In the South China Sea
Rodney Kane smiled grimly as he sped through the abyssal darkness of the deep sea, his host of new elemental powers allowing him to move faster amid the stygian blackness than he had ever thought possible. His power was curtailed by his retention of his mind and psyche, but he had still ascended beyond his wildest dreams. He knew that he at least approached the level of power of the other two faction heads, despite his lack of relative advantages.
His target, the Verdant Titan, the System’s representation of a guardian of the element of Life, waited for him amid the humid jungles of South East Asia. With his elemental connection elevated beyond anything known to other denizens of the planet, he could detect the presence of the Titans, abominations that they were. He had been saddened to find that the Titan representing Darkness was already dead, but that was alright. He could prove his power another way. His newfound power made him especially potent against elementals, and he was looking forwards to using it.
A few hours later, he had reached his target, sensing the hulk of twisting vines and flesh as it lumbered across the land close to the shore. He ascended from the water like a ghost, dripping with water and shadow. Wings of abyssal fury shot out from his black, flapping mightily as he crossed the sky. Excalibur gleamed as he moved, its tip the only thing not covered in liquid darkness on his form. The weapon had spirit, he had to give it that.
The Titan looked up from its travails with an expression of confusion upon its face.
“Who are you, ant? I know not your auric signature. You are not Sam Atlas, or the Overlord. What business do you have with a being far beyond you?”
Rather than answer with words, he answered with his actions. Pointing Excalibur forwards, he projected a lance of pure darkness forwards, tearing through space as it went. Tear after tear in the fabric of reality formed in its path, allowing it to dip into the darkness of space itself. A moment later it struck the Titan, having traveled thousands of miles in its journey of folded space.
To the Titan it had seemed like a bolt of lightning, crossing the mile or so of realspace in less than a fraction of a millisecond. The cloak of blackness that surrounded Rodney dissipated into the attack, the result of charging up his elemental reserves while under the water. It was not an attack that he could repeat again easily.
It struck home like a bomb, lancing through the Titan’s vine covered head and out the other side. The creature staggered, but its flesh was already repairing itself. Frowning, Rodney began to back away. It seemed that he needed more strength. Dipping back under the waves a few minutes later, he smiled. That would not be a problem.
Italy, two weeks later
Gaea lurked beneath the waves, feeding off the volcanic ocean that fueled Mount Etna. The sea bubbled for dozens of miles in every direction, and millions of broiled fish littered the surface. Sam looked down from the ship as they approached, his eyes cold and hard. Every last Titan, save for Gaea herself, had fallen. Most to his, and his allies’ hands, but three had died to the power of the Overlord, and surprisingly enough, Rodney Kane. The corpses of the Verdant Titan, the Clockwork Titan and the Hurricane Titan had been found, with the telltale marks of both men’s weapons upon them. The Overlord had killed the last two, while Kane had slain the first one.
Sam stood at level 147, at the cusp of E Rank. His companions all hovered in the mid 120s, with their strength having risen significantly. Lao had managed to gain a secondary Dao, and although it was still at Mote stage, it would be a Fragment within the next month at his current rate. Sam’s own advancement in that area was far slower, but he was getting closer and closer to the next rank of his Dao Seed. He also had over a thousand skill points, of which he had neglected for the last few months. His other powers had seemed more important. However, it was finally time to use them. Before that though, he opened his stat sheet.

With over two hundred stat points available, he was spoiled for choice. However, as he watched the waters of the Mediterranean bubble beneath him, he knew that he needed to be able to survive this more than anything else. With his Constitution lagging behind his other stats, perhaps it was finally time to upgrade it to its fullest potential.
