Chapter 388

As the ship moved, Sam cultivated his Dao, sinking into a deep trance. He thought over the meaning of his travels, and how they meshed with his twin Daos. He could sense the beginning of a resonance between his Daos, but was not sure of what the end product would be. He knew that it was something to do with the pursuit of justice, but the actual manifestation was still a mystery. The never ending stream of insights that his existence as a Dao Incarnation created swirled around him like a flock of birds. The insights were microscopic individually, but they built together into a greater whole.

Sam’s consciousness flashed between them as he cultivated, picking out the best options to fit into his current understanding. After what felt to him like mere seconds, the ship started to slow down, causing him to snap out of his trance. The air around him felt far hotter than before, and the glass pane on the bottom of the ship was almost whited out by the sheer heat being projected by something on the ground below.

The ship controller quickly did something to the glass that filtered the blinding light, revealing a display of apocalyptic devastation. A mile wide trench had been dug into the ground far into the distance, and its bottom glistened with molten rock. Nearby, the Titan itself could be seen, marching through an entire mountain without pausing. It looked like a massive, humanoid pillar of light, with its radiance far outshining the sun above. Sam simply stared at it for a moment, awestruck. Then he remembered why he had come here. He commanded the ship controller to open the hatch, and began to gather up as much power as he could. The Titan itself was seemingly oblivious to his presence, which was just as well.

A crackling spear of power gathered in Sam’s hands, before streaking off towards the monster's head. It slammed home with a thunderous detonation, finally getting the attention of the Titan. It opened its mouth, revealing an even brighter inside, and then belched out a beam of pure radiance that scorched the air itself into oblivion. A thunderous bang rang out as the vacuum left by the beam collapsed into itself. A shockwave buffeted the ship, narrowly pushing it out of the way. Sam had been prepared to teleport, but it was not needed.

Without any prompting, the ship took off, streaking back towards the city with the Solar Titan in hot pursuit. The ship was moving at the peak of its potential, but the Titan was almost as fast. Sam could not help but watch through the open hatch as the sun-like being obliterated everything in its way. Sam kept on tossing Sky Splitting Vengeance down at the monster, but it did not cause any noticeable damage. That was likely because the monster was made of pure energy, rather than being from its complete superiority to Sam. At least, he hoped so.

The ship ride back felt far longer than the way there, and Sam spent the entire time wondering if he was about to die. However, he kept robotically churning out attacks as fast as he could, spraying pure power at his enemy. By the end, he could have sworn that its radiance had dimmed significantly. However, it was still going strong.

By the time the city came into sight, Sam let out a cheer, and spurred himself on, casting two skills at the same time. His regeneration rate had been put to the test over the last few hours.

A moment later, as the monster crossed into the plain surrounding the city, a crackling hum filled the air. In the center of the city, energy began to gather, creating a spear of pure mana, dozens of feet long. A moment later, the Superior Mana Cannon fired, sending its load streaking towards the Titan. It impacted with the force of a nuclear bomb, blasting apart the monster’s fiery form. The Titan let out a scream of rage and pain, and forced itself back together again. It was noticeably smaller than before. This was a battle that would have to be fought at range, as the monster was too dangerous for anyone other than Sam and the captains to engage, mainly because of its heat. Besides, most of Sam’s skills were severely weakened against the creature. In this battle, mages would be key to victory.

The ship touched down a few moments later, leaving Sam standing on the city wall.

Sam immediately began to meditate to regain his lost Dao energy and mana, and ignored the overtures of the guards nearby. All of them were trying to talk at the same time, rather than actually fighting. A few moments later, they seemed to realize what they were doing, and went back to manning their siege weaponry. As the thousands of cannons and ballistas that lined the city walls fired in unison, the Solar Titan began to charge. The blast from the Superior Mana Cannon had been effective, but it had been far from something that could kill the monster.

Meanwhile, Sam focused on gathering as much power as he could. He had an important role here. Because of his strengths in the realm of energy manipulation, it would be up to him to land the finishing blow with his strongest attack, using his teleportation abilities to escape the ensuing devastation. However, the Titan would have to be weakened first.

As it moved, it left massive craters, burned into the earth. If it had not been a creature made of energy, it would have shook the earth with every stride. In many ways, the Solar Titan was even more imposing than the Corpse Titan had been. It was as bright as the sun, and if not for the power of the city guards, everyone would have been blind by now. Instead, wave after wave of power coursed through the air, barraging the Titan every few seconds. Only the energy attacks dealt their full damage, and they were too weak to do much in any case. The Titan had the equivalent of millions of health points from the combination of its size and unique composition.
