Chapter 421

After the Lawful Titan came the Chaotic Titan, the natural choice for the next target. A massive monster made of swirling energy, in an infinitude of hues and powers, it never held the same shape twice. Vast tracts of the Sahara Desert had been turned to twisted glass by its passing, in which a glimpse into a realm of chaos and madness could be seen. The monster itself was very easy to track, but it left a wake of deadly energy in its path that spawned hordes of lesser elementals.

It was the polar opposite of the Lawful Titan, but its elemental aura was a lot easier to deal with. It seemed that as time progressed, the auras of the Titans grew stronger and stronger, and although it did not have the same array that the Lawful Titan had created, it was still potent even from a distance.

The effects of the aura were muted, given that the natural state of a living being was chaos. Instead, its power was focused on the inert natural world, and the sand grains swirled in strange patterns, even when there was no wind. Rifts in reality opened up every now and again, sometimes disgorging strange, twisted monsters that had no natural analogue. Instead, they seemed to be fashioned from the nightmares of a being so alien to humans that it could not be ever understood. However, they were so alien to this reality that they simply died upon arrival, turning into piles of writhing goo.

Sam and the others learned to ignore them after a time, letting the piercing shrieks of the monsters wash over them.

As they neared their target, Sam spotted something strange. A streak of light raced across the sky, colored a pure scarlet. It looked like a ship, but it was imbued with Dao energy to the point that it left a mark of the air as it passed. As soon as he sensed the energy, Sam grimaced. He knew exactly who it was.

A moment later, a figure, wreathed in red light, leaped from the ship and into the air. A massively oversized weapon was clutched in his hands, the amalgamation of the four armaments that he had collected from the Seven Seals. It was the Overlord, and judging by the aura of power wafting off of him, he had returned from his own training session.

He brought his weapon down towards the Titan like a thunderbolt, and a gargantuan energy blade formed around it, extending outwards for almost thirty feet. Red lightning struck as he fell, and the Titan only had a moment to react. With a thunderous detonation of power, the Overlord whipped his weapon down, and into the monster's outstretched hand. Even as the creature's form shifted, red light seared it, fueled by the Overlord’s own ego. An explosion of light ripped through the Titan’s form, blasting away chunks of its chaotic form.

“Shit!’ Sam cursed as he saw this. “He’s going to steal our kill!”

With a quick glance at the others, he began to teleport forwards, ready to stall the battle until his allies could arrive. As he approached, the Overlord looked directly at him. His mask was gone, and his true face was exposed to the world, the face of Sam’s father. However, that face was contorted with rage and a bottomless pit of arrogance that rendered it almost unrecognizable.

“Sam! There you are,” the Overlord called out as he leaped off the Titan’s arm. “It has been a while, and you have grown much stronger. Not strong enough to defeat me, however.”

“We don’t have time for this,” Sam replied. “If humanity is to survive, we need to take out the Titans first. Can you not save your aggression until then?”

“As it turns out, that’s exactly what I was going to suggest. It’s almost as if we are of the same blood…”

Sam ignored the taunt and raced forwards, imbuing his weapon with power. His hammer blazed with light and he expanded it to its full size, before teleporting up towards the Titan’s ever shifting head.

“Ants cannot kill a being such as me, no matter their number!” The Titan bellowed, sending out a pulse of chaotic energy that warped the world around it.

“Funnily enough, that’s what your sibling said, before we killed him,” Sam replied, grinning. “Your egos tower over even your own forms.”

The Titan roared in rage and raised one fist to the skies. A rift in reality formed, and a tentacled monster fell out, tiny compared to the Titan. A wave of energy pulsed out of the Titan and into its summon, causing it to glow with chaotic light. It undulated towards Sam, its tentacles reaching out to grasp him.

He ducked under a swipe and let loose with his hammer, ramming it into the monster’s flesh. A wave of power erupted out of the weapon, blasting apart the monster. Chunks of foul flesh rained down onto the sands, and the Titan roared in rage.

Sam teleported back into the fray, appearing by his father. The Overlord sneered at him, but did not attack, instead remaining focused on his own task. Both men whaled on the massive form of the Titan as it bucked and struggled beneath them, but such a thing could not continue forever.

A few minutes later, the Titan found a stroke of luck. Its form seemed to disappear in an instant as its chaotic nature came into play, but it was soon revealed that it had shrunken down to about twice the size of a human.

Sam paled. This was bad. The form of the Titans was made to give humans an advantage in fighting the otherwise invincible E Rank beings, but in its current form, the Titan could use its body far more effectively. It still shifted around, but it seemed to have taken control over its general size, allowing it to leverage its strength to the fullest.
