Chapter 164

A dark shadow was moving across the ground at incredible speeds, and it had the same silhouette as the wheel skeleton, only twice as large. Sam gave it one look, and bolted after giving the others a warning. They leaped out of the furrow in the ground as if the devil was on their tail, and started running towards the edge of the summoning circle. The monster was rapidly gaining on them, and the ground’s shaking kept increasing in intensity. They soon reached the edge of the circle, and suddenly found themselves running along verdant grass. The air was lighter, and it felt as if they had just exited a circle of hell.

Behind them the rumbling noise stopped, and they looked around to see that the skeletal wheel had paused at the edge of the circle, unable to come any closer. Looking at it, Sam did not feel despair, or even frustration, but yet another motivation to grow stronger. If these Titans that were to rise could be stopped, then he would be the one to do it. They had been sidetracked by the sight of the shrine and summoning circle, and it was time to embark on their real quest. To find the Seven Seals. Sam opened up the quest once more, and noticed that the section for the Invaders quest had been updated for the entire quest log.

In the time since the initialization started, there has been a curious absence of anyone who has been a soldier before the System arrived. This is because of the actions of one man. General Hugo Mar chanced upon the beginning of the path to the Dao of Legion. In doing so, he laid claim to every soldier to live on the planet through a unique form of Dao resonance, subsuming them into his hive mind. They now exist as the ultimate monster of your planet, a many headed monstrosity of fused will. This force lives only to spread itself, an anarchic terror of pure self propagation.

Ultimate Goal:Eradicate the Legion

Invaders from Beyond the Stars

Malefactors from other universes will seek to use your universe as a source of power. You must show them the error of that desire by forcing them off your planet. Some of the alien species will be benevolent, but most will be hostile. You have defeated one of the vanguard armies of the invasion effort, but that is only a drop in the ocean that is the full force. The stronger and larger armies are being stalled in transit so that it will be more of a fair fight, but they will be coming soon. Be warned, for the factions whom these armies belong to will set their eyes upon you. Whether that is a good thing or not is up to fate.

Ultimate Goal:Remove any threats from other universes.

Ultimate Goal:Complete all three quests.

Rewards:Planetary Dominance

Assuming that the closest of the Seals would be Excalibur, Sam crossed that off his list. Firstly, it was a longsword, and nobody here used that kind of sword. Secondly, he already had a good idea of who would be going after it. Rodney Kane. No, what Sam wanted was Mjolnir. It was a hammer, and as such could be wielded like a mace, and his aptitude for the weapon would allow him to wield this one well. In addition, Gungnir should be there as well, and if that worked out they would be able to get two powerful weapons from a single trip. The only problem was that Scandinavia was very far away, especially considering the fact that the world was larger now. They would need a plane or a very fast boat.

Sam explained all of this to his companions, and they set out to find a means of transportation. Before the arrival of the System, Sam had been living in the middle of Kentucky, and judging by the distance that he had traveled to reach the Dao Tree, they were probably in somewhere like Georgia right now. If they kept going east, then they would reach the sea, and hopefully find a way to cross it.

A day passed with no major incident, save for a few opportunistic flying monsters that had attempted to carry off Rax. Their corpses were lying on the ground far behind them, with massive bite marks marring their flesh. Rax’s teeth enhancements with his weapon made it so that each bite from his already powerful jaws was as if it had been performed by a shark. Sam still couldn’t help but smile at the thought of the relatively small herptopede tearing gigantic birds apart with his teeth. The System registered world was a very interesting place. As they crested a small hill, a large beacon of light piercing the sky came into view. Sam grinned. This might well be the answer to all of their problems. Pyotr frowned.

“What the hell is that? Another monster?”

“You’ll see,” Sam said as he started towards the beacon. “Trust me.”

Jeffrey smiled as he heard this. He was looking forward to exploring the various amenities of this town, Jeffrey style. It was only a matter of time until he was kicked out, but that was part of his lifestyle. Live dangerously, or not at all.
