Chapter 292

Sam had been taken from his home, and thrust into what could only be described as purgatory. A battle raged across hundreds of square miles, tearing across the land of the planet that he had been teleported to by his ring. High up in the sky, a trio of ethereal moons orbited the planet, all that stood between it and a ghostly sun, glimmering faintly in the distance.

Coronas of blue light rose out of the surface of that faraway star like whips of pure energy, and Sam gazed at it for a moment, struck by the otherworldly beauty of the scene that he had been transported into. The planet was quite cold, and the ground was near frozen, and was as hard as rock to Sam’s feet. It was a great field for battle, which was probably why there was one going on here.

So far, there was no sight of his supposed mentor, only this titanic conflict, that he was now inexplicably a part of. Even worse, it seemed that there was no such thing as a neutral side here.On top of this already concerning situation, both of the warring armies seemed to view him as a threat.

Sam parried blows and dodged around beams of magical force as he tried to find out just what the hell was going on. He had not prepared for something like this, and it was certainly not going as planned. Instead, he would have to fight his way out of this place.

Seeing as these aliens had attacked him for no apparent reason, his Dao was fine with him slaughtering them, not that he actually could do so all that well, seeing as most of them were F Rank. As he worked his way through the nearby forces, he began to parse what was going on here.

There were two distinct races fighting here, one of some vague reptilian species, that could have been anything really, and another one of some sort of originally aquatic species, with gills and fins for hands. Still, those fins were capable of wielding weapons and guns just as well as a hand, contorting in ways that caused Sam’s own hands to twinge in discomfort.

Great conflagrations of apocalyptic force erupted in the distance, the result of many high powered weapons being triggered at once. The faint outlines of missiles streaked across the battlefield, and a few high powered mana based attacks followed, coming from massive cannons set up on both sides. Those explosions were easily as powerful as nuclear bombs, but none of the aliens batted an eyelid at them. There did not seem to be any sort of radioactive aftereffect though, so they were likely the result of mana enhanced technology.

Sam weaved around a blow from a nearby soldier, and slapped their weapon into the ground, causing the earth to explode outwards. His hammer reversed its course, and tore the alien’s head off, sending it flying over the heads of its fellows. They growled at Sam, and redoubled their efforts, only to be interrupted by a sudden charge from another unit of enemy aliens. It was utter chaos, and probably the only reason why Sam had not died already.

Despite their individual weakness, these beings were packing some serious force, and their weaponry clearly had been adapted to the System far more greatly than that of Earth. Vast spacecraft hovered in the atmosphere, lurking above the planet like vast behemoths of the void. They were the source of some of the more powerful attacks, and also seemed to be the fleet of the reptilian beings. The fish-like entities were streaming out of a vast citadel in the far distance, which was disgorging seemingly never-ending numbers of them onto the surface of the world. They were only visible as a dark tide from here, but Sam was able to see enough to figure out what was going on.

He knew that he had to leave the battlefield if he wanted to survive, but as of now, he could not see any way out. The battle stretched for dozens of miles in every direction, and the strength of the soldiers did not diminish the further that he went. He had no idea why there were so many F Rankers here, but he knew that he would not survive much longer if they decided to launch a concentrated effort to wipe him out; he was clearly an outlier here, both in his style of weapon and of his armor. He was certainly not on either side, and as a result, he was being targeted left and right.

Coruscating beams of power slammed into his armor every now and again, sending lances of heat into his body, which scorched his skin. He was killing off the nearby aliens as fast as he could, but all that it did was send him essence, rather than getting him out of his predicament.

Sam roared in rage, and his Dao blossomed within him, filling him with more power. He began to learn upon his supernatural weapon prowess, and let his hammer guide his strikes, sending it into the best possible places to strike. He began to become one with his weapon as he fought, and he started to achieve things that the normal Sam could never have done, such as deflecting energy blasts midair with his weapon.

Mjolnir was like a streak of blood flecked lightning in the air as he swung it, the large hammer reaping its toll upon the enemy soldiers. Soon, Sam was surrounded by an even larger horde, all baying for his blood. Worse, it seemed that the aliens had decided to put aside their differences for a bit in order to deal with him.

Sam would have been enraged at this normally, but from beneath the fog of his battle trace, he only registered it dimly. His mind was still very active, but his emotions were dulled, all the better to let him use his weapon properly. He and his hammer were one, and they would batter any enemies into submission.

A trio of sword wielding aliens came racing in from the right, supported by heavy covering fire from behind. Sam whirled his hammer end over end around his body, deflecting the strike, and sending them back towards his assailants. A few of them struck home, and the aliens wailed in pain, but kept running towards Sam.

He bent low, and rushed the aliens, dragging his hammer along the ground and drawing up the conceptual power of Earth through his elemental mastery. The hammer began to grow heavier, and Sam lifted it at the last moment, whipping around towards the aliens. They barely had a chance to scream before his strike wiped all three of them out with a single blow, sending blood rocketing over the heads of their fellows.
