Chapter 294

Sam swore under his breath and brought his hammer up in a tight arc, parrying the first blow. The strength behind it was considerable, but it did not hold up to his own power.

Sam barged in, using his hammer as a wedge, and drove the man backwards a few steps, allowing him to slip between the blades of his fellows. Sam leaped backwards as the reptile alien retaliated, and used the flashing swords of the aliens as a springboard to catapult him backwards. Unlike him, these aliens had clearly focused only on Strength, as their movements were pitifully slow. Sam however, had focused on all of his stats, and the difference in their power was now showing.

The leader of the reptile men spat to his side once more, this time with blood mixed into the saliva. The battle raged on around them, but there was a small circle of clear space around their fight, likely the result of people well trained in avoiding the conflicts of those stronger than them. Sam smiled, although the movement was invisible below his helmet, and advanced, his hammer starting to spark as he sent his power into it.

The aliens stared at his weapon with fear, but also with naked hunger in their gazes, likely prompted by the sight of an artifact tier weapon. They had likely never seen anything the like of Mjolnir before.

Sam grinned as he charged them, and powered forwards at the last moment, drawing his hammer to his side to gather power. Sam reached the aliens a fraction of a second later, and swung his hammer around, crushing the bones of the rightmost man.

The alien roared in pain and tried to grasp at Sam with his bulky arms, but Sam kicked them to the floor midair. It was like fighting against toddlers, or at least beings with their level of agility.

Sam vaulted over the man’s head, and then landed in front of the other two aliens, ducking low under their ponderous strikes, and bringing his hammer up like a reverse lightning strike, straight into the jaws of the alien leader. The man was lifted off his feet and tossed a dozen feet into the air, which was perfect for Sam’s purposes.

As the man came down, Sam built up power in his hammer, and let loose with his full strength, hammering the weapon into the alien as he fell. The man was sent rocketing into the distance, skipping along the ground and bleeding heavily. Sam turned around, to see that the last alien was looking at him with undisguised fear in his eyes. The alien looked like he was trying to decide whether to flee or fight, and Sam made the decision for the man.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

He let his aura loose, and a cloud of red light erupted out of his body, overtaking the alien. With a cry of terror, the man fled, leaving Sam standing between two grievously injured aliens. The one behind him was trying to crawl towards him, but Sam ignored him, focusing on the one that he had batted across the battlefield. The man was still alive, and seemed to be in better shape than expected.

Sam strode forwards, and headed towards the injured man, drawing the attention of the other aliens in the area. He had breached the unspoken zone around the fight, and now the aliens were after his blood again, sending in their beams of energy and gunshots towards him. Sam parried them and blocked them with his hammer, or simply let them skitter off of his armor, focusing on his quarry.

As he neared, the alien snarled, and forced himself to his feet, using his massive sword as a crutch. Sam raised one eyebrow, and waited for the other man to do something.

“You are strong, invader,” the man said. “However, I am one of the weakest of my brethren. You will not find my captain to be such an easy fight.”

The man roared after this, and then started to charge Sam, but suddenly there was a flash of light, and his head fell from his shoulders, bouncing on the ground a few times. There was a massive, hulking specimen of the fish people standing behind the reptile man, holding what looked to be an actual lightsaber in his hands. The weapon had a sword hilt, but the actual blade was a long saber of energy, that had cut through F Rank skin and bone with almost no effort.

The fish man stared at Sam with curiosity in his eyes, and then held out his left hand, a ball of energy growing within it. Sam dove out of the way as a massive beam of power seared past his head. Whoever this man was, he was a cut above the others.

“I know not who you are, but you seem to not be allied to either my people, or the Grakoth. For that, you are a liability. Prepare to face my might!”

The man spoke like a bad action movie character, but his power was very real. At last, Sam was assuming that it was a man, given the mannerisms and the voice. He had no idea how alien biology worked.

The fish man looked to be perturbed by this, but he recovered almost instantly, empowering his next strike with his mana and Dao energy, which Sam felt within he strike. The sword grew in length and power, shining like the sun, and came crashing down on Sam, with a new, metaphysical, weight imbued within it.

Sam groaned, and tried to hold it up with his hammer, but it was like holding up the weight of a planet. He sent his own Dao energy to his arms, and contested the territory with the other man, using his more powerful Dao to wrest back control over the weapon. His own Dao was much stronger, and as a result, he broke whatever skill the fish man was using. That was not surprising, seeing as Sam had been the very first being to gain a Dao within this universe, meaning that his was likely the most powerful by far.

He briefly wondered who the second had been. The man only had possessed an initial stage Fragment, which was not enough to stand up to Sam’s advanced Dao, as well as his secondary one.
