Chapter 143

They began to flee in terror, but a loud shout from the top of the cyclops, imbued with Dao energy, bolstered their resolve. With eyes glowing a deep red color, they turned around and rushed Sam with no concern for their health. Weapons were thrown aside, and they began to dogpile Sam, burying him beneath their bodies. He lashed out with his fists, pulping the ones near him, but they just kept coming.

Sam growled, and loose the fetters on his wrath, feeling his power explode with the energy of Fiery Justice. A bestial roar echoed out form underneath the pile of aliens, and a moment later a rain of broken bodies fell across the nearby battlefield. Sam was surrounded with a pillar of red light that shot up into the clouds before disappearing. The nearby fighters froze, and Sam's allies became even more powerful than before as the effects of his new skill came to bear. They sped through the enemy lines, breaking holes in their formation and killing them left and right. Sam expelled the last of his rage with a titanic roar that projected a cone of force ten feet in front of him, leaving a furrow in the ground.

At that point, the section of the army directly in front of him broke, and he started for the cyclops. Sam leaped up towards its foot, and then was skewered by a lance of light that he hadn't even seen coming. Salvar withdrew his hand, still glowing from the spell that he had cast, and then pointed at Sam. As the cyclops lumbered off towards the wall, four high G Rank fighters ran towards Sam. They were all between level 45 and 49, but despite the level difference, they were not stronger than Sam. However, Sam was currently indisposed. The spear poking through his back was sending waves of hostile Dao energy into his body with each pulse of the weapon, and it took all that he had to keep it at bay. Salvar’s Dao was more powerful than his own, but not by much, and eventually the power ran out. That was a little too late however, and Sam was clipped under the jaw by a warhammer, sent flying backwards. His head spun as he landed, but other than a massive bruise on the underside of his mouth, he was unharmed.

“That hurt, you bastards!” Sam screamed, using the pain as a catalyst for his Dao. His face contorted in rage, and a demonic light accentuated his features. The four fighters standing opposite from him were unfazed, and they all flared their own Daos, obviously expecting for them to cow Sam. Sam felt the pressure from the Daos, but compared to his own, they were pitifully weak. Not only were they mere Dao Motes, but they were terribly constructed ones too. Compared to the Daos of the fighters of Earth, they were like balls of wool next to balls of steel.

Sam gritted his teeth, and pushed his Dao towards them with all of his might. There was a brief moment of resistance, and then all of their defenses crumbled, exposing them to the full force of Sam’s Dao. They screamed in pain as their skin started to bubble and melt, but Sam’s Dao alone was not enough to kill them. A feminine looking alien wearing a long robe raised her staff and muttered a few words, creating a dome of green light around herself. They all sighed in relief as they were healed, and Sam was eventually forced to withdraw his Dao. The highest leveled alien, the one with the hammer, laughed at Sam.

“You pathetic fool! Did you really think that you could get rid of us that easily?”

Sam ignored the alien's taunt, and instead focused on him. He had seen the man somewhere, and his enhanced memory quickly found where.

“Only four of you survived from the last battle? I’m a bit confused about why exactly you think that you can call me pathetic. You lost to my underlings, did you not?” Sam laughed out loud, shaking his head. His enemies flushed in rage, and the man with the hammer started to channel energy into it. Sam stood there, and continued to laugh, and the hammer wielding alien snarled before charging him.

Sam raised one hand, pumped it full of his Dao energy and mana, holding it out in front of him. When the hammer descended, with enough force to level a small hill, Sam caught it effortlessly. The ground cracked beneath his feet, but he was unharmed. With a cheeky smile, he wrapped his hand around the head of the hammer, and tore it out of the man’s grasp. With a single swing, the alien went flying, slamming into the healer. They both went down, and Sam tossed the hammer back towards its owner.

His demeanor was cocky and designed to infuriate his enemies, but all that he felt inside was rage. The more he humiliated these people with their own weakness, the more they would see the error of their ways. Power was the only constant in the Multiverse, and why should Sam not use it for his own benefit? As long as he remained aligned with his Dao, it was perfectly fine.

Sam rested his mace on his shoulder, and dashed forwards, with his superior stats propelling him faster than his enemies could react to. It took him less than a second to cross the twenty foot gap, and even less than that to crack open the skull of one of the aliens. There were only three left now, and the hammer wielder desperately rooted around in the dirt for his hammer. He lifted it up, and whispered something. A mist of red energy surged out of his body, and filled the hammer. The man swayed, but retained standing. His aura signature suddenly flickered, and then winked out. The hammer began to fall, and Sam's eyes widened. He ran as fast as he could, but it wasn't fast enough.

When the hammer struck the ground, it exploded in a storm of shrapnel and red energy, tearing apart Sam’s armor, and utterly destroying the aliens still standing. One shard pierced Sam’s lung, and he wheezed as the air started to escape into his body. He was dying, with no way to heal.

Remembering that one of the aliens was a healer,he stumbled over to her corpse, and rooted around in a pouch that was hanging from her neck. A moment later, he withdrew a small vial of red liquid, which he downed immediately. A burning sensation traveled up and down his body as his skin knitted back together. His lung healed up, but not all the way. Sam was not going to die anymore, but he was still weakened. He cursed himself for having fallen for that trick, even though there was no way that he could have predicted that. A System notification blared within his vision, and he opened it.

You have killed Tarnus Barl!

You have leveled up!

Sam had only received credit for the alien that he had killed on his own, but it had been enough. Opening up his stat sheet, Sam surveyed where he was at.
