Sam was starting to realize that the threshold notifications were written as if it was expected that the person who had crossed it was focusing solely on that stat. It showed him yet again just how much of an aberration he was.
You have passed the Second Threshold of Intelligence.
Those who step onto the path of intellectual might generally have the same goal. That of Omniscience. To know everything that there is to know, to be undefeatable in the realm of the mind. However, only those who are truly worthy to walk this path realize that such a thing is impossible.
Closing the notification, Sam took a breath, trying to calm himself down. That had been a lot more involved than he had expected. He had gained far more out of it than he had originally been aiming for. However, he was physically and mentally exhausted from his exertion. He really needed a bit of a break. Before doing so, he opened the final notification.
You have gained a title!
Superior Mortal: Ancient
You have crossed all of your second thresholds while still in F Rank, a feat that few manage. This marks you as a true elite, in every sense of the word. Some recompense is due for that.
Bonuses: +10% to the efficacy of all stats
The power of the new title coursed through him, and he let out a contented breath. It still did not take away from his exhaustion however. With a sigh, he rose from his seat. Perhaps having a little bit of fun would not be such a bad idea after all.
Sam walked out into the city, taking off his helmet as he did so. At his current rank, he rarely ate or drank, but it was still fun to do so now and again. After his ordeal, he certainly deserved something a little stronger than his normal fare. The Manthrox Sect had brought a plethora of artisans, a few of which were brewers. At their current rank, with the influx of resources bought by the money from the Titan corpses, they were able to make beer that would affect even F Rankers.
Sam needed something to help him relax, and this was it. He was suddenly reminded of Gordanus, and his addiction to alcohol, and he let out a short laugh. For someone so powerful to be in the thrall of such a mortal affliction was ironic to say the least. However, there was no problem in indulging now and again.
Sam made his way to the business district, finding a likely looking tavern. It was filled with patrons, and bustled with life. In a world such as this, any opportunity to blow off some steam was welcome. Sam walked in, marveling at the fact that nobody looked up from their drinks. The stuff they were serving here had to be some seriously strong alcohol for nobody to recognize him. In short, it was perfect.
Sam walked up to the bar, and sat down next to a hulking alien warrior, one of the many mercenary conscripts that Talnor had brought to their side. He had four arms, each of which held a tankard of beer. The man was clearly already inebriated, and he fumbled with his tankards as Sam sat down, trying to move them out of the way.
“Greetings there, stranger,” the man said, slurring prodigiously. He tried to clap Sam on the back, but then realized that all of his hands were full.
Sam simply smiled, and placed his own order. The barkeep, a slight human woman, gave him a smile. She clearly recognized him, but did not say anything. Sam looked around, and saw a few of the alien captains sitting in a corner, drunk out of their minds. Perhaps that explained why nobody was surprised at his presence. Even elites needed to relax sometimes.
The woman returned with a frothing pint of dark brown beer, which hummed with a faint power. It was imbued with mana, and when Sam took a sip, he almost coughed. It was some strong stuff. He smiled, and took a gulp, savoring the flavor. Not only was it powerful enough to affect him, it tasted good as well. Such a combination was rare, even on Old Earth. Either you got something that tasted like gasoline and made you regret your life decisions after a few shots, or beer, which was basically like glorified water.
Sam took another gulp, and sighed as the calming effect of the beer started to take effect. It was a feeling that he had not been able to enjoy for months. Sam had always been fond of a drink now and again, but never in excess. He had known people at the diner who had ruined their lives with addiction, whether to alcohol, drugs or other vices. However, a bit of fun now and again was fine, with regulation. In this new world, there were many reasons to drink. Not least of which was the fact that hangovers were a thing of the past.

A few minutes later, Sam was pleasantly buzzed, and he leaned back in his chair, opening up his status sheet. He was ready to see the changes now. Surrounded by allies in a place that was warm and safe, he felt good about himself and his prospects for the first time in a while. The existential dread that was always lurking around the corner was pressed to the back of his mind. He knew that it was only the effect of the beer, but it still felt nice.
