, and then winked out of existence. The elementals continued on their path, but ultimately hit nothing. Then Sam’s weapon started on a blurring arc, straight towards his enemies. The elementals restructured their forms, but it was too little, too late. Multiple thresholds in Strength combined with the might of a Perfect Ascension, sending his hammer on a course that broke through the sound barrier many times over. The elementals didn’t stand a chance.

His hammer cleaved through their forms like a knife through butter, and the tide of Dao energy that followed it finished the job. As his hammer finished its arc, he teleported away, watching as the cores of power within the elementals began to detonate.

A maelstrom of electricity swept over the battle scarred bone beneath, but Sam was already long gone. He looked down on the explosion from above, and then waited for the floor to change. It was time for the boss battle, and he was the most excited he had been so far in the Tower.

The floor ended, and his title upgraded, filling him with more power. At this rate, he would gain more stats points than in multiple levels without leveling up once.

As soon as he appeared on the tenth floor, he instantly felt a difference. He was standing upon a flat disc of white rock, suspended in a void of purple lightning. On the far end of the disc, a being sat on a throne. Instead of being like the monsters of the previous floors, it was made out of flesh and blood rather than elemental energy. Pure white fur coated a humanoid body, and long claws extended from its fingers. Lightning crackled along the fur, causing it to stand on end.

“It has been some time since a climber has made it to me so quickly,” the being said, levering itself out of the throne. “I welcome the challenge.”

“Finally, an enemy that can talk properly,” Sam responded. He quickly scanned the creature.

Makaros, King of the Storm(Elite)

Level 170

It had both a name and a high degree of sapience. Perhaps this would be a battle that proved some measure of challenge.

“I assume my subjects were of no trouble to you, challenger. I assure you, I will be a different story.”

“I certainly hope so.”

Sam blurred forward, teleporting in the blink of an eye. His hammer rose and fell, streaking down towards the throne. A comet of blue and red followed it. Makaros smiled, and snapped his clawed fingers. A bolt of lightning fell from the heavens, enveloping him. Sam’s hammer struck the now empty throne, smashing it into tiny pieces.

He whirled around, instinct from many battles propelling him, just in time to block an outstretched claw. Makaros smiled broadly, his claw struggling against Terra’s Will. However, the weapon did not budge.

A bolt of energy erupted from Makaros’ finger, and bent around the hammer’s head, striking Sam. Not willing to lose the initiative so quickly in the battle, Sam coated his body in Dao energy, and resisted. The thread of lightning continued potent Dao insights, but they were only of the first layer of the Dao Seed realm, rather than the second like Sam’s were.

There was almost no contest between the two, and Sam simply shrugged the attack off. Then he teleported behind Makaros, and struck out with his left fist. Throwing off the balance of the battle, he was able to ensure that Makaros did not react in time. The King of the Storm was expecting a blow from the hammer, but the punch was carried out in less than half the time.

A blast of energy erupted in the small of the lion man’s back, knocking him off his feet, blood spraying from the wound. Lightning struck once more, and the injury began to heal over. Sam slammed his will down onto the residual energy lingering in the wound, and sealed it off from outside help. Makaros grimaced as his healing suddenly stopped.

“I see why you reached this level so quickly. You are a cut above the rest.”
