Chapter 366

Another roar of rage erupted out its mouth, and a shockwave of energy exploded outwards. Sam did not teleport in time, and the wave of power scoured his body, sending black veins of poisoned blood spider webbing across his form. Burning pain erupted within him, causing his skin to feel as if it was being melted. If he did not do something soon, his death was imminent.

With a grin, he pumped thirty stat points into Resilience, in batches of three. That brought his stat up by forty points, as a result of his multiplier kicking in. Immediately, he felt a difference. His body began to resist the encroaching wave of darkness, allowing him to shrug off its effects, with the help of his Dao energy. Smiling, he teleported forwards. It was time to finish this.

His hammer rose above his head as he fell like the gavel of some god-like judge. The sky itself seemed to light up as his energies coursed into the weapon. As it reached a blinding white radiance, he brought it down, slamming it into the wyrm’s forehead. With its immense size, it was unable to dodge. Sam chained teleports backwards, trying to get out of the blast wave. Where the wyrm was, a nova of light expanded outwards, tearing its bones apart. The air shook as a colossal explosion ripped apart the wyrm and the surrounding hundred feet or so of space. The air rushed back in with a bang, filling the vacuum caused by the strike. Essence poured into Sam in a massive tide, sending him shooting up three entire levels. Such was his pride at his power that he barely noticed the pain of his level ups. The damage was still within the limits of his Resilience, especially with his new addition to the stat. Such were the benefits of possessing strength beyond one’s level.

Sam let gravity take hold, diving down towards the melee below. His hammer started to blaze with light as he fell, heralding his descent to smite the undead below. A ragged cheer rose up from the defenders as he fell like a portent of divine judgment. His hammer landed with the force of a bomb, eviscerating a small horde of low level undead. Their pulped flesh and bone scattered everywhere, and Sam landed a moment later, barely making a noise. As he rose, he scoured the battlefield for a worthy opponent, eventually setting his eyes on a titan of yellowed bone that was making a dent in the defenders’ ranks. It looked like a centaur, but was over fifty feet tall. Sam raced towards it, his body smashing through the weaker monsters around him. Taking a running leap, he was soon in the air, clearing a hundred feet in a single leap.

His hammer rose and fell, slamming into the right foreleg of the monstrosity. There was a crack as the bone shattered, causing the beast to stumble. Sam pushed off and rocketed towards its head, sending a mana enhanced blow straight into its chin. The creature rocked back as the attack detonated, tearing a large piece of its head off. From there on, it was a slaughter, plain and simple. The creature was barely able to move, and Sam flashed around it like the world’ deadliest mosquito. His massive stat multiplier allowed him to match the strength of a creature many times his size. However, the weight that it could bring to bear was beyond him. Luckily for Sam, he never got hit.

He flitted around the creature, shattering its bones with every strike. However, this was not especially indicative of his strength. The creature was only around his level of strength, after all. As in his numerical level, not his actual power. The wyrm had been a far harder battle than this one was.

Eventually, he reached its head, caving it in with a single mana enhanced blow from his hammer. Essence entered him, but a pitifully small amount compared to what he had gained from the wyrm. Sam let himself fall to the ground from the rapidly crumbling head of the undead monstrosity, landing next to his soldiers. They looked at him in awe, and he simply smiled.

Then the looks of awe turned to dread, as a loud cracking noise rang out across the land. It sounded like a mountain was falling apart. Sam turned around, fearful of what he would find. The Corpse Titan roared in triumph as it ripped one massive foot free of the System’s restraints, and then the other one in quick succession. It was finally time for the Titans to rise.

Despite its massive size, the monster moved at speeds that Sam could barely follow. It almost seemed to teleport miles at a time, heading towards the canyon like an unstoppable juggernaut of bone. The ground shook as it took each colossal stride, and all around him, the undead that his soldiers were fighting began to blaze with a purple light. New strength filled their forms as their progenitor approached, and they began to tear into the fighters.

“Retreat!” Sam bellowed. “RETREAT!”

His men started to run back towards the city, and Sam rooted his feet, ready to cover their rears. Jeffrey reached his side a moment later, raking the hordes of undead with his gun. All around Sam, the air began to pulse as he channeled his Dao energy to its fullest. A field of fiery light spread out in all directions. Beside him, Jeffrey unleashed his own aura, a dome of metallic gray energy spreading in all directions. Around Sam, kernels of Dao energy began to form, swiftly transforming into spears of energy. His elemental energy rushed out into the spears, creating a dozen projectiles in the blink of an eye. His Dao energy bottomed out in an instant, but it had been worth it.

A moment later, Jeffrey’s aura imbued the spears with a primal concept of accuracy, limning their forms with the strange metallic energy of his Dao. With a roar, Sam thrust his hands forwards, and a storm was unleashed.
