As they walked Sam took in the changes to the town. There were what looked like skyscrapers now, albeit only extending to about ten stories. All of the farms were multilayered now, and everyone looked happy and healthy. They all smiled upon seeing Sam and the others, and he smiled back. It was good to be home. As they neared the city hall, Sam began to feel a prickling on the back of his neck. There was no reason for such a feeling, but as he approached, it grew even stronger. A faint voice started to become audible, and Sam, to his horror, recognized it.
“-a bottle of beer, wench! Did you hear me? I’m one of the faction leader’s old buddies!” The voice on its own was not enough to convince Sam, but as he walked in the doors, and laid eyes on the man who had been shouting, he almost froze. It was Ron.
“Oi, you! You here for my massage?” Ron shouted over at Sam. “The hell you wearing armor for?” Sam sighed, and took off his helmet. Ron froze.
“Sam? Finally! I’ve been waiting for you for ages! You’re some sort of big shot now, huh? I hope you still remember who’s boss though.”
Sam did not speak, too shocked at what he was seeing. The entire thing was almost surreal. Out of all the people to survive the apocalypse, why had Ron been one of them? More importantly, how had he been one of them? The man was a lazy, unmotivated wastrel, and he would surely have died before fighting off any monster.
“Ron, how the hell did you survive?” Sam said, looking the man straight in the eyes.
“Of course I survived! Ron Talienti isn’t going down that easily. I was a crack shot in the sniper’s division of the army before I set up my diner. Apparently I have many natural talents. I broke out the good ol 50. cal when the gremlins came knocking, and I blew off quite a few green heads. What surprised me more was that you, pathetic, vacillating Sam Atlas, had made it out alive too.”
“Do you know this man?” Claude asked Sam, eyeing Ron with distaste.
“Unfortunately. He was my boss before the System came. It seems as if he is the same person as before.”
“Whaddya mean by that?” Ron said, squinting at Sam. Sam suddenly realized that the man was extremely drunk. “You inuiting-hic-insinuating something about me, boy?” The drunken belch at the middle of that entrance wafted beery fumes over everyone, and Sam sucked in a deep breath to prevent himself from punching Ron. If he did so, he would probably kill the man. Instead, he used his aura on him. Ron shrieked in terror, and then collapsed, falling off the chair.
“Get him somewhere where he’s not a nuisance to anyone,” Sam said.
“With pleasure,” Claude replied, before picking up the replete form of Ron and carrying him away. Sam rubbed at his forehead, feeling a migraine starting to build. He had never thought of Ron even once since the first day of the apocalypse, and now the man was suddenly here, in the flesh. Sam shook his head and temporarily banished the distraction from his mind. He had some things to discuss, but firstly he had a very important ceremony to go through. It was time for him to gain his new class. If he waited any longer, each subsequent level up would be wasted, and Sam needed as much power as he could squeeze out of himself as possible.

“Right. I have something to do, guys, but I’ll be back soon. I want a report on the changes to the city in my absence, if that’s not too much trouble,” Sam said as he made his way towards the stairs. The war room would be a good place for this. Behind him, the others scrambled off to find the information that Sam was looking for.
As he entered the war room, he searched for a good place to sit. There was a small mat on the far end of the room, and Sam walked over, before sitting down. For some reason, a cross legged position was the best of any sort of cultivation, although Sam did not know why. Sam opened up his pending class change ceremony, and pressed yes. He was transported away to another place, one that was very familiar. Floating in the void of space, three figures stood, and from what Sam could tell, they were all quite powerful. There was no System Battery or Heavyweight class anymore.
Sam floated over to the first one, and inspected it. It was a burly man clad in armor, holding a shining mace. He was not grotesquely muscular however, and his stance seemed refined. Just by looking at the way that he was holding his mace, Sam could feel insights into the nature of his weapon germinating within his head. Sam opened its description, and read it to himself.

It was another Legendary class, but not one that Sam wanted. It would tear him away from his Dao path, and he had faith that he could find something better. The next figure was far more promising. The same elderly man that had been in the image for his Dao Visionary class before had returned, only this time he was on a raging battlefield. His fists were coated in the light of his Dao, and transparent armor girded his form. Both of the man’s eyes were glowing, and a mountain of corpses lay beneath his feet. Sam’s heart beat faster as he took it in, and he quickly checked its description.

This is what Sam was looking for. He almost selected this class there and then, but there was still the third one left. This class was incredible, but it would prioritize his physical stats over all else. That was not necessarily a bad thing, but it meant that his previously balanced build would go out the window. It still would allow him to place the same amount of stat points into his mental stats, but he was expecting a little bit more. If the other class was no better, Sam would take this one.
Moving onto the final figure, Sam stopped in his tracks. This figure emanated such a profound aura of the Dao that Sam could feel it, even though it was just an image. A swirling corona of power hid the face of the man from view, but that did not matter. Sam knew that this one was for him, and when he opened the description, that belief was only further cemented.
