Sam grinned like an idiot at the stat sheet, and then let out a small laugh. Perhaps he had overestimated his tolerance a little bit. However, he knew that he could always cleanse the alcohol from his system with Girdings of the Arbiter. As he sat there, nursing his drink, a messenger raced into the bar, seeming to be extremely flustered. Sam turned around, smiling foolishly, until he saw the expression on the woman’s face. Sensing that something important was happening, he immediately expunged the alcohol from his body with his skill, returning him to his normal mental state.
“The city is being attacked!” The woman shouted. “All able-bodied fighters are being called to the walls.”
Sam got to his feet and grabbed his hammer, before putting his helmet back on. He was starting to get a bit annoyed. Was it truly impossible for him to ever catch a break in this world? He rushed out of the bar, followed by the others who were not too drunk to move. He gazed up at the forcefield, which was being barraged by a steady stream of darkness. A massive, shadowy figure loomed over the walls of the city, grinning at them. The sun had almost vanished behind the darkness that was spreading across the sky. There was only one monster that could do something like this. The Twilight Titan, of the element of Darkness. As space was one of the sub elements of Darkness, it would have been easy enough for the monster to teleport to wherever it wanted to go. Like a fool, Sam had forgotten about that, and most of his captains had as well.At least the proceeds from the Solar Titan’s core had been pumped into the defenses.
Although the shield was being pressured, it was still holding strong. Bolts of energy rocketed up into the sky towards the monster, and the Superior Mana Cannon was charging up a shot. However, this Titan seemed to have a great degree of control over its body, and it avoided a large portion of the attacks by splitting its body as they neared. The city defenders were no fools however, and a coordinated strike on the head caused it to freeze in place for a few seconds, enough time for the Superior Mana Cannon to fire. A spear of blazing light shot up into the firmament, and impacted the monster’s head. A shockwave of power blasted apart the shadowy form of the monster, and for a brief moment, Sam thought that it was dead. Then a booming laugh rang out over the city.
“Pitiful. How did my brethren fall to you?” The Titan intoned, laughing as it did so.
Sam ignored the taunt, and spotted the shadowy figures flying through the air outside the city. That was probably why they were being called to defend the walls. Some of the monsters were using spatial abilities to phase through the city wall, and were harassing the defenders.

Sam gritted his teeth, and started to chain teleport towards the walls. He appeared next to one of the flying monsters, driving his hammer into its head. With his massive bonuses from his threshold crossing, his weapon descended like a thunderbolt, blasting apart the ethereal monster with ease. He teleported dozens of times over the next few minutes, blasting monsters out of the sky. With his fourth stage Dao Fragment, as well as his Dao Echo, he had enough Dao energy to teleport hundreds of times, a far cry from when he had started.
Eventually, he was standing on the wall, watching as the Titan drew back its hand to strike. A spear of darkness formed in its grasp, and it hammered it down into the shield. A strange whirling stream of energy poured out of the spear’s tip, seeming to eat away at the shield. As Sam watched, he realized that the spear was beginning to phase through the energy barrier.
He started to rapid fire his Sky Piercing Wrath skill towards the spear, joined in his efforts by a large portion of the city defenders. As the tip of the spear started to poke through, the energy on the tip started to destabilize. Sam roared, and he upped the ante, sending more power into his attacks. With a massive bang, the energy was fully destabilized. A detonation ripped through the air, reaching beyond the force field.
A rip in space formed, a portal to some unknown destination. A tentacle started to wriggled its way out, a tentacle that was easily a hundred feet wide. Swearing, Sam redirected his power towards the rift, trying to close it through brute force.
The Superior Mana Cannon started to gear up for another shot, and the Crystalline Devastator loosed its own projectile towards the rift. However, it was too late. The rift exploded outwards, letting the full bulk of the monster through. It was a twisted creature, with the vague shape of an octopus. Its massive form was covered in screaming faces, and eyes filled with madness blazed like crimson stars on its face. Sam quickly scanned the monster, scared to see what they were facing up against.
Juvenile Rift Beast

It was beyond the power of his scanning ability, which meant that it was at least E Rank. This was not looking good for the city. However, to their surprise, the monster turned to face the Twilight Titan, who was peering down in confusion. A sudden beam of power erupted out of its mouth, heading straight for the Titan’s head. Sam watched in awe as the monstrosity slithered towards the walls, and towards its summoner. It seemed to have no interest in the city.
Sam was worried that if it managed to defeat the Titan, it would then turn its sights on the city. However, if it left the force field, then it would be unable to attack without breaking through the field. Sam watched as the Titan started to gear up for battle, summoning gauntlets of darkness to its fists. It roared in anger at the sight of this new challenger, and as the Rift Beast launched itself over the wall and through the shield, it whipped one tentacle towards the Titan. The monster met the blow with its gauntleted hand, knocking the attack backwards. With a boom of pressurized air, the battle between the two behemoths began.
