The bear and the rest of the corpses around the dungeon faded away into mist and a rush of power entered Sam. Three items clattered to the ground where the bear had lain and Sam rushed over to them. A small version of the bear’s paw lay next to a miniature model of its blood cannon. Finally, a set of the bear’s teeth lay on the ground, faintly glowing with a red light. Sam checked on his companions before he picked the items up. They were both on the ground, but out of exhaustion rather than anything else. Both of them had leveled up during the fight, and Sam had as well, but he was going to wait to see it. He picked up the first item and analyzed it.
Juvenile Dire Bear Mace
G-Rank Weapon(Mace)
A mace fashioned after the paw of a Juvenile Dire Bear. As it served as a devastating weapon in life, so it functions as one after death. A small amount of the spirit of the bear lingers inside it, allowing for a once a day use of the innate power of the mace.
Weapon Skill:Dire Bear’s Roar. Once per day, you can trigger the effect of the weapon. A blast of energy will erupt out of the mace in the direction of your enemies as well as boosting your physical stats for one minute.
Dungeon Drop:Awaiting Soul Bond.
The weapon looked promising to Sam and he had a strange feeling when he realized that this was exactly what he was looking for. Had the System read his mind to create the perfect weapon for him as a reward? As he looked at the other weapons, he saw that they seemed tailor made to his companions.
Ursine Blood Cannon
G-Rank Weapon(Gun)
A gun fashioned after the natural adaptations of a Juvenile Dire Bear. It functions much as the original bear’s weapon did, shooting condensed balls of blood. This drains the user’s mana pool. If the special ability is used, the balls can be supercharged.
Weapon Skill:Blood Shot. You can spend health to add damage to the shots of the weapon.
Dungeon Drop:Awaiting Soul Bond.
Ursine Jaws
G-Rank Weapon(Atypical)
These small versions of a Juvenile Dire Bear’s jaws can be placed on top of the user’s teeth, empowering their natural bite strength and damage.
Weapon Skill:Chomp. Once per day, increase damage and strength of a single bite by 100%.
Dungeon Drop:Awaiting Soul Bond.
Sam carried over the weapons to his companions, as he had no idea what he was supposed to do with them. Jeffrey smiled as he approached.
“Ah, that’s good. Dungeon weapon drops are quite rare. Do you see anything to your fancy?”
Sam hefted his mace and showed it to Jeffrey. He then tossed the gun to Jeffrey and the teeth to Rax. The birdman examined the weapon thoughtfully for a moment. Then he smiled
“I’ve heard of this in legends before but I’ve never expected to encounter it in real life. It is said that when one is marked by the attention of the System, they are personally guided by it. The chance of us all getting uniquely tailored weapons from a dungeon drop is too rare to be just chance. I’m really glad that I decided to stick around with you.”
Rax growled appreciatively as he slotted the teeth in. They looked menacing as he mimed chomping into something with them.
“Huh, it must have been the Dao thing. Would being the universal first for something enough to garner the System’s attention?”
Jeffrey nodded.
“Most definitely. Also, when are you going to soul bind that weapon? It’s going to dissipate if you leave it for too long.”
Sam grasped for the weapon in panic.
“How do you soul bind it?” he said hurriedly.
The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.
“You need to spill a drop of your blood on it. Here, like this.” Jeffrey slit his finger on a small spike on the gun, letting the drop of blood drip onto the barrel of the cannon. The weapon glowed for a moment and then went back to normal. Sam used one of the claws at the end of the weapon to cut himself, surprised at how easily it cut into him. He had increased his Resilience by a decent amount and he had found that normal weapons were hard pressed to harm him. He dropped the blood onto his mace and gasped as a strange feeling overtook him. The mace sent a wave of energy into his hand, moving up and down his body before going back into the weapon.
Congratulations, you have soul bound this weapon.
Now that he didn't have to worry about the mace, he asked Jeffery a question.
“You said something about the weapon disappearing? Why would that happen?”
“The System doesn't like the idea of people getting their hands on powerful dungeon weapons without earning them. If someone like you tried to soul bind an E Rank weapon, then it would burn your soul out from the strain. Even if it didn’t then it would be very hard to wield. Higher tier weapons tend to be ridiculously heavy. Of course, not all weapons of the same Rank are made equal, but the higher end ones are very hard to get.”
Sam nodded, that made sense to him. Perhaps the System wasn't as bad after all. Suddenly, the sky started to crack and a black mist started to pour into the dungeon. Jeffrey’s eyes bulged.
“Damnit, I lost track of time! Quickly, to the safe room!” They ran across the rapidly fissuring ground to the room and threw themselves into it as the world behind them crumbled away. With a flash of bright light, they found themselves outside of the dungeon.
Sam and the others let out a sigh as they collapsed to the ground next to the dungeon entrance.
“What was that?” Sam asked Jeffrey.
“Dungeons collapse after they are cleared, Sorry, I forgot about that. I haven’t been in a dungeon for decades.”
Sam shot a look at Jeffrey.
“Decades? Just how old are you?”
“I know I don’t look it,” Jeffrey said, smiling, “ but I’m over 300 years old.” Sam was hit by a feeling of crushing despair
“You said you were F Rank before you came here, right?”
Jeffrey nodded.
“Yeah, why?”
“Damn, if it took you that long to reach that level, then I really am screwed. This universe only has 100 years until the forces of an Ascendant are coming. I don’t really know how strong Tantalos Veruvax is, but he's probably pretty powerful, much more powerful than I can get in a century.”
“Didn't you buy that information crystal from a merchant with information on him, why don’t you read that?”
Sam nodded, he had completely forgotten about that. He pulled out the crystal and was about to use it, but then realized that they were in the middle of the woods.
“Jeffrey, can you guard me when I’m reading?”
“Of course. I’m level 13 now. Did you check your logs after the battle?” Sam had forgotten about those. He quickly opened up his System interface and checked.
You have killed a Mature Darian Dingo(x17)!
You have killed a Juvenile Dire Bear!
You have leveled up! (x2)
He had gained more levels from that one fight than he had in the last few days. That bear had been no joke, it was only because of his skill that he had been able to even the field of battle. It had been a bit since he had checked his stat sheet and he pulled it up.
