Chapter 425

Closing his notifications, Sam let out a sigh and sat back, thinking about how far he had come. Many of the Titans had fallen, to his own hands, and he felt better about the future to come. At his current rate of growth, he was surpassing most by far, and those who could keep up with him were monsters like the Overlord, and those who followed him into battle. Eduardo, Talnor and the others were reaping the rewards from their friendship with Sam, and he did not begrudge them in the slightest. More fighters was always a good thing.

Idly drumming his fingers on the side of his chair, Sam opened up his stat sheet. It was time to see if he should allocate some more of his free points.

He had over a hundred, but none of his stats were in any special need of boosting. The way his stat spread worked, all of his weaknesses were covered. In the end, it hardly mattered, as long as he made sure that one did not outpace the others. He could allocate some into Constitution, but decided to wait as it would be more effective if he was ever injured, providing a buffer against death that could not be removed by the same attack that injured him.

His curiosity dissipated after a few moments, and he found a longing to meditate on the nature of his Dao. He withheld for the sake of the others, but he wished there was a way for him to cultivate without sucking all of the energy out of the air around him.

A glint of light coming out of the window on the bottom of the ship caught his eye, and he grinned. Perhaps there was a way.

A few minutes later, with the others none the wiser, Sam was outside the ship, teleporting alongside it. With his enhanced reaction time, he was just barely able to teleport at a speed that matched that of the ship. After reaching an equilibrium with his skill, he started to meditate upon the nature of his Dao. To his surprise, channeling his skill as he did so seemed to allow him to tap into a greater degree of power than normal, boosting his Dao comprehension. However, it was just about enough to make up for the fact that his focus was severely impaired by having to use his teleportation ability at the same time.

He let out a cry of joy as he was finally able to cultivate fully, and sank deep into meditation. As the wind whipped past him at supersonic speeds from the passing of the nearby ship, he found himself at peace in visions of the concept of the Avenger. There was certainly a lot of metaphysical fodder for him to focus upon, as he had a litany of enemies. Many of them were dead, but many more still lived.

A few hours later, he ceased, and entered the ship once more, a tricky and slightly nerve wracking maneuver that required over a dozen chained teleports, as well as a degree of focus that was rare for him to enter.

The others meditated in peace, their minds swirling with whatever insights their Daos necessitated. With his superior senses, Sam could read the signatures of their Daos as he entered. Eduardo, with his shining beacon of light that seemed to channel the righteous rage of a man seeking to keep moored in his sea of faith within a world far removed from his former existence. Lao, with his cyclical loop of blue power that twisted endlessly upon itself, always maintaining balance. Jeffrey, giving off an aura of supreme focused will, redolent with the knowledge that his attacks would always strike true.

Finally, there was Talnor, the least familiar of the four men to Sam. He had known him for the least amount of time, but he was sure of the alien’s loyalty. He had done the man’s faction a great favor, and it was being returned. His Dao was that of some personal path, wreathed in lightning, duty and honor. Whatever it was, its concept was too strange to read from his Dao, but the gist was clear enough.

Sam’s own Dao overshadowed them all though, a pillar of surety, in his power, his resolve and his ability to avenge himself and his allies. A twisting beam of light stretching to the heavens and beyond, showing the lengths that he would go to pursue his power, the Dao Seed of the Avenger took up an unusually grandiose form, at least compared to his previous Daos. The further that he walked along his path, the clearer the form of his Dao.

Sitting down, he enjoyed the last few minutes of flight, clearing his mind of everything. There were still Titans to fell, and his hand would not be stayed, not by man or god.
