Chapter 418

The rate of attack only sped up, and Sam was forced to use his hammer at its maximum size to break them apart before they arrived. All the while, the mocking laughter of the Titan resounded in the background. Its massive hand came plummeting down towards the knot of flying monsters, but Sam finally found the strength to break free.

He exploded out of the morass with the crack of breaking crystal, his hammer expanded to its maximum size. Every swipe took out multiple monsters, and his Dao Seed’s energy coursed along its length. Trails of energy followed his hammer, breaking through the monsters that remained. Explosions of red and blue light ripped through the constructs, killing them with ease.

Sam flitted away from the mess, and appeared, panting, on a nearby mountain peak. He glared at the Titan, and then spared a glance towards his allies. They continued to layer buffs upon him and provide ranged support, but their role was limited by their lack of power. The Titan knew this, and ignored their paltry assault.

At this point in the battle, Sam took stock of his situation. Both he and the Titan were lightly wounded, but with the removal of the monster’s armor to create the thousands of flying beasts, it was now more vulnerable. The only problem was that those beasts were still alive, or active in whatever state of being they were in.

Sam closed his eyes for a moment, concentrating on his Dao. The comforting power rushed through his veins, and he opened his eyes once more, the whites flashing with the light of his Dao. His hammer flared with power, and he launched himself off of the peak, shooting forwards. He teleported erratically, dodging the assault from the beasts.

The Titan, now diminished in size, held out its hands once more, preparing to summon another weapon. Rather than let this happen, Sam came in like a meteor, phasing through the monsters with his teleportation. His hammer rose and fell upon the Titan’s crystalline head, loosing its charge. The monster bellowed as the attack damaged its true form, and a strange blue liquid trickled down from the cracks. As that blue liquid hit the air that Sam had preserved with his Dao Seed, it started to bubble, vaporizing in a matter of moments. Sam attempted to teleport, but the blue vapor seemed to be a highly concentrated source of Order elemental energy, and it prevented him from doing so.

“Shit!” Was all he had time to say before the Titan swept him out of the air with its hand, cracking bones.

Sam flew down like a meteor, and impacted the ground miles below, moving so fast that he could barely think. He slammed down, cracking the rock beneath himself.Spitting up blood, he scrambled to his feet, fighting through the pain ravaging his body. His only saving grace here was that the Titan was unable to detect him. He only had one option here to stay in fighting shape, but he would need to balance that with keeping the attention of the Titan so that his allies did not die.

As he began to channel the power of the Earth into his body, healing his wounds, he gathered energy in his left hand, forming a spear of energy that he thrust towards the towering form of the Titan. With his superhuman dexterity, he was able to send it on a direct collision course with the monster’s head.

The spear shot up at supersonic speeds, sending a pulse of energy through the impact zone. The Titan shuddered, and slammed its hand down towards the ground. Sam teleported away, the motion tearing at his body and soul. As the fist landed, he continued his healing, drawing more energy from the Earth. The only problem with his healing skill was how slow it was. Normally, using it in a fight would have been a death sentence, but here, where his opponent was a lot slower than he was, it was possible.

Some time later, it was done, and his body was back in fighting shape. All the while, he had pestered the Titan with minimally enhanced projectile strikes. They were enough to distract it, but not enough to drain his own reserves.

Eventually, he rose up from the ground like a phoenix from the ashes, teleporting so quickly that he looked like he was flying. Whipping his hammer around himself to build momentum, increasing its size every rotation, he swung it directly into the Titan’s chin. Fighting these monsters was slow going, but not impossible with all of his thresholds crossed. Balance was key in a fight like this, because of the massive bonuses that each threshold provided. Any lacking stat would have likely caused him to lose.

The Titan’s head whipped backwards, rocking the monster on its feet. Cracks continued to run across the surface of its body, spreading outwards. Pulse after pulse of the monster’s elemental energy flooded out of it, but Sam was immune. His Dao Seed was making this fight possible, if not exactly trivial. If not for his healing skill, he would probably be dead now.

Teleporting back to avoid a claw of Order elemental energy, Sam pumped his Dao energy into his weapon, mingling it with his elemental energy and purified mana. He had a hunch that his new weapon could handle everything that he could put into it. A star was born upon the head of his hammer, and he rushed forwards, teleporting through the grasping hands of the monster, and towards its face. Fear formed upon its craggy features as it felt the power contained within Sam’s weapon. Then he brought it down, and all turned white.

Sam was blasted backwards, his ears ringing and his vision whited out. Chunks of crystal battered his body as he flew backwards, disorientating him. He tried to teleport, but he had no idea where he was. Instead, he simply let gravity take him to the floor of the mountain range.
