Chapter 278

“I was wrong to try to conquer your will. You are a dangerous man, Sam Atlas, and it would not be wise to keep you alive any longer. Farewell, and good luck in whatever afterlife you end up in.”

Hugo Mar raised one hand, preparing to kill Sam. Suddenly, the air above the Legion cracked open, and dozens of small ships poured out of it, firing beams of energy down at the massed hordes. Hugo Mar hissed, and then felt a hand grasp his leg. Looking down, he saw that Sam was getting to his feet, his entire body glowing with pure power.

“You shouldn’t have messed with my faction, you son of a bitch,” Sam growled, the power of his Dao Juggernaut skill amplifying his voice. His hammer whipped forwards like a striking snake, sending Hugo Mar flying backwards, breaking the sound barrier. With a roar of pure rage, Sam leapt after him, his body slowly breaking apart.

Sam’s entire body was filled with such blinding agony that he could barely think straight, and only one objective was still clear in his mind. To kill Hugo Mar. Raising his hammer above his head, Sam sent every last drop of his seemingly infinite Dao energy into his weapon, drawing upon his Dao Juggernaut skill. The hammer started to shake within his hand, almost breaking apart under the strain. Sam ignored it. If he could bear the weight of the skill, then his weapon would have to as well.

He reached Hugo Mar a fraction of a second later, and brought his hammer down. Mar blocked at the last moment, but it barely made a difference. The ground exploded outwards beneath the man, and fissures spread for hundreds of feet in every direction. His arms broke, but he still stayed standing. Sam was quickly succumbing to his skill, and he only had a few seconds left to finish it, which at this speed, was quite a bit longer than it seemed.

Hugo Mar gritted his teeth and punched Sam with all of his might, trying to drive him off, and cause him to waste the remaining time within his transformation. However, Sam rooted himself in the air with the conceptual strength of his Dao, and he battered the other man with his hammer once more, tearing off his arms. Sam could barely hear or see at his point, and all he knew was to keep swinging. He kept driving his hammer into Hugo’s body, and he kept going as long as he could, not knowing whether he had finished the man off or not.

Sam slumped backwards a few seconds later, almost dead from the exertion. The battered body of Hugo Mar lay beneath him, and it gradually turned into black smoke, drifting back towards the Legion. The monsters were filled with the energy, and they suddenly sped up and became stronger than before, as if Mar was using one last trump card to empower his fallen soldiers. After all, it was a hivemind. If they survived, the Legion would potentially be able to resurrect Hugo Mar.

However, the newcomers did not allow this. As the defenders watched in awe, one of the ships touched down on the wall, and a man stepped out. He looked almost human, save for a few minor differences. He was dressed in flowing robes, and was an F Rank fighter.

“We came just in time, it seems,” he said. “I am an elder of the Manthrox Sect, and we are in the debt of your faction leader. I am glad that we could come in time to aid your struggles.”

“What?” Eduardo said. “He never told us about any Manthrox Sect.”

“Right, this was when your planet was in the middle of your tournament. He was likely too distracted to tell you about it. He aided one of our faction scions in cultivating the next stage of his Dao, which allowed for us to leave our home planet. After we left, we came here to join your faction. When Sam has awoken, we can discuss it further. For now, there are monsters to kill.”

The man jumped off the battlements, drawing a long katana from the middle of nowhere, most likely out of a storage device. The weapon crackled with power, and he raced across the ground towards the enemy lines. WIth a sigh, Eduardo and the rest of the captains followed suit, charging the Legion.

When they hit, it was with the force of a hurricane, and the monsters were pulverized, vaporized and generally destroyed by the barrage of high powered attacks that came their way. Still, there were millions of the monsters, and their efforts barely made a dent. The ships on the other hand cut through the enemy ranks with their attacks like they were made of air, and huge rents formed in their ranks. The monsters fired their guns up at the ships, but the blasts simply ricocheted off of the craft.

Meanwhile, the ships kept firing, the combined strength of so many of the vessels atomizing any monster that they touched. The Legion knew no fear however and all around the rest of the city, they started towards the walls, trying to get in before the defenders could muster an effective defense, However, the automatons were waiting there, and a few of the ships flew off to support them.

The millions of Legion members were gradually whittled down over time, and as Sam lay unconscious on the field, the battle was slowly being won. He had achieved the most pivotal part of it however, and his body was already almost healed from the levels that he had gained from killing Hugo Mar. However, the skill that had used was too powerful to be assuaged by mere levels, and he was still unconscious, recovering from the strain.

No monsters came near him, because any that did were quickly picked off by projectile fire. There was no time for anyone to rescue him, but he was safe for now. As the monsters died around him, Sam slumbered. Some time later he came to, surrounded by the corpses of the Legion members, He frowned as he saw ships hovering in the sky, and slowly got to his feet, his entire body aching. There were some notifications waiting for him and he quickly read them.

He smiled at the sudden power gain, which was to be expected for killing such a powerful enemy. As a result of this, there was a further notification beneath it. It was for a title, and Sam shook his head as he beheld it, trying to read it properly. He was still a little dazed from his struggles with his skill, and he decided to edit the formatting a bit to make it clearer. As a result, this was what he saw.
